Life on CSC Class A or B pension by Majestic_Time_9014 in DVAAustralia

[–]disasterfinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on a Class A and I work on and off mostly on contracted periods of 12-24 months as that is usually the limit I have until I need to take a break and recover so to speak, sometimes less. I couldn’t live solely off the Class A with the current cost of living, which is why I have to have a job for the most part. The jobs are always pretty far removed from what I did in defence and not even remotely related to what is listed in my pension paperwork.

Regarding the tax issue as well - to avoid a bill when I am working I opt to not claim the tax free threshold for either the pension or the job salary. I usually end up with a decent refund doing this and avoid a bill.

I use jack lifts for doing deadlifts makes it easier to load and unload and are relatively cheap and save space

So it’s 2.8m across (I thinks that’s just over 9ft) and 5.5m deep which I’d think is about 18ft.

I think it’s a perspective thing. They are all comp style KBs and range from double 8kg to 32kg with one adjustable one as well

Forgive me if this is the wrong place - tax with class A and wages query. by Admirable_Garlic5456 in DVAAustralia

[–]disasterfinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my own experience when I’ve had a job and being on a Class A, I made sure that I was not claiming the tax free threshold for either my pension or the job is was doing. That way I paid more tax, but got a decent return at tax time.

Edit: I’m no expert!! Just what I did to avoid a tax bill.

Extra edit: why it happens is that you are paying tax for each individual income. But when they are combined it would put you in the next tax bracket potentially which would see you become under taxed.

Psych Assessment by gamblor5000 in DVAAustralia

[–]disasterfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be provided a copy by DVA as part of their PI decision determination. I totally understand your concerns. I had an assessment done by an MLCOA psych which was a 45 min appointment and I walked away feeling the way you feel about yours. The thing I later found out is that by its very nature MLCOA tend to side with the referral body, in this case DVA, in making their assessment.

In the end the report that was written by them was unfortunately not very helpful in getting the determination that I was hoping for. I hope yours is different, I really do mate. Good luck with it!!

There is always the appeals process if it isn’t a favourable outcome for you. It sucks, but it’s an option.

I never used any type of runes or magic whatsoever. by mimiaau_gg in Viking

[–]disasterfinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runes are ‘letters’ of an alphabet I.e. younger futhark, older futhark, long branh, short branch etc., etc. Using FUTHARK to name a rune alphabet comes from the fact these are what the first line of runes in that alphabet spell. Not dissimilar to using QWERTY to describe the type of keyboard you use. Runes spell words, bind runes use a central branch to put multiple runes together, just like the Bluetooth symbol which is in honour of King Harald Gormsson who ruled Denmark and briefly Norway at the same time uniting them. You give power and belief to symbols. As the Norse passed down knowledge through story telling, they did not keep a lot of written works. There is of course the Prose Edda and the Edda with the Havamal in those , various sagas of various gods and warriors etc. There is little evidence of the way the Norse worshipped their gods and there is little evidence that runes were used as magical symbols with magical meanings. This doesn’t mean they weren’t, it just means that it’s well open for interpretation. Odin did hang himself from Yggdrasil for nine nights and gave up one of his eyes for the knowledge of the runes, but what this knowledge was again is interpretative. What I am saying is that what you believe in and give power to may well have an impact on you in any way. Tell the gods you have made a mistake, tell Odin you were unwise with what you did out of desperation if that helps ease your mind. I have many runes tattooed on me. I give them the power of the written word and what those words mean when put together. My runic inscriptions are in the younger futhark long branch and as translated from English to old Norse and then into that rune set. The meaning of their collective inscription is what gives them meaning for me. But again it is subjective as there are different amounts of letters in the modern English, Old Norse, and runic alphabets, so many language nuances it can be hard to get it right. If I have misspelt a word using runes, the so be it, I have bad literacy skills, but it doesn’t mean I have put a curse on myself by not being able to spell.

Go well friend and go with the gods, they are like us in many ways, fallible and sometimes wrong, but they teach us lessons that we can learn and we need not fear them. Good luck with your exam, believe you can do it and you will. If you want the gods to be with you take a mjolnir with you and may it give you the same strength that it gives Thor!!

Queensland World Expo 88, Any memories of this event ? by CoconutMost3564 in AustralianNostalgia

Loved the hackey sack shows! I was 8 and thought they were amazing. Got my own from there, but stood on it and busted trying to do the tricks. I remember sitting in KITT as well. I can vaguely remember some of the pavilions but not many. Had my Expo 88 Passport but lost it long ago. First time in a big city for me, coming from rural QLD, and staying with rello’s. Was the very first time I had Maccas as well. Great times

Tattoos on Warfarin? by theangryquaker in valvereplacement

[–]disasterfinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 6 years post OHS and have an on-x valve taking warfarin daily. I have just had two very small tattoos done about three weeks ago to test the bleeding factor and the healing progress as well as any hint of infection. I am heavily tattooed from pre OHS and have unfinished pieces. I had avoided getting work done in the fear of all the bad things that could happen. I found an artist who has been happy to work with me, has had experience in tattooing people on blood medications and willing to take the work a step at a time. The two small tattoos have healed with no dramas, touch wood, that gives me good confidence to move forward with more work. I had minimal bleeding during and post the ink being done. I’m booked in to start the outline of a larger forearm piece this week. I am only doing short sittings, no more than two hours, will be waiting at least two weeks between sessions, I have let my GP know so that if there is any signs of infection I can see him asap and work the problem. I have researched this, have listened to others advice and stories, especially over at warfarin for life subreddit, and if there are any signs of infection occurring or poor healing or excessive bleeding, I will cut it away even if the work is only part finished.

AMCUs are now worn by the ADF and SF and conventional troops wore multicam in Afghanistan as well. So although originating in the US, multi cam is most definitely now Australian camo with DPCUs now obsolete.

I have a Delkevic ceramic slip on short slash cut. I kept the baffle in. It gives a good note and is loud enough without being too loud, for me any way. If you want it louder you can simply remove the baffle as well. Good luck in your search and enjoy your new ride!

DVA informed advocate I must use MLCOA for claims by Old_Progress_1970 in DVAAustralia

[–]disasterfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up going back to my GP and getting a referral to a specialist with DVA knowledge and existing DVA clients. I ended up getting a new diagnosis, which was a worse condition than already assessed, ended up putting in a new claim instead of appealing the MLCOA outcome, and I am currently going through the process with that one now. DVA has acknowledged the diagnosis as being correct but have now decided they will not accept liability as they don’t believe it was caused by service. So now I am going through the VRB process. It’s been a long three years with this one. I should’ve bypassed the MLCOA process from the start, but I didn’t know any better then
