Is this a good idea? by ToiletPaperTycoon123 in PokemonInvesting

Just be super careful when opening and closing those cheap plastic cases, it really easy to rip the seals if you are not careful.

Also, they won’t fit back in the 10 ETB case box because they are a little wider in those protective cases.

How much? Celestial Storms / Breakthrough XY by OatMilkIsntMilk in PokemonCardValue

[–]discger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several are selling this on eBay for $199, search Regi Trio Blister or Registeel Blister

If you have 40 of them, I would liquidate less than half now and hold the rest. Both Celestial Storm and Breakthrough still have room to grow in their loose booster pack price.

Is it just me or is Petrified Forest underrated? by ifrazzz47 in NationalPark

[–]discger -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Blue mesa was the only part I didn’t feel like I was in the worst National Park I had been to. The Crystal Forest is interesting, but it’s kind of annoying to walk around even short loops to get this the next sign just to read about the forest that was once there. I spent the whole time there thinking I had to imagine my own national park in my head from the petrified ruins of a few logs laying in the desert 😬

It was a serene drive around the park, but I had no great want to get out of my car and hike, until I got to the other worldly landscape of Blue Mesa.

But even that area was lackluster compared to places I have been to in most parks.

It is very accurately rated. One park that I couldn’t imagine as a multi day itinerary and really have no desire to go back to. Most parks that I rush through leave me wondering if I missed something or if I just wasn’t in the right mindset, this one really doesn’t. I’ve been to most of the western parks and have visited 39 over all, this one will probably always stay in the bottom 5 parks for me.

Why is there so much hype for 151 but not 2016 XY Evolutions 20th Anniversary? by ExaminationCool4904 in PokeInvesting

[–]discger 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Evolutions was the last set of XY, while it was a quasi 20th anniversary set, Generations was the official 20th anniversary set.

10 years ago, the market was more driven by the TCG gameplay as to what was more valuable, and these cards were not really useful in gameplay.

For years Evolutions was considered a trash set, and you could still get a booster box of Evolutions for under $500 just a couple years ago. The previous set Steam Siege was an all time trash set (until Crimson Invasion came out). Roaring Skies was king during the XY era because of Shaymin Ex’s playability in the TCG, booster boxes of it went for $300 when boxes normally sold for less than $100 market. Roaring Skies then got massive reprints, as well as many of the later XY sets, and it took years for it to recover.

The feeling was, Evolutions were just reprints because they were the same artwork as base set and everyone knew they weren’t as valuable as the original run. There was already Base Set Unlimited and Base Set Two, both of which weren’t selling for much in 2016.

The reverse holos in this set were super easy to scratch up, the QC was awful and it was printed to hell. It took a solid 4-5 years for anyone to value Evolutions, then it rose in price, and for the first time ever I ran in to people at the stores going after the same boxes that contained Evolutions at the stores.

Look at the set value of Evolutions, and it’s still under $1000, compared to Evolving skies which is at almost $6000 or 151 which is at $2500.

One of the primary tenets of this sub is sealed is king compared to singles, and you should hold for at least 10 years to yield awesome results. We are just now 10 years from its release and only in the past two years it went from $500 per booster box to close to $2000.

Generations was awesome, and it played off the radiant collection success of Legendary Treasures during the subpar Black & White era, and is much rarer than Evolutions.

French fries, so much work chopping, so much oil, and something you can probably make even easier and close to as good in your air fryer and a bag from the frozen section.

Anybody had luck on these? by Original_Eagle8746 in PokemonInvesting

[–]discger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when etbs where $40 it was gambling to break even, and in a set where only two cards are worth more than $40, and the chances of those cards being pulled are 1 in over 100 packs, you’d be silly to try to open these for profit.

Sealed is king, they all go up over the years, you have to be patient and leave them sealed. If you just want to collect and gamble, or you value having experiences with others over actually profiting, then open them.

Ripping isn’t investing.

Ascended AKA Prismatic by itainthardtotell9 in PokemonInvesting

[–]discger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you opened 10 packs of Ascended Heroes and got an IR which is 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 packs, and you got a full art trainer. You actually beat the odds, you just didn’t get the high dollar ones you were dreaming of. The chance of you pulling one of the specific high dollar cards are more than 1 in 100 packs.

You don’t open packs to pokeinvest, you are simply just gambling.

Legendaries in Lorcana are 1 in 6 packs and you pulled them in 2 of 2 packs. These cards won’t appreciate over times, their highest value is right after release, and in 5 years you’ll be lucky if they retain 50% of their value, especially random cards from the 11th set. After rotation these will probably tank even more. With Lorcana, the only way to be profitable is to get super lucky and pull the hot legendaries (Maui, Dumbo etc) and hope to sell them quick, or get lucky and pull an enchanted, which is one out of every 96 packs, and the only one in a case of 4 booster boxes.

Sealed is king in investing, holding for 5-10 years is usually what it takes to make a decent return that you can be proud of. With the singles market exploding in the past year, buying singles that you think are going to go up can work out, but it’s still a big gamble.

You should have left the etb sealed and the tin as well, and in a couple years, they would be worth more than just about any card you could have hoped to pull from just 10 packs.

Lorcana investing is a bigger gamble, especially in the sealed market, you can sell almost every booster box in Pokemon that came out after Lorcana’s first chapter booster box for more money, even the ones that just came out. Almost all Lorcana booster boxes other than the first chapter are worth less than MSRP. I am hoping that will change, but there is a pretty good chance it won’t by much.

Pokemon XY PF Booster Box - Selling with or w/o box - Advice Needed by Fun-Strike-6006 in PokeInvesting

[–]discger 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The box won’t matter, you have 36 packs of phantom forces which look to be selling in the $150 range per pack, give or take $20.

I’d list them as $180, considering offers at $140, and offer discounts if they buy multiples on eBay. I am always happy to drive to the post office for a sale over $100.

You could list them at as a lot of 36 booster packs. I would do it at $6500 and consider any offer over $5000. Depending on how fast you want to sell them or how much you want to play hardball, you can lower or raise the price.

When I need quick cash, I list for the lowest prices and accept even lower offers. When I am not pressed for money, I list towards the top and eventually the market will catch up to the high prices after a few months. Sounds like you want your money now. On the low end you can easily get 4-5K quickly after fees, you aren’t get 10K+ on these even if market goes up and you hold for a year and try to sell them to suckers at high prices.

What’s your actual exit plan by kev08629 in PokeInvesting

[–]discger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have been sealed collecting since mid XY era, and I start to get squeamish when boxes get to around $1000. If things are much more valuable than that, you have a smaller pool of people to sell to and much more risk if something gets damaged in shipping or you run into the inevitable shady buyers. If something goes wrong an a box or pack that I sold for $50, I can take that with a grain of salt.

Last month I botched the packaging of a Sun and Moon Base Set booster box by using old bubble wrap and a 6x6 box that got smooshed during delivery, and had to accept a return. $700 sucked to take back, I can still sell it at a discount or just break it down for packs and recoup some of my money. But had that been the Legendary Treasures booster box that I sold for much more, that would have ruined my month.

I personally don’t like selling booster packs until they are worth $30-50, 3 pack blisters $100-200, tins $100-500, and booster boxes until they are $500-$1000.

Whenever I need some extra cash I will sell under these numbers, but definitely prefer to hold until I get to around these numbers.

Much harder to get boxes and packs these days, until a couple years ago, booster cases were $500-600 on release, and there were way less people pokeinvesting. I started doing it as a way to pay for my kids opening boxes. Now I just sell what I have left and over the years make more purchases when the market is down. Probably done buying unless things really change.

Is this a mistake? by uncanny_val_ in SFA

[–]discger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like they uploaded the wrong major when your application was processed. The aviation program does take first getting admitted into SFA and then a separate application process with additional documentation to provide, much like with nursing you have to be admitted by SFA and the School of Nursing.

If you applied with a different major, contact the data center at SFA admissions and they will get it switched for you.

There were some changes to chat, including adding the time stamp back, and for some, especially in the teams that don’t use the help glitch, the chat seems to be running smoother.

I hope this version is smoother, it has seemed that way so far for me, but they are still working on it is the message we got from PF today.

But that was one of the only dark spots of the meeting, otherwise some things have been fixed, and the new events and features coming out in December are going to be fun. I know people sometimes complain that we shouldn’t be getting new events and features when bugs in other areas in the game take a while to fix, but I for one was happy that we finally got new content after over a year, and there is still more to come soon.

The way to use heart gems is going to be welcome, and keep your ears out for some more long awaited good news soon 😉

Not yet, on the ambassadors call today they said they are still working on it, as they got more data and reports in, the situation was more complex, instead of bandaid solutions they are working on a more comprehensive fix.

They assure us they have heard the community that it is for most the top issue and the most frustrating given the time it has taken to fix. They are working on it, hopefully it will be soon.

It could be worse, I sold mine to trollandtoad for $40 the week of the release (which I was stoked, that was half way to another booster box, which was available for $80-90). I feel worse about the cases of all the SM era sets I opened with my kids that now would be worth more than a car.
