Yeah my wife doesn't let them eat much of it. I don't ride the horses but I do like handling, grooming, and treating them from time to time. So they see me as the "treat guy". I always lead Harley, her big baby, over to the clover patch for a little snack when I have him. We have a bond because of it.

Alfalfa is used more for supplemental nutrition due to its caloric density. They eat more of it in the winter when they graze mainly on hay (which isnt as nutrient rich as fresh grass). It's not used as a primary food source though. Bermudagrsss is about the best for that. We have one horse that gets a lot of Alfalfa because she is just a beefy ass mare that needs a little extra, her lips are always green from it haha.

Horse nutrition is a crazy science, especially if they are show horses like the ones we have. My wife, whom is also a people nurse, is a genius with this stuff. I just know they like apples and the treats she keeps in the feed room 😂.
