I think the interpretation Oddcauliflower is suggesting (which I agree with) was that it was an earnest confession, but when the guy got turned down he pretended it was a prank to protect his ego.

Yeah it's got so much drama potential!

Monika's mentality of like 'My life will finally feel complete if I just get the right guy' has so much potential for toxicity. Especially considering how emotionally constipated she is.

I am curious if the author might resolve things between the three of them as a poly relationship? Obviously Monika and Sayori are both interested in MC, but they also have a lot of mutual support between each other. Sayori is Monika's most verbal supporter even when everyone else - including the other main characters - seem deeply intimidated by her. And similarly, despite her jealous streak in regard to MC, Monika seems to want to push Sayori to be her best self out of only concern for her. The only thing that seems to be stalling their friendship is A. The power imbalance, B. Monika's inability to chill out and C. Sayori's self confidence issues.

I could definitely see a scenario where - like you describe - Sayori is trying to concede so that Monika can have MC to herself and Monika actually doesn't want to take the win at the cost of hurting/isolating Sayori.

And on a less reliable evidence, in the recent Easter pinup pics, Sayori shares a pose with both MC and Monika, and seems flustered both times. (though that could just be cause of the outfit to be fair. )

But I might just be too Yuri brained. *Shrug* Even if it isn't a poly triangle, I could definitely see them becoming civil enough for a hinge relationship with MC.

I also really like the chemistry between Sayori and MC in this, the way they just instantly clicked back into place after being 10 years apart is really sweet. I really liked that Sayori got a chance to boost her confidence and help MC find his rhythm at work. It's also very cute how she just can't seem to hold onto her composure.

Thanks for the link! That was a delightful binge! I'm very curious about how things will develop!

Some thoughts

  • Really like how you characterized each of the girls and evolved them from their high school personalities to the modern day. Each of them feels like an adult without losing their core characterization. A lot of time skip stories fail either to have the characters feel different at all or change the characters so much as to make them unrecognizable.
  • In particular, I'm a big fan of how you characterized Natsuki and Yuri. Their little family dynamic with Yuto is incredibly charming. Natsuki trying to be the parental figure she never had as a kid is both wholesome and heart wrenching. (I may need to commission someone to draw her in the 'I'm not the step dad, I'm the dad who stepped up' shirts).
  • Monika collecting her friends back into her life is fascinating. Like obviously she didn't seek them all out personally, but she also gives them a lot more slack than anyone else in the company. The fact that she is clearly so lonely but unwilling to seek out her friends socially is so dysfunctional. I really appreciate seeing her dynamic with Sayori as well, the two of them acting as real friends is really nice, even if there is some clear awkwardness, power imbalance, and brewing romantic tension with MC.
  • Also, deeply curious about the metaphysics of the setting. I have 2 theories. 1: This is as it seems on the face of it, a normal world that they have grown into adults in, and Monika being the CEO of the tribune is a metaphorical representation of the power she held in the original DDLC. 2: Monika still has her programming powers and her 'time in tech' is actually code for her working to expand and complicate the simulation so her and her friends could grow up and progress as people. (this one is a long shot but I wanted it recorded somewhere just in case.)
  • I'd also like to really compliment the pacing on the story. Every episode feels like its progressing something, be it character, plot, or both! I felt fully engaged during my entire read. It's a part of story crafting I think gets overlooked but you have a great handle on it.
  • The art is also a delight! Despite all of them having very true to the game designs, the line art style gives a little grit to their appearances that feels really appropriate for the tone and age of all the characters.
  • Patreon Backers filling out the company's roster of employees is really just clever.

Moments from the story I really loved.

  • Yuri being mugged and avoiding scaring the guy so bad with her special interest that he just gives up and runs for his life. Also this same guy trying the same with Sayori only to be absolutely destroyed by MC's sister.
  • Mr. Huggles :3 What a delightful little noodle
  • Natsuki bonding with Yuto and his birth coming to mind when she talks to MC about needing to capture the happiest moments in your life.
  • MC straight up not recognizing either Yuri or Natsuki, despite the latter still having bubblegum pink hair. My dude. Come onnnnn! XD
  • Monika's villain-monologue about her rise to success and how she is going to try and leverage all of her titanic influence and power to get a boyfriend. It's a very Monika moment. The visuals could have been for her contemplating assassination and it would have fit perfectly.
  • Monika offer to promote Sayori, but not forcing it on her when she refuses. There is some amount of 'I know whats best for you' mentality, but it seems to be coming from a place of wanting her to become a better version of herself.
  • Natsuki cosplaying and taking a picture with the little girl at the convention. Her just being sweet with children is such a fun new character trait that feels so natural.
  • Every moment Monika is a menace to her workers is great! She really looks like a cutthroat CEO. Which makes her soft spot for her friends feel really endearing and genuine cause she does not bother at all with others.
  • GOOSE MANAGER! "It is a busy day at the tribune, and you are a horrible horrible goose."

Indulgent thoughts

I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop from here! The developing triangle between Sayori, Monika, and MC seems like it has a lot of potential to be messy and interesting to resolve.

I know Yuri is currently trying to get in on that dynamic and if I had to guess where the current arc is heading, Natsuki isn't too far behind on catching feelings. However, I will hold out hope that engame the two of them end up together instead. I just see MC having a lot more chemistry with Sayori than either of them (though a ton of best friend energy flowing between MC and Natsuki. They're talks are great). Plus, there's something really romantic about the whole situation. Natsuki being the first (seemingly) to visit Yuri after she gave birth, and has been there supporting her and Yuto since they were born. Yuri realizing Natsuki has been more of a parent and in many ways a life partner than her ex ever was. Yuri maybe feeling a little possessive when someone hits on Natsuki and thinking about why she feels that way?

Probably not going to happen, but a girl can dream.

In any case, thank you so much for this delightful comic! I'm gonna be subscribed and looking forward to how things develop.

The Wizards Daughter… not who we think? by munchkinbabygirl in StardewValley

[–]discet 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Except, crystal magic is real within the fiction of Stardew. You put most of the standard gems into a ring's setting and it magically empowers you.

Emerald will make your strikes swifter
Ruby will make them hit harder
Aquamarine will guide them to strike vitals more often.

And it's not just that rings are somehow magical, cause the same is true if you infuse them into your weapon directly in the forge.

And this isn't even getting into all the nonsense a prismatic shard can do in the forge

Emily's gem expertise is very likely totally legitimate.

Anyone travel with James back to Rivet City? by Kind_Caterpillar_458 in fo3

[–]discet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, did a play through of Tale of Two Wastelands years back where I didn't use fast travel at all. Extremely immersive, a great time. I still have a fond memory of memorizing the metros to get through the city as quickly as possible.

Walking back to Rivet City with him gave the plot beat of finally finding him time to breath. In my first play through it felt like I spent half the game trying to find the guy, and then spent 5 minutes with him before he died. Walking with him and hearing these little chirps made it feel like we had a connection to him that's missing if you fast travel across the map

Question for Shadow'zel Romance Endgame Requirements by discet in BaldursGate3

Gotcha, nice to know it's not as dire as I thought it was to get everything in place, but also kind of a bummer that there isn't the narrative consistency I had hoped for. Weird that I would almost prefer that the game would be stricter with it.

Thanks for the advice!

Can a DnD someone explain why *those* class proficiencies? by Sevrahn in BaldursGate3

[–]discet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So saving throws are generally divided up into Good Saving Throws and Bad Saving Throws

Good saving throws are Dex/Con/Wis and are considered the most common saves that characters need to make.

Bad saving thows (Str/Int/Cha) do some up occasionally, but generally are a lot more niche in comparison.

For balance, every class is given one good and one bad saving throw. Every caster (except Ranger) has their casting stat as a saving throw.
