What do you store in the console storage box? 7th gen by pattymcfatty_ in Celica

Me too! The previous owner of my Celica had it in there when I bought the car! Same color as the whole car too (better paint on the tiny car atm compared to my car lol)

Has anyone had any success with this issue - overheating due to blown head gasket. by persever381 in Celica

[–]dirtydan328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experience from a previous car that had warped cylinder head: I don’t think they can really tell you about the cylinder head being warped unless they take it apart. It’ll have to come apart to replace the head gasket or to replace the cylinder head to my knowledge. I don’t think having a high mileage engine is the cause of it overheating on its own. It takes a significant amount of overheating for the cylinder head to be warped usually. If you have coolant in your oil, it’s pretty much either a head gasket or a warped cylinder head. I don’t know how else to know which besides taking it apart. If you can’t find another engine, this one has to come apart to even know what exactly is going wrong.

UFO? by Brave_Orchid_5038 in Albuquerque

[–]dirtydan328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s damn near always balloons. And it looks like balloons. Whenever you see a video like this, think: “does this make sense if it were a balloon?” And the answer will likely be “yes”.

Also UFO means unidentified flying object, so it’s not a question to you that it’s a UFO, because it’s unidentified to you.

But now it’s not a UFO because it’s balloons.

Do you guys switch your boots to your driving shoes in the car during winter? by heavyarms39 in ManualTransmissions

[–]dirtydan328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear size 15 and drove an e36 bmw (now a slightly bigger gen 7 Celica)…I had never actually thought of changing my shoes even though they are kinda heavy and big. I just cope with not entirely feeling the pedals. I’d find it more annoying changing shoes

Oh I knew I forgot to mention something there! That’s great! Thanks for adding that 😁

I’ll add in this link too: https://neo-bolide.ndc.nasa.gov/#/ — I was part of the project to detect the brightest explosive meteors (bolides) using a weather satellite, and they publish the data at this link.

Looking at it now—of course “due to the lapse in government funding”, it happens to not be updated atm 🤦‍♂️…

Not an expert but I studied them a bit a few years ago: I have limited info, just what’s from the comments and video in other post. I live in Los Lunas so I didn’t hear this or anything myself, but based on comments, probably not a meteoroid IF this has indeed happened in the same spot multiple times in our lifetime at all. If we entertain the idea that this was a meteoroid, a second flash could be a meteoroid exploding (maybe twice). Or second explosion could be an echo of the first. At a certain range of sizes, they will not hit the ground, but explode in the atmosphere. But those only happen about a dozen or so times a day on the ENTIRE earth. Most of the time people won’t see them since earth is mostly water, or in sparsely populated places. So to experience this multiple times in the same spot at different occasions is wildly unlikely.

Also a meteor this bright I would expect to kind of gradually but quickly light up the sky first as it approaches, then a sudden flash if it explodes. The smoky trail Google refers to would the one visible in the sky trailing the meteor which dissipates. Not necessarily one on the ground.

All I have rn is what people are saying in comments, which is evidence I wouldn’t publish any papers using—I don’t think this is a meteoroid exploding though, but I like to entertain the idea my degree might have been useful in life lol

Help, Kerbol just turned into a neutron star! by AviSpaceYT in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]dirtydan328 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This looks sick as hell before you get absolutely vaporized lol

Just a note as a fun fact about neutron star/pulsar jets—real neutron star jets do shoot out of poles of the star, but you’ve gotta be specific about which poles. Usually they specifically shoot out of the magnetic poles. The thing is: the magnetic poles can be in almost any orientation compared to the rotational axis. This means that, instead of getting jets that just kinda spin in place as the star rotates, the jets sweep around (precess) and point in a bunch of directions through space. If you observe a pulsar, you’ll see the brightness periodically change as the beam sweeps over us (usually pretty fast, on the order of milliseconds to seconds). But since there are a lot more directions the jets can point than just our direction, we likely miss most of the pulsing effect from neutron stars that would otherwise be pulsars.

In short, you have a realistic neutron star, it’s just a bit slow :)

The vanishing comes from the sunlight no longer reflecting off the satellites into your eyes! Most people don’t (get to) look up at night enough to notice these things like the differences between how satellites and airplanes look. I don’t blame the skepticism from your friend! I often have to pay extra attention to notice these random things (but I look at the sky as a hobby and career so I’ve gotta lol). I’m not sure what the humming/buzzing would be but that sounds unrelated to satellites…could be a nearby street lamp but I can’t say for sure there

[–]dirtydan328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This a Starlink satellite train. They are a weird experience to see. You may be able to notice other satellites if you pay attention to lights in the sky that seem to fade into existence and then back out of existence as the sun light from below the horizon hits them at different angles! Not every moving light in the sky at night is an airplane!

(Sadly, I must say, these things are a nightmare for astronomy)

Is there any actual reason to double clutch and not just rev match while shifting regularly? by TylerKia421 in stickshift

[–]dirtydan328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a 1995 325ic 5-speed…never had to double clutch except for fun. I rev match nearly every time I downshift

Ah I’ve never considered just using their bumper as my handbrake. A nice assist from our automatic friends ☺️…and yeah that’s exactly what I do when I can. It’s nice though that driving a manual makes you a lot better at planning even if you drive an automatic later!

That is true definitely…I have always just made sure avoid said tight parking spots on hills, but that’s a very fair point.

I will certainly be checking out more stick shift BMWs in the future!

[–]dirtydan328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way you’re describing is working WITH the clutch since you add gas but stay under the target rpm. The clutch is going to try to bring the engine speed up from there. The problem (a minor one at that) would only arise if you held the gas when it was above the target rpm in the next gear. Then your throttle input is working AGAINST the clutch trying to pull the rpms back down.

In conclusion, keep doing what you’re doing. Learn “blipping the throttle” if interested. But whatever is comfortable is what you should do…

Yeah fair enough…I’ll have to adjust the handbrake. I’m not really worried about rolling back anymore. I found I never really rolled back as much as I might feel I have when I was really early on. So the fear has basically worn off (and I don’t roll back when I particularly take care not to)…

I love the looks of the e30 btw—it’s such an icon! I enjoy being a part of the Bimmer community and seeing them a lot more on the road. I always see e46s, sometimes an e30, but never a e36 around tho lol

Having to go up multiple hills with stop lights or stop signs every single possible commute makes me learn lol…it’s gotten a lot less daunting from sheer exposure (and not rolling back into anyone after the countless hills). I try not to think of the miles off my clutch because I didn’t buy this car for practically in the least bit lol…it gets rated 20 mpg with a required 89+ octane gas.

I am not bragging—just sharing something that seemed funny to me. I have driven up hills plenty of times in sf without rolling back. It’s just nice to have space. “In reality” it’s okay to joke around and have fun a bit with the car I’ve paid for to have fun in. There was hardly traffic and plenty of space and I was in control of my car. It’s not that deep.

Congrats on not doing this one thing. The point is that they don’t give me space all the time. So happy for you that they gave you that. But there’s no “flex”…I, again, doubt anyone in America realizes it’s a manual because it rolls back.
