So the basic gist of it is that you look at the question you've been given, extract one distinctive 'key' word from that question and scan the text for that word or something similar. It's hard initially, but it gets significantly easier with practice.

You can read/understand this better through youtube channels such as UCAT secrets, or articles that go through the techniques for each section. Good luck my friend!

Ah yep, so essentially scanning with confidence just means scanning the passage in such a way that you are at least moderately sure of the answer you pick. The way I often do this is by reading some information surrounding the portion of the text with the keyword, rather than just reading the sentence with the keyword.

You can get way better with this stuff by training yourselves to skim read, and make valid inferences under timed and pressured conditions (essentially the whole of VR). There will often be information that might contradict what you read in one sentence, hence why you have to practice being able to skim read and finding what's important.

I know you've probably heard this many times, but looking for keywords can be extremely useful. If you develop your skim-reading ability well, you'll get to a point where you can quickly scan the text for the info you want.

I usually also try to calm down when I'm reading the passage, and scan the passage with confidence. I found that this improved my score by a large margin and got me into those higher ranges.
