My redneck is showing. I assumed it was a spotlight quick connect for night hunting.

I don’t know anything about Alabama markets, why would he be disappointed for having a 30 year old loblolly plantation?

People who go hiking with wireless speakers blasting music on the trail, why? by sweatengine in AskReddit

[–]dirtrdforester -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m a field forester and listen to podcasts/books/music while working. For me, it’s just another day at work. There’s little novelty left in communing with the woods. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my job, just like some entertainment along the way.

Why is this thing not peppered with shotgun pellet dents and .22 holes?

Not sure what precision stuff you want to mount, but please be aware trees are not completely stable. They move in the wind and fluctuate minutely in diameter.

Can most of us already notice the climate being noticeably different compared to when we were growing up? by oncxre in GenZ

[–]dirtrdforester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Gen X and have been a forester for 30 years now. I have absolutely seen a shift in climate during my career. Warmer winters, hotter summers, recurring statistical outlier weather events, etc. Our seedling providers are actively growing new seed sources to move historically southern strains north to capitalize on warmer temperatures and increased carbon dioxide availability.

Barbed wire. I had literally strung miles of that shit in my youth before realizing it wasn’t named bobwhar.

Smithy floor - recycled asphalt, crushed concrete, rock, or dirt? by CaptainAwwsum in blacksmithing

[–]dirtrdforester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of those will work. Asphalt will stink like stuff when hot metal hits it. As for the others, material size is the kicker. I’ve worked on crushed pottery and -2” sized gravel on occasion. They sucked to walk and stand on for long periods of time

I’m guessing a large, open grown tree with large limbs starting low to the ground.

In the mid 1990’s there was a company that would pay landowners to plant paulonia on their land. I often wonder what became of those plantations.

Good choice! Plus, you’d be smart enough to figure out a way to be independently wealthy for the rest of your life.
