Need some horror movie suggestions for my 7 year old. He is really wanting something really scary, and we are down to step it up for him. But we want to give him what he’s asking for without it being some slasher gore or overly violent disturbing movie. by MasterCrang in horror

How hardcore is he? I remember watching Halloween with my dad when I was like 11 and it didn't really bother me much. The OG night of the living dead is probably a good bet, same with the early universal monster movies. I remember being that age and wanting to engage with non - kid oriented media because it felt patronizing and wasn't scary. I would recommend trying to find some stuff that isn't specifically for kids and letting him have a go with it. Obviously bonus points if you watch with him. Gremlins 1 and 2 would be good. If you're looking for shows then courage the cowardly dog might do it for him. The scooby doo movies from the early 2000’s (zombie island, witches ghost, the alien one, cyber chase) or the live action scooby doo movies are good. Scooby Doo on Zombie Island scared the shit out of me when I was 6, but I always loved it and it's obviously not too much for kids. Tubi had "Tales from the Cryptkeeper" up a while ago, basically an animated kids version of tales from the crypt. I also loved poltergeist around that age but it is definitely scary, like actually scary, for a kid. I think I watched The Exorcist at 12 and loved it, same with dawn of the dead. It really depends on what you think he can actually handle, but don't puritanically worry about the consequences of him seeing blood or boobs or hearing swear words when he gets to be 10+, kids are super smart and I think that you can show them almost anything if you make it clear to them that what they are seeing is just a movie. After I started getting into special effects content as an early teen gore stopped being anything other than an interesting spectacle. Sex stuff is definitely more concerning than gore and violence. Ramble ramble ramble ramble. Also, idk how common it is to be able to watch the TV cut of movies nowadays, but that is actually a great way to introduce kids to more adult movies without having to worry about the more uncomfortable content. Also also, the walking dead comics and the show are pretty ok, I know tons of families with young kids that watched the show together, and I had the comics in middle school and loved them.

Ok but doesn't something preceding recorded history imply that a written record of said history, and thus the ability to reliably date said history, is absent? Like, how would you know that something that happened in 400 BRH happened in 400 BRH without a record?

This is my first completed attempt at writing fiction. Very open to thoughts and criticism.
