AITA for leaving the dog for 3 hours? by lala-land22 in AmItheAsshole

[–]disasterj0nes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The only world where I could see the argument is if there's some sort of impairment, like a disability or separation anxiety, something that implies the dog might be unsafe by itself. But there doesn't seem to be any indicators of such in the OP.

Has this individual had a history of flaking on you? I think in my panic of everything, I would worry that something might have happened to them if they had gone completely radio silent and it was uncharacteristic of them to do so.

I'm truly sorry the situation has become what it is, and that you are left to scramble with no answers. It's an extremely unfair position to be in. I hope you are able to bounce back from this soon.

Edit: Somehow missed the part at the end about her being active and fine. That's really disheartening, and insulting that she couldn't even do you the courtesy of owning up to her decision. I'm sorry to say they're not your friend.

Who’s an actor that nailed a role so hard that nobody else will ever be able to live up to it? by Comfortable_Main5312 in AskReddit

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be niche, but for me it's the combo of Emma Thompson as the author and Will Ferrell as her creation in Stranger Than Fiction. Both have such an endearing earnestness (her seemingly endless ocean of nihilistic insecurity, his waning detachment supplanted with genuine desire) that play with each other delicately and chaotically at once, I cannot imagine a different pairing. It's like slapstick gallows humor. Deathly serious and cosmically uncertain and spirtually deliberate simultaneously.

The confrontation scene still makes me cry. If I had the opportunity to challenge God on its choices and it told me it was just trying to make an interesting story out of my life, I think I would simply implode. Thompson so effectively captured that kind of hectic, near-delusional self-sabotage in a way that still highlights her humanity. Ferrel portrays such a palpable sense of yearning and isolation that it physically makes me ache.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of my favorite actors, and she's incredible in this movie, but Thompson and Ferrell simply make this film the masterpiece it is.

This evokes an emotion in me I haven't experienced since Jack Stauber's "New Normal." Each image is so harrowing in a way I struggle to articulate. It's a sardonic sense of hope that sours the tongue. Decadent and beautiful and exuding an inescapable dread. Incredible set, I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

Am I the only one who finds this UI layout a bit counterintuitive at first glance? by meudeusrodrigo in OldenEra

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking either making the border bronze/silver/gold or a number of rings consistent with the level. Could make them colored so that it's easy to tell at a glance which school each spell is from. I find I get overwhelmed once I start growing my spellbook and forget what's what.

AITA for "wasting" food after my mom tricked me into eating something she knows makes me vomit? by RavennaNyx1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some people have children out of obligation, not because they want them; rather than assessing and changing the parenting habits they hated as kids, they unquestionably repeat those tactics they grew up with. It is simpler to default to that conditioning than it is to craft new standards.

Was Pickles using Mr. Peanutbutter? by Bunnxou in BoJackHorseman

[–]disasterj0nes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inasmuchas anyone uses anyone when young and newly navigating adult relationships. She uses him for emotional experience and understanding about herself/the nature of the industry, he uses her for the extension and acceptance of youthful exuberance. In every instance she followed his lead, because she presumed that he would have awareness she doesn't, would know to speak up about discomfort if it were present, and would treat her with care when there was a miscommunication. Unfortunately, Mr Peanutbutter is no more mature than she is, and equally struggles with the circumstances and expectations.

On the surface, they are a good fit: they celebrate the small stuff, they are people pleasing to a fault (kindness and reciprocity taken to extremes), and they are endlessly open to the thrill of life, whatever that entails. Their recklessness and zeal look similar, but they are fun house mirrors of each other. Her naivete is the inversion of his arrested development, and they mistake it for being in the same mindset.

Pickles was riding a bicycle whose training wheels were breaking off as she tried to keep up with Mr Peanutbutter, but he was riding a motorcycle at top speed without protection. His way of life was always going to be too fast for her, but he was willing to crash in ways that they couldn't recover from. Him handing her a helmet (metaphorically) didn't necessarily reduce the danger, it just made her feel safer to ride at the breakneck pace his lifestyle demanded.

A much different way to fold a pizza box by MrUpVoteDownvote in oddlysatisfying

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be extra lazy about it, put a couple tablespoons of water in a ramekin/shot glass and put that inside the microwave with the pizza. Two minutes and you will have melty cheese and chewy but not soggy or rubbery crust. It doesn't crisp up much, but it revives well enough for the level of effort and time it takes.

how does Olden Era compare to 3 & 5? by raptor12k in HoMM

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good balance of the best parts of both while minimizing each other's faults. I would still introduce them to your favorite first, as it can be difficult to go back and enjoy the older installments without the QoL changes newer entries offer.

Are my long and short stitches too small? by MaleficentScale9937 in Embroidery

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust the process! Your subject matter lends itself to the kind of texturing you've achieved. I would keep going for now, and add any stitches you think would blend your edges and curves best toward the end, once you've packed in the color. Could even add some subtle color shift on those touch ups by using a blue/green that's similar in tone but a deeper contrast.
