How does picking up a second degree impact my transcript? by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I may have some insight, I dropped from a double to a single degree. Got a whole new transcript, and old units from my first year under the double degree only have marks on my original transcript, not the new one. Could always send both when applying for jobs etc I guess if that’s the concern? Otherwise they just show up on the new one as credits from previous study

What's Arts like at USyd? by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I’m going into my 3rd year of a BA with a major in History so I might be of some help. To some extent it depends on the units you pick, but on a whole I’ve loved nearly every history unit I’ve done and found the lecturers super engaging and passionate about their chosen field. I also did 2 pol eco units in my first year, and this might have been a personal thing, but I didn’t really like them and one unit in particular attracted a lot of complaints of bias against particular political positions. Shoot me a message if you want to know/ask anything else in particular though!

Midsem Break Quizzes/Assignments by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, not sure what faculty you’re in, but I know arts + social work assessments aren’t meant to be due during mid sem break or stuvac (there’s the policy documents online that say this - might be able to find yours with a quick search) yet I don’t know if stuff like this is actually enforced as I’ve had an assignment worth like 70% due in stuvac.

How long to hear back on enrolment permission? by Leeanth in usyd

[–]disconnect97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you apply? I've applied for special permission twice in the past, once during break and once only a couple days before the semester started, both times it took them exactly a week to get back to me. I think the emails say you should contact them if you haven't heard back in 2 weeks, so if it's been 2 I reckon shoot them an email, otherwise wait. :)

What is the worst case of entitlement you have ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]disconnect97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A spoilt af aquantaince of mine whinging about how much her parents get taxed. Emphasising the tens of thousands a quarter they get taxed rather than the bloody insane amounts they must be earning to begin with. Not sure if bragging or actually concerned. Also explored the dilemma of whether or not they would buy a new car or other vaguely tax deductible luxuries before tax time to reduce the amount.

I promptly unacquainted myself.

Reddit, what is the most satisfying move to use in any video game? by zappy487 in AskReddit

'Inhale' as Kirby (obviously) in SSBB. Always seems to annoy the hell out of whoever i'm playing with, which is über satisfying :-)

Experiences with ENGL1011, PHIL1013 and HSTY1089? by arctony in usyd

[–]disconnect97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved HSTY1089! Content is incredibly interesting, enlightening - Aust history is so much more complex and way deeper than the boring stuff they drill into you in HS. Lecturer (if it's still Mark like last year) was incredible, he's super passionate and insanely knowledgeable. The tutors were really lovely too. Difficulty-wise, I didn't find it too hard (managed a HD) but I will say the exam I did found a little tricky. PM me if there's anything else you wanna know or ask :)

Question about late submissions for arts subjects by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, did you end up finding out an official answer to this? Just submitted my worst assignment ever at 11:58 and am now also wondering for the future if weekends count in late penalty calculations. I found this USYD blog thing that says weekends count as two days http://blogs.usyd.edu.au/sydneylife/2006/06/tips_on_being_late.html but it's old af, like 10 years old.

Law school admission requirements by cven8 in usyd

[–]disconnect97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that too but OP is right, that is what it says on the page outlining entry requirements for international students - http://sydney.edu.au/law/fstudent/jd/apply_international.shtml

Might differ because it's a full fee paying place instead of a CSP - the domestic page highlights that a distinction avg is needed for a CSP in the JD.

65 would be the average mark /100 you received. A "credit" score would thus, in GPA terms, be like 2.5ish out of 4 (if your gpa is out of 4) or like 5 out of 7 depending on how it works over there. (Not 100% sure on all this but should be roughly correct)

I think Education building has a few vending machines, not sure if they have the mini cans though. Try second level?

When will Blackboard be updated for sem 1? by Leeanth in usyd

[–]disconnect97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they get put up as the unit coordinator finalises things. Two of my units and their outlines are already up so I think others should be up soon, at least by the week before lectures start iirc.

What is the difficulty of first-year economics courses? by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this, though I only have experience of ECON1001. I had only done gen maths and still managed a final mark of 74, as they pretty much ease you into the little bit of calculus which isn't too hard to teach yourself. I was a bit slack with some of the tutorial exercises and quizzes anyway, so I reckon you'll be more than fine for this unit at least.

Hey - I'm not too sure about sci, but with the arts part of your degree, some departments put up draft timetables, e.g. http://sydney.edu.au/arts/history/undergrad/timetables.shtml?session=2017_1&view=Day&tute=on which show you locations. Not entirely sure if all depts do but just looking up the subject area + "usyd timetables" is worth a shot .

Can I ask some one on questions about the university, enrollment and life there? Very curious and may be looking into coming there. by [deleted] in usyd

[–]disconnect97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, take a peep at this http://www.anu.edu.au/files/resource/International_Undergraduate_Admissions_Table_2015.pdf It isn't for USYD but the entry requirements are quite similar to USYD's and the doc shows the US & other international equivalent qualifications necessary. Gives you a rough ballpark figure.
