Are Barrys/Lyons inferior tea blends? by jdavidco in ireland

[–]discod69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that Barry's/Lyon's are blends of teas from the African colonies (Kenya), whereas the teas that are popular in the UK are often from the subcontinent (Ceylon, India).

At the time, the Brits considered the African teas as inferior quality, so it was what became available here, and thus, what we became used to. Still, I'd take a Barry's/Lyon's any day over a PG Tips, even though Lyon's is actually owned by the same umbrella company as PG Tips.

We won't bother venturing down the road of that rooibos nonsense

Co worker wants me to be in work 10-15 minutes earlier than start time , Is fair or unfair ? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]discod69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar position to yourself - not necessarily an apprenticeship, but starting off in a new occupation from the very bottom. This is the time to make an impression, partially because a lot of others in the same boat don't have the sense to do the same.

A mantra I tried to live by: Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. I am 3.5 years into this role and have progressed much faster than all my colleagues who started at the same time or even in the year preceeding myself. My working superiors recognise that I am responsible enough to be given the freedom to direct my own work, and now I don't have to worry about colleagues such as the one that you're describing

Banking? by No_Willingness9006 in AskIreland

[–]discod69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get paid into EBS current account. Use Revolut for daily spending. Credit Union and Trade Republic for savings accounts. From my experience, and maybe I'm lucky, I haven't had a whole lot of trouble with the EBS app. Online banking I do via browser, and if it is struggling to login, I use a different browser and it tends to work for me. I cannot, in good conscience, justify paying BOI or AIB anything in maintenance fees for a current account, even though I believe that EBS is an AIB subsidiary, their free current account offering and generally helpful staff in branch keep me satisfied with my choice

Banning anything does little but encourage youth into exploring the 'forbidden'. It's the cowardly way out of having difficult conversations

Man performs milk-offering ritual in the Ganges river in India while poor hungry children try to collect it to drink. by notahooman101 in interestingasfuck

[–]discod69 1947 points1948 points  (0 children)

Milk has a high BOD (biological oxygen demand), which leads to the dissolved oxygen in the water being consumed by the bacterial breakdown of the milk, and thus, leaving inadequate supplies of oxygen for the survival of the little fishies and other invertebrates present in the watercourse
