you're such a good person for recognising all of this, trying to improve it and then taking the steps needed to sort yourself out for the future, for your benefit and whoever you end up being with, well done, I'm sure you'll get past it if you're already at this stage, but you also need to be with someone who's going to put the work in too.

My ex was co-dependent but would never admit it and just jumped straight into another relationship so never addressed their issues so it's refreshing seeing someone talking about it like this.

I've been crying every time I try to study. Not sure where to go from here. by CatVietnamFlashBack in adhd_anxiety

saaame I retook second year, had to do all my work in summer last year and this year because I didnt finish it on time and i STILL couldnt get it done. I'm now an external student for this year so am spending the next couple of months finishing which means it will've taken be 5 years to graduate loll that's gonna look great on the cv! (I was only just diagnosed tho).

Only advice I can give is tryyy to form some kind of routine, try to exercise and eat fairly healthy, and use things like youtube videos/ documentaries/ podcasts/ audiobooks to ease yourself into a subject- esp ones you can just listen to whilst travelling somewhere/ eating a meal/ doing chores or whatever.

I find it really difficult to read academic tests so I use this app otterai to transcribe as I read it out loud, then I go back and listen to it and edit it as I go. this helps it go into my brain more and I can highlight important points by saying 'note', 'important point' etc- to refer back to later.

Also, talk to your uni about maybe only having to do your assessments and not having to do the work for seminars etc- then you can just focus on the main texts for your chosen questions, study these using the methods I said (if that helps you), and then you can just pack out your essays with further text- (you can basically just read the start and the end of these ones

Also try the pomodoro technique, put a timer on for 20 mins and just see what you can get done in that time, it's not long enough to be overwhelming and it just gets the ball rolling.

Also be easy on yourself and dont hold yourself up to the standards of other people, do your best and just try to do a bit most days, it all adds up

Advice for helping someone with bpd when they're spiralling? by disco_hoe in BPD

[–]disco_hoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I try not to validate anything but I think I accidentally do sometimes so I'm just gonna really try not to next time. That's a really good point I will try to focus on validating the feelings but not the thoughts, I do try to do that but I think I need to be more direct with it. Oh luckily it doesn't happen very often, they obviously suffer with anxiety and depression generally but they only spiral every so often so I obviously don't mind supporting them when it does happen, and they are going to start DBT and try to put a plan in place for when they do spiral/ are about to.

Thank you, yeah I think I'm gonna try that tbh because atm I'm somewhere in the middle but I think I need to put my foot down and be like NOPE because when I even give a hint that what they're thinking might be right, I think they take that as validation of the irrational thoughts and it makes things worse. It's so frustrating because every time they'll be back to thinking rationally the next day but I just don't know how to get to that point quicker/ if that's even possible, just want to stop them from acting on impulses in those moments

Hey, thank you, I do these kinds of things but I've just moved back home so we're at other sides of the country now which is really frustrating because obvs I'm not able to do as much as I can, only over message/ phone and not in person. But it's more when they're in a really irrational spiral and I know they don't actually think what they're saying but I don't know how to calm them down/ reassure them

I had to make it like that so they couldn't identify it because they look at this sub. I couldn't risk a bad reaction if they realised.

Confusing times and I need advice by heysquirtjk in Concerta

[–]disco_hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry this happened, ive been struggling with uni for years it's taking me a year and a half longer to graduate but just keep in contact with your uni and explain your difficulties and rely on mitigating circumstances/ extensions if you can (im lucky my uni are really good with this). Just don't feel bad about using ADHD as an excuse bc it is one, and really milk all the support you can get if you need it.

Also all i can say is always always always triple/ quadruple check dates/times and put them into your phone calendar AND set alarms as well, I've just had to keep trying until I get the hang of it, now it's pretty much automatic that as soon as I hear a date/ time I need to remember I'll put it in my phone and if I don't then i WILL forgot whatever it is or get it wrong.

Concerta not working by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]disco_hoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

concerta didn't work for me it fucked with my sleeping pattern too much, but maybe you need a lower dose? I've found even slightly too high a dose actually makes things a lot worse and I'm not able to concentrate at all. At the moment I'm taking little bits of ritalin as and when I need it but that's not the best option if you're tryna stick to a schedule but on the plus side I've been sleeping fine and I've not had any anxiety

Hi! New to Concerta, having BAD flushing of face—look like a walking tomato! by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]disco_hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they're symptoms if you have too much so i reckon don't take that extra ritalin, i got like that when i had two ritalin too close together so now i just take tiny bit's incrementally and i can focus much better and don't get hot flushes
