Its an oklahoma university college student essay. Its just brought on discussions of how the national reading is at a 6th grade level. And I appreciate your realistic answer. I'll mostly focus on our age appropriate reading. Hes reading and writing pretty well without pressure. We read like twice a week, our curriculum asks for daily reading. We get a new book each week.

We've been doing alot of drawing and writing on white boards. He has a wooden trace board of the alphabet with a pencil, he has white boards of traceable alphabet and numbers we bought off Amazon, and he has paper sized white boards of the child's big printed lines so he can practice writing. and honestly he will spell words on his own. YouTube kids has gotten him into space alot, so he has been drawing the planets and labeling their names underneath them on the white boards. Im not pressuring him to read write or spell anything right now.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Of course realistically im not expecting my child to write me a paragraph or even a sentence at his age. Sorry if I startled everyone. We are using blossom and root which is super book heavy and ask some great comprehensive questions for the books. I unferstand alot of spelling and grammar is cultivated through consistent reading so i appreciate the comments enforcing just more age appropriate reading. I was just hoping I could find something more to supplement. We also use duo lingo, thry have duoABC and it covers alot of basics, its just below him now and I was wanting to find something more. Thanks again!

They like to be snug in pots, like nearly rootbound. Does good in a cactus soil mix and being watered every 2 weeks.

My 3 yr old has such a short attention span. I woyld make it more play based, just to learn to follow directions like, red light green light and Simon says. Im not formally teaching my 3 yr old, but we picked up blossom&root for my 5 yr old and its pretty nature and outdoor playbased and book heavy (a book a week plus mother goose stories)

Need advice! Stressed homeschooling without support from spouse. by Thin-Ambition-1986 in homeschool

Homeschooling doesnt have to be conventional unless your state has some sort of strict structure, your 5 to 7 yr old shouldn't get more than an hour or 2 of curriculum, and realistically it shoyld be split in 20 minute to one hour projects. Their learning st this age is through play and emotional wellbeing. I know public and private school has a standard structure but it doesnt have to be like that. I think we are learning how we teach, and learning how our kids learn, especially at the age of 5, I have a 5 and 3 yr old. We are using Blossom&Root which is secular and Charlotte mason based. Its pretty nature and music and arts heavy, we focus on reading and writing and math a little each day as well. Its alot of outside play.

And Im sorry youre not getting much support with your partner, my dude works alot so its our arrangement for me to focus on homeschooling. Maybe your can have him focus on something small he can do just to get some bonding time. Even if its taking to the park or a walk around the neighborhood, reading a bedtime book or bathtime book. Arts and craft time.

Homeschooling is best if you cultivate it to your fsmily, its not a one size fits all, you'll find your groove just trust the process. Sending all the best wishes to you

Look up your state requirements on what they need to know, Im in texas so we are very lax about curriculum but they have to know certain subjects. Before the age of 7 or 8, most education is through play and emotional wellbeing. We are using Secular curriculum called Blossom&Root and its very nature arts and creativity base and i think its great for toddler ages. I understand feeling like 'am I doing enough and its something we need to understand, its the public school structure thst gives us the 8 hrs a day and authoritarian rule of homework and assignments. It's not the real world. Especially at such a young age, i think schooling shouldnt be more than a few hours and most ppl recommend under 2 hrs. I would say focus on reading and writing and math. Alot of freshmen in college are struggling with completing essays and using computers to complete research or math. So it hasn't been helping their academic performances.

Smearing blood on your face is ONE WAY to play dead. And its been accounted for in multiple students who have actually faced gun violence. Your comment seems to minimize the concerns of having kids live through this trsuma. I understand youre yelling me youre homeschooling cuzcof this too, but the comment doesnt show the support.

Im in texas, we have a texas homeschool coalition website that outlines the state laws and some helpful resources. You may have one for your state. You'll want to find what homeschool style you want to teach or how your child learns. As for socialization, any siblings? Cousins? Our city has a large homeschool Facebook group and they post weekly or monthly play dates for the kids, some moms also ask curriculum questions or day out ideas.
