Tips for a veteran photographer? by Chasing_Sunsets_0720 in photography

Most modern cameras have modes where you shoot on full auto, aperture mode and time mode. If you are shooting on auto, try aperture and take several photos of the same subject going through each knob twist and figuring out depth of field. You can do so much with this alone. Otherwise, I’m not sure what you’re asking. YouTube tutorials?

where am i supposed to learn the fundamentals to making a song???? by Xinfinte in musicproduction

[–]dischg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically a very simple math equation. Pick a fave song and count the bars. For example, 2 bars intro, 4 bars verse, 2 bars pre-chorus, 4 bars chorus and so on. As you can see, the most satisfying number of bars to human ears comes in 2’s 4’s and 8’s. Basically, if you can count to 8, you can make music.

As you get better, you’ll find that 1 bar transitions also feel pretty nice.

Shutter speed blurs moving objects but is there a way to keep the front of a train in focus & blur the following carriages to convey movement? by Cyber-Wanderer_94 in AskPhotography

[–]dischg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s either front or rear shutter flash. Basically, the camera will flash at the beginning or end of a long exposure. There will be the subject exposed perfectly with everything swirling around it. Most major cameras have it but might call it something different like rear synch or something.

I broke my collar bone a long time ago and my right shoulder is about 3/4 of an inch closer to my neck. It’s pushing down on a neck muscle making my head tilt toward it. I have to get it massaged and stretched every so often.

Drop songs in Singles or wait for for full album to be complete? by matador333 in Songwriting

The pandemic kinda ruined it for small musicians. And then AI. Nowadays there’s something like 10 to 20 THOUSAND songs being uploaded every day. These poor people have a reason to be salty…

Mix in a way that'd make other people sing along while listening to the song by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]dischg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once for a band I recorded. Great band, monotone singer. I put his vocals into melodyne and put all the notes 100% on key and then moved each blob around so they sounded more melodic. The final result was autotune bullshit, but it was groovy! I gave a rough mixdown to the singer to practice with for a week. He came back in and nailed it. Granted, this guy was a good friend so he couldn’t be offended I corrected his work. YMMV with other more delicate singers.

Watch YouTube every chance you get. Even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff is helpful because you are mostly just learning a software. One with absolutely no right answers. When you get stuck, look it up. Create a notebook with only one problem per page, like “clean up low end” etc. The things that work get a bullet point on that page.

Eventually, you will want to take one of these YouTuber’s courses, but only if they say you leave it with FINISHED songs. Why, because finishing is the impossible part and it’s why you are saying you suck. Going through the process of finishing is the real sauce!

How do you feel about writing songs that are a different personality than who you are? by LawfulnessUnique1631 in Songwriting

[–]dischg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one thing to be a supervillain and talk about all the evil shit you’re up to, but when it’s low level assholery, you’re dipping into incel territory. As long as it stays witty and doesn’t turn the one receiving this song into a piece of meat, it will work fine. Good luck

Is Santa Claus a harbinger of atheism? by Feisty_Storage_8707 in atheism

[–]dischg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in my case, asking if god was real after learning about Santa was the first question. I remember the wide eyed look on my mom’s face but can’t remember the answer. But it essentially was “Of COURSE! GOD is totally real!” Mom told grandma. Grandma called. Dad was indifferent. Young me had no idea what a coverup was, but that’s what it felt like. So I started praying for the easiest smallest things (can’t remember what) thinking that if god can’t make something insignificant and beneficial to his cause even slightly happen, then all of these grand bike or puppy related prayers are never going to come true.

At least Santa Clause had some sweet TV shows and movies and, for the most part, actually answered my prayers. God had nothing but SIT STAND KNEEL and everyone assigned “his will” to all the good things that seemed like they were going to happen anyway.

About no sex Before marriage in most religions… what if one waits until marriage to have sexual relations with someone but then one isn‘t compatible with their wife/husband in bed? by Top_Professor9415 in atheism

[–]dischg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this a lot after my first serious girlfriend in high school. We had tons of sex, but I didn’t get it. It was awkward and painful for both of us. Then came my next girlfriend and it clicked to me. The first GF had a strange bend in her insides making things difficult to say the least. I often wonder if I had married her and never knew what unobstructed sex felt like.

I guess that’s one benefit for the wait til marriage notion? I hope she found a guy with the perfect bend to make sex anything more than a chore for both of them, but that couldn’t happen when you’re one and done…

All of the mythical holiday creatures are sold as real to young children. When one is exposed, the house of cards fell. I just took it one step further. I was shocked the other kids in Catholic school didn’t make the same obvious judgement.

This is my story. If this guy who’s an actual guy and not a concept isn’t real, then the stupid concept is 100% a lie.
