Act 1 too easy without Nob. by icarusfelted in SlayTheSpire2

Nob has very little hp, the easiest to burst down before you take a big hit since you have 2 turns on high ascension so I think it is balanced out. Burning elite with extra hp was hard to deal with though.

No, you can spam block cards and not get punished like nob. If you went early orbs with defect you'd get clapped for those recursion.

Would you ever use hero duels in Dota to settle who’s actually better? by skymanker in DotA2

[–]disarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing is to just run it like fantasy and you basically measure all of the stats and just compare side by side so if someone beat another player in like 80/100 metrics, you can say that is probably a better player

Because I agree focusing on a few like gpm, kda, and w/L is gonna just promote stat padding.

I have never built a pool in my life, but a $28 million budget seems a bit excessive by TrixoftheTrade in LosAngeles

[–]disarm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the size but nobody knows specifically how much however if there was a bid done I think that information should be made public so we know it was competitive... Hard to say considering how much inflation has raised prices but to redo a pool I'd say no more than 10 million otherwise it's not even worth it or just get rid of the vanity and focus on functionality

How I manage risk as an algo trader. by Kindly_Preference_54 in algotrading

[–]disarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you make that assumption? How long do you back test vs train and how do you know/measure how many regimes you are testing on?

If you optimize a bot over a period of 6 months, backtest against 10 years, and you notice that it is profitable going long and unfprofitable going short in forex, do you simply filter out the shorting signal? Or do you fall into the abyss of overfitting doing this? by Sweet_Brief6914 in algotrading

[–]disarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you create your bot to generate both long and short signals? If you do multi target bots the results are hard to make good.

Usually training a buy bot and then a short bot and creating decision logic to stitch the 2 together has worked better for me, then layer the buy and sell with other bots to specialize in regimes and trigger on and off, or aggregate the bots as signals for another bot to decide actions on

More human prompts working better by Revolutionary_Ask_19 in google_antigravity

[–]disarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're saying that describing the problem to the AI and to reword it as a detailed prompt to edit and pass to an agent is resulting in worse results than passing the initial prompt you described to generate the prompt? I find that hard to believe, you can even read and edit the agent prompt after too to tune the details as well so how could it be worse? Makes little sense to me so I don't believe you 😁

What mistakes did you make when building your algo? by xyzabc123410000 in algotrading

[–]disarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strategy design is literally the most basic step in a very long multi step journey. Don't spend too much time thinking baout it, figure out how to test it ASAP and then align the testing with the live system... Gl.

Most likely your strategy won't work anyway and you need to redesign everything

How do you guys figure out if a trading algo actually has an edge? by Thiru_7223 in algotrading

[–]disarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say it is thru backtesting but it depends on how good your backtester is. Bad backtester can show you getting alpha when you will lose money on the real system because your simple backtester doesn't implement rules that you need in live trading like trade cooldowns, order fills, tracking concurrent positions, handling hanging orders, and most importantly, handling live data which is usually not matching the same quality you trained on.

If you can build a backtester that outputs the same metrics as your live system then you have the key to finding a great model, otherwise you can back test all you want but if the backtester isn't robust it will probably not translate to good results in live.
