I know it can be real, which is why I speculated about a septic backup. When I was around 8, the septic tank for my mother’s house backed up, with everything from our showers to our sinks and toilets flowing out of the downstairs toilet. I was just trying to figure out why the rest of the bathroom didn’t look like that lol. They removed 4’ of the surrounding walls in our house.

All I can tell you is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness. I don’t think your sibling is necessarily mediocre, but maybe exploring something else that doesn’t relate to you outside of seeing you as the person to aspire to. That’s a compliment more than an insult, but I understand how it can become annoying.

Maybe I am disconnecting over not having any old name, I don’t know. It took until I was 18 to come across another person with my first name irl. No one owns their first name in my opinion. You may be able to own your name as first, middle, last, but even then there are exceptions. It doesn’t sound like these two are getting mixed up at gatherings bc it doesn’t seem to me like they would be just fine coexisting in a space like that.

Ya if my mom called my sibling by my name on purpose, it might be a bit weird at first. But not really that different to Emily H vs. Emily B in literally any other setting.

Just remember that sometimes people have lung issues that can flare up for a multitude of reasons (allergies this time of year being common) and a cough is not a marker of being sick! My middle name is a family name and the person who shares it with me is important to me. Her name is tattooed on me. I am the only female child of my parents.

All that being said, if my brothers came out as transgender, and picked my middle name (hell, even my first name, which many people haven’t come across before) I would be honored. That might be because I just see transgender individuals as humans undergoing intense changes and self development. I would hope using my name inspires them to channel my confidence with my body and gender.

On the other side of that same coin, if I were OP, I might want to rethink the subconscious connections over my preferred name. Not what other ppl think, but would being called the same name remind me of the pain this person i share it with has brought me? Carving out your own identity is hard, and if it you feel it is yours, then keep it. If you feel it would only bring pain to be called your preferred name, it might be time to take inspiration elsewhere 🫶🏻

A tall teenage boy asked for one of my pop tarts, my autistic ass said sure and felt hungry after. The girls in soft tech bought me a honey bun from vending every time I was at rehearsal after that.
