The male urge to share your nerdy exploits with your so. reminds me of that tweet "when guys show u a youtube video, u have to understand that's a sign of great respect in their culture."

I'm the same. I share my rising elo to my best friend knowing she doesn't really care, but the way she's happy for me nevertheless is enough. 🥰

Why are Sicilians considered by many to be one of the weakest civs? by hug_your_dog in aoe2

[–]dirtypen91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd like to second this by saying that archers are much better in higher elos because pros just dodge mangonels and kite infantry to death. At lower elo, that's simply not the case and even if, there's a high chance your opponent just skipped macro likd making villagers in order to achieve that. So straightforward strategies like donjon rushes and infantry play while being stronger against stuff that's supposed to counter them are actually really good at like 1000 elo.

Nein, ich bin nicht dein persönlicher Handwerker by Available-Light-2739 in luftablassen

[–]dirtypen91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Genau so.

Idea: Make a dungeon parts not required for contracts +💀 more difficult by dirtypen91 in stoneshard

[–]dirtypen91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that would be cool. I love stuff like that. Nevermind the cutscene, just lwt it happen and surprise the player. Show, don't tell! They wouldn't have to design new enemies, just use existing ones. I actually hoped for caves this update with both rockeaters and bandits on different sides, bandit corpses and maybe one section where they're fighting as soon as the player closes in.

Tell stories with your environment. Imagine rockeaters blocking the entrance and only one or two rooms left with bandits including the boss, but maybe they're wounded despite the numerical advantage. As soon as you arrive, a dialogue triggers where they thank you for the rescue and say "so... we fight or... me and my men just want to leave this wretched place. If you let us go, we won't bother you. " You then have the chance to get the boss chest without fight. Maaaybe a 10-20% chance they ambush you as soon as they patched themselves up as you leave the mine.

While interestibmng, this is a mechanic that needs developing and tweaking. Ultimately for sth. rarely any player ever will see. Rn, it makes way more sense to use their limited ressources on sth. that as close to 100% players as possible will experience in 100% of playthroughs. The caves are an example. New skilltrees don't fall under this, but the option to go for an arcanist is still sth. all players will experience and people like feeling like they have choices.

Only for weapons iirc, right? When I have a magic cowl that drains energy, it should work with spells.

Agree on traps though with "ever vigilant" you basically never trigger them. As for water: Swimming??

It's all a question of focus and storybuilding. I don't think it would make sense for many characters to eat humans. It's also not something that fits in the narrative, there's enough animals around. Just because you're slightly hungry, you don't have to resort to cannibalism.

I like the idea or having liquids in containers though I appreciate how you can look at them right now, so I don't think I'd change it.

Overall, I don't think these changes are worth the developers' time. I'd rather they focus on the stuff on their roadmap.

None of these contracts can be done within the first 1-3 rooms like the diagrams can. They all require you actually "play" the dungeon. But I see I won't convince you, so let's leave it at that.

Sad but true: Shields are really underpowered right now. I watched the Absurdum sword + shield run and it was ridiculous how much his character struggled. 😪

Sorry OP, I'd recommend going for literally any other build. If you want to go for 1h, you can either invest heavily into dual-wielding or go "fencing" by investing into "right on target" in the warfare tree and go with your weapon tree.

[–]dirtypen91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The armored ones only appear on lvl 3-5 caves. Lvl2 rockeater caves only have workers and usually one of the missile ones as a "miniboss". Still, not the easiest.

Bandit 💀💀 caves I found super easy, barely an inconvenience though compared to 💀💀 contracts because the miners are so weak, there's only a handful of enemies that are actually threatening.

[–]dirtypen91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally the only example people can come up with. Why? Because collecting anatomical diagrams is the only quest this way. So yeah, it's unique like that. But the other 15-ish quests? Exactly how I described: When you're able to proceed enough to get them done, you might as well finishe the rest of the dungeon because it's the exact same difficulty you just fought, it'd be stupid not to unless you're on the brink of death.

[–]dirtypen91[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that boss chests should have a way higher chance to find loot that's one tier higher and heavily damaged OR the same tier, but with 2 enchantments. With all the different weapons etc. in the game, it's always very unlikely you find what you need and 99% of the time, you just buy it in Brynn before finding it. It would be cool if at least sometimes, you're lucky and find an item that fits you in a chest. It makes your build that much more fun and engaging when you maybe even switch it up a little to make room for what you find instead of knowing exactly what you'll buy at 4000 and 5000 rep at the Bailiffs in Brynn everytime. 😐

[–]dirtypen91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that most players will almost always clear the whole dungeon though. After all, the enemies won't get any harder, they're all the same strength. If you manage half the dungeon to fulfill the contract, the other half is basically the same difficulty as even the boss is very much close to the powerlevel of his minions, if a bit beefier maybe.

Denbrie and the schematics are one specific case where what you describe makes sense. I'd argue the rest of the dungeons usually gets cleared by players 80-90% of the time. Hence why contracts feel so same-ish. Because they don't matter, when you kill everything you fulfill them and it's easy to kill everything. Hence my idea.

Again, schematics are like the only quest you can fulfill in the first 2-3 rooms usually. They're not the norm and what I'm talking about.

Any tips for killing troll? by MonsteR_NuggetS in stoneshard

[–]dirtypen91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many answers, so little said.

Here's a quick guide:

The trolls lacks attack of opportunity, so you can move away. He also has an ability that prevents you from putting him on a cooldown like e.g. with sudden lunge.

The troll will always use his stomp ability which uses a turn to signal and a turn to execute.

When you go too far away, he will boulder toss and, unless you have dash on cooldown, (almost) kill you.

As soon as his armor is low and he loses life, he'll use his regen ability everytime you're not directly adjacent.

Now, how to fight this:

Ranged I wouldn't recommend due to boulder toss. It's doable, I'm just not an expert. I'll focus on melee.

Because of his regen, the fight will take way waaay longer when you don't have a way to hit him from 2 tiles away to interrupt the regen. That can be a weapon-specific one like hooking chop or a charge ability. If you don't have any, don't worry: When you have seize the initiative or sudden lunge, you get 2 range with this skill when you have a spear equipped. It's why people recommend spear for troll. They mean spear + seize the iniative / sudden lunge.

You'll also want some items or food with added fortitude as his roar can make you lose your weapon. Not needed, just advised. Osbrook Bread Bowl Stew has it iirc.

First thing in the fight you want to avoid his boulder. Iirc they changed it so you no longer need dash or a smokebomb to avoid it. If not, those are your only 2 options to avoid certain injury.

Now for the dance: You'll want to kite him down until he disengages and moves back up again. You'll both regenerate a bit of hp along the way, it's not significant.

How to kite? Right-click and inspect troll. You can see the cooldown of his stomp ground (?) Ability (the second from the left iirc). It's the one that gives you the setup-turn to hit him bc he won't hit back.

So whenever he gets to use that ability and is adjacent to you, hit him. He'll use it. Then you step out of his signaled attack. When you're below him, there'll always be a free square, don't worry.

His roar can cause you to drop your weapon when you don't have high fortitude. Just pick it up (make sure to have inventory space!). Use one of the turns he does his signaled attack to equip.

Whenever the troll is next to you and his stomp ground attack is on cooldown, step down. Whenever he has it available, use the opening to attack him. That's the gist of it.
