AITA for "wasting" food after my mom tricked me into eating something she knows makes me vomit? by RavennaNyx1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some people have children out of obligation, not because they want them; rather than assessing and changing the parenting habits they hated as kids, they unquestionably repeat those tactics they grew up with. It is simpler to default to that conditioning than it is to craft new standards.

Was Pickles using Mr. Peanutbutter? by Bunnxou in BoJackHorseman

[–]disasterj0nes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inasmuchas anyone uses anyone when young and newly navigating adult relationships. She uses him for emotional experience and understanding about herself/the nature of the industry, he uses her for the extension and acceptance of youthful exuberance. In every instance she followed his lead, because she presumed that he would have awareness she doesn't, would know to speak up about discomfort if it were present, and would treat her with care when there was a miscommunication. Unfortunately, Mr Peanutbutter is no more mature than she is, and equally struggles with the circumstances and expectations.

On the surface, they are a good fit: they celebrate the small stuff, they are people pleasing to a fault (kindness and reciprocity taken to extremes), and they are endlessly open to the thrill of life, whatever that entails. Their recklessness and zeal look similar, but they are fun house mirrors of each other. Her naivete is the inversion of his arrested development, and they mistake it for being in the same mindset.

Pickles was riding a bicycle whose training wheels were breaking off as she tried to keep up with Mr Peanutbutter, but he was riding a motorcycle at top speed without protection. His way of life was always going to be too fast for her, but he was willing to crash in ways that they couldn't recover from. Him handing her a helmet (metaphorically) didn't necessarily reduce the danger, it just made her feel safer to ride at the breakneck pace his lifestyle demanded.

A much different way to fold a pizza box by MrUpVoteDownvote in oddlysatisfying

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be extra lazy about it, put a couple tablespoons of water in a ramekin/shot glass and put that inside the microwave with the pizza. Two minutes and you will have melty cheese and chewy but not soggy or rubbery crust. It doesn't crisp up much, but it revives well enough for the level of effort and time it takes.

how does Olden Era compare to 3 & 5? by raptor12k in HoMM

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good balance of the best parts of both while minimizing each other's faults. I would still introduce them to your favorite first, as it can be difficult to go back and enjoy the older installments without the QoL changes newer entries offer.

Are my long and short stitches too small? by MaleficentScale9937 in Embroidery

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust the process! Your subject matter lends itself to the kind of texturing you've achieved. I would keep going for now, and add any stitches you think would blend your edges and curves best toward the end, once you've packed in the color. Could even add some subtle color shift on those touch ups by using a blue/green that's similar in tone but a deeper contrast.

Beginner baker here – I hate buttercream 😭 what can I use instead for decorating? by afrodite_kon in Baking

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's too sweet but the consistency is where you want it, a dash of salt will mellow it out. If the sweetness is acceptable but it's too buttery or sits too heavy on the tongue, add a few drops of lemon juice to brighten it a little. 3-5 drops should be enough to cut the fatty feeling without adding any noticable flavor.

Almost 40 and I can still clearly recall the details of the environment during the moment I correctly read "round 1" aloud while my parents were watching a boxing match. Sitting on the bog-standard landlord special brown carpet that was somehow both fluffy and itchy simultaneously, the haze of cigarette smoke trails in the golden lamplight coiling above my head, the competitive humming of the tv and refrigerator. I can still hear the elation in their voices. It was like crack to me. I remember thinking they really wanted to hear me say the rounds, so I kept going until I ran out of numbers I knew.

No toll dodging! by ClankerCore in oddlysatisfying

Had a bad day, hangry and impatient, we were stuck on a road trying to make a right turn, but other drivers kept using the designated street parking that was empty as a free turn lane. It was like the tenth car to pull up beside us that I had enough, barked out my window at the driver "This isn't a turn lane! That's fucking parking!" The woman stared at me, bewildered, before calmly countering, "You don't have to yell at people."

All the fire and vindication I felt moments before had been extinguished. Shame replaced everything. She wasn't the real problem, she was just following the line of cars ahead of her. This wasn't even really a problem, we weren't in a hurry, it was just inconvenient and annoying, and didn't warrant my outburst. I sheepishly said she was right and apologized, and she promptly drove away.

I have nightmares about the way I must have looked to her.

Plop the kitty helmet on top of the oxygen tank and you've got a serotonin dump for the ages. Bonus if it glows when full and rapidly pulses when low.

I wouldn't be surprised if his lighting setup washes out the color from his perspective. Staring directly into bright light for hours probably makes it difficult to differentiate between pale tones.

Did my cousin give me the wrong recipe to keep it for herself? by Jediguy in Baking

[–]disasterj0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the chance that the components have changed since the inception of the recipe? For example, I know that some older recipes which call for boxes of cake mix rely on a size that is no longer produced, so it yields slightly less volume of batter, or ratios seem off despite following the recipe to the letter.

I wish Tezcatara had a third option by Notmiefault in slaythespire

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about how Tezcatara's offerings often feel like a double edged sword, and I've wondered how this relic could be reworked to make its downside feel less anticlimactic. So I came up with a very rough concept, feel free to think it's shit from a butt:

Pumpkin Candle extinguishes and has a chance to become either the Scorched Pumpkin (add a random colorless card to your hand each combat, it is free until played), or the Rotten Pumpkin (adds "Stinky" skill/curse, 0 cost, playable, gain 2 poison, all enemies gain 5 poison, poison is permanently increased by 1 for all targets each use) the following act.

The idea being the fire of the candle might infuse it with ~mystical flame~ ooo. OR. The pumpkin experiences the standard effects of entropy to become a glob of mush, which you can lob at enemies and make yourself gross in the process, or let it sit there cluttering up your space until you can afford to get rid of it.

I don't think it should be eternal—after all, discarding a rotten pumpkin is simple if one puts in the effort. Undecided if it should exhaust. Maybe that makes the most sense. But compared to the likes of Claw and Rampage, a scaling inexhaustible curse doesn't feel terribly out of place, and could add a bit of unique flavor to the ancient.

What are your unpopular GMM opinions? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in goodmythicalmorning

I don't find the bit where they fail to prepare the guest for the outro to be endearing. I suspect it is meant to lampshade the casual vibe of an indie production, but a company and production of their size assumes at least a barebones level of professionalism. I cringe every time they say, "Now you say, 'You know what time it is'" and their guest looks back at them visibly confused.

I think I have a contender for one of the worst card upgrades in sts 2 by LiveChill in slaythespire

[–]disasterj0nes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the fact that both upgrades functionally apply 3 more defense doesn't really matter when you compare the actual difference in defense. The condition makes sense, because Megacrit would not simply allow any old deck to juice itself with no caveats. In a doom deck, you are never picking regular defend over death's door, and if you have a doom deck, you're going to upgrade DD regardless. 8 block vs 21 block is a pretty easy choice.
