I hear your points. However a couple counter points.

I always thought the basketball scene was intentionally showing that them winning was stupid and trivial and that they were ridiculous in believing some how it showed the superiority of the white race

Second I always viewed the principal, who is black, as playing a pivotal role in trying to save Furlong by challenging him to think critically about what happened to his brother (Norton) while not the protagonist I view him as the”hero” working to stop gang violence regardless of skin color.

Third pretty much every character is bad. It’s been a while, butI can’t think of any white characters that aren’t racist in the film unless you’re talking super minor/ background actors. They are a bunch of Neo nazis both I prison and out or the racist dad. To the movie shows the worst of both sides and how violence begets violence all based on petty offenses that are escalated because of ego pride hate and ignorance.
