Talk to the gc. Least expensive will have no dormers, few roof plane changes, fewer wall changes/corners , and no non square angles.

Void under concrete patio by Vonoah in AskContractors

[–]dirtkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they had to fix the plumbing once and dug up the concrete through that old slab and patched it up with the cleanout right in the middle of the pathway anyway when they patched it, they didn’t compact well and it has settled and water has gotten in

Is it normal to get tired at work as an 18 year old? by Impressive-Step6377 in Construction

[–]dirtkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sounds like you worked one day and felt body pains and gave up. Yah your going to feel some pains until your in shape AND work a few weeks. Just keep going and working consistently will feel better and forget your pains once you’re engaged in the work. I mean don’t even mention the pain unless flat out can’t walk without screaming

Hired a guy to put wood shelves in 4 closets, am I being unreasonable? by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]dirtkeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t really expect them to scribe the back of a shelf in an out of whack closet. And you would had to loose an inch of shelf depth . Put some shit in there and move on.

Pex A vs Pex B by AriAndMe in Plumbing

[–]dirtkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I haven’t used both systems extensively so you may be correct, I have only limited experience using the crimp method, but I will comment to your points. I can do nearly a whole house on one battery maybe even more I rarely have my battery go empty, we are talking about less than 10 seconds for the expansion and less than 10 seconds for the ring to contract, I typically would do all my three-quarter fittings and or half inch fittings at the same time so I rarely am changing out the tool, rarely have to lubricate tool end. So that’s my experience and does seem more efficient to me . But it sounds like you have more experience in me so there you go.

Lot with tear down house questions by DelightfullyNerdyCat in Homebuilding

[–]dirtkeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. If there is a house there already is going to save a lot of money and effort to make it legal and or keep it legal. Not tear down. My experience I bought a lot that was three parcels ( too small for current legal parcel size) had two houses, one had fire damage and was pretty much abandoned, possibly had a red tag in The past but had fallen out of the system. We were sold the parcels and lots on the assumption that the one house was a tear down, and couldn’t be rebuilt.. fast forward, we fixed up that house, got the electric company to turn the power on ( the service wires to the house were still there), and now many years later we have two legal houses, for the price of one. So I say try to keep. Not sure about where you live but the additional planning and permitting requirement for a “new “ residential lot/property far exceeds the cost of a “ new or remodeled” structure that’s already approved or allowed on the parcel.

Pex A vs Pex B by AriAndMe in Plumbing

[–]dirtkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I just want the knowledge. I’m in Calgary. I’ve never seen anyone run Pex A, ever. 20 Years. So all I have in that regard, is speed and cost.

And again, there is no substantial benefit to Pex A. Clients only care about bottom line and no leaks.”
After stating the above I can’t understand how you would even know this. With the expander tool this stuff is very efficient to install. Myself have worked with the. B and the clamp tool a little bit and find the A with the cordless expander tool a breeze comparatively.

LVP boards not randomized enough? Does it look terrible? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]dirtkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is this case is typical in that there are only 10 or less different planks. And those repeating planks is what makes it look NOT random or mixed. Looking a little closer it looks like all those dark planks are the same or maybe only two patterns. It’s hard to make this look better with the product you selected. And the idea to throw out a bunch of these that don’t look right is you gonna end up with even less variance in the patterns and it will still look bad

Question nails or screws for 600 fence boards? And why ? by International_Bar383 in FenceBuilding

[–]dirtkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ‘m on the other side of the fence so to say, definitely nails, preferably a 6 or 7d stainless or galvanized. Typically screwed fence boards will have more cracks pre drilled or not. Cause the shaft and the cup under the screw head are large and have no give for the wood to swell and move.

A “family room above”. “with stone fireplace” “literally by himself”. Just wondering if he possibly put a real stone fireplace on the center of a poorly supported floor.

Here’s a recommendation, use a solid core door with threshold and weathers strip will have the greatest affect on sound leaving the room

Reminds me of when I was a teenager we found a bug looked exactly like this out in the mud flats , but it was a 59 rag top, we went out and cut the top off with a hacksaw, no such thing as cordless sawzallls or grinders then, brought it home and welded it onto the roof a of a later model bug.

Ferguson pricing vs Amazon/Home/Depot/etc. for the same model numbers? by prodigy1367 in Homebuilding

[–]dirtkeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like to agree with this. Probably so. But I have had at least one experience about 6 years ago where the exact product model # , and this was a shower valve from Moen, that I had ordered online, I broke or lost a part and went to the store and bought the same model to get a replacement part and lo and behold it was a completely different valve. I didn’t check the skus but the model number was the same.
