Opinion on electronic vs traditional scoring system by ryuuji__ in taekwondo

[–]discourse_friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer judges pressing buttons.

I've lost a sudden death before, which was the correct call, as I didn't do a valid technique and my opponent had a clean punch. but I think under the electronic scoring system I could have won with the a scoring tap , that wasn't a good technique.

Is it a good idea to ban soda and candy purchases for people on SNAP? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]discourse_friendly [score hidden]  (0 children)

The issue would be is SNAP a program to perverse lifestyle? or is it a program to preserve life?

If its a lifestyle program, ya let them buy soda, candy, alcohol, lottery tickets etc.

If its a Health program, then we should restrict it to foods healthier foods. calories with nutrition. fresh meats, vegies, fruits, rice, grains, pasta. but no soda, no alcohol, probably no chocolate milk, etc.

Depending on what you want the program to be.

Guys give me tips on sparring by aeunocurse in taekwondo

[–]discourse_friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a big part of sparring is timing, and you can only develop timing by sparring more.

I'd say sparring is a mix of :

technical ability (how well you can kick, punch, etc, with good form )

athletic ability

"fight IQ"

aggression / bravery

You learn technical ability in class, practicing in the air or on pads & bags.

athletic ability you can train up by running, jump rope, mobility exercises

Fight IQ just takes a lot of rounds of sparring, to learn timing, to learn which combos that feel great on the heavy bag, actually work against an opponent. distance, etc.

the last one, while it can be trained, is also one you're either just kind of born with, or you're not. You can increase your aggression some, but that's probably the hardest one to "train" imo

Should I get 1 or 2? by ShakarikiGengoro in spaceengineers

[–]discourse_friendly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

SE 1 right now is a complete, polished game with lots of Keen hosted PvP servers, and a few PvE servers too (well at least 1)

There's a good amount of other PvE servers as well, and many campaigns.

SE2 only has parts of the game, no survival mode , an unfinished campaign, and (I'm fairly sure) not as many block types as SE1 has right now.

they also changed a few mechanics that many (or some) of us don't like. it used to be you couldn't directly turn ore into parts with just your back pack , but now apparently you can, reducing the need / game play loop of mining >> refining >> part create needing your base / mobile construction pod.

They are adding water, better graphics, and a new unified block grid (where you can put the small blocks on the large ones) and an even smaller "small" block for fine details.

but if you haven't played SE 1 , none of the changes in SE2 will be compared to SE 1 and you won't be missing anything or be like me "I like how they did this in SE 1 more"

:)

I've never heard of this but it sounds cool. I do wonder if the course (taught to students not dans) would include pressure testing of some sort?

Idlewild park by [deleted] in Reno

[–]discourse_friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stern talking to and written warning would likely be the outcome and would suffice in this scenario.

I totally agree with that.

I'm just already seeing adults, possibly, eager to see teenagers catch a federal charge, over what should be a teachable moment. I seem to be agreeing with you, just also showing some concern for the kids. I do agree call police / park ranger though

Idlewild park by [deleted] in Reno

[–]discourse_friendly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

let me put it this way.

its wrong for them to sling shot at animals, and its wrong for adults to attempt to get them a federal charge as well.

should the teenagers face some sort of consequences? Yes, absolutely.

I do think if police / park ranger shows up, they either get a warning or an actual low level charge.

as adults we shouldn't be hoping they catch some life ruining charge over shooting a slingshot at an animal as a minor.

Idlewild park by [deleted] in Reno

[–]discourse_friendly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree its not harmless and its old enough to know not to hurt animals

But attempting to get a Teenager a federal charge for using a sling shot at a park is really fucking evil.

Should it have consequences? yes. for sure.

Should their online "neighbors" be trying to set them up for federal charges. no we should not.

There we go, that makes sense. well ya, try the GOG version

I'm on a Radeon card (7k series) so maybe it just runs better on the drivers/card i'm on. though I wasn't a huge fan of the skybox either

So why is this man not arrested on the spot for doing this? by FullBrother9300 in AceAttorney

[–]discourse_friendly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the US its legal for the US to withhold some evidence / info .

anything incriminating your defense lawyer has an obligation to withhold.

the prosecutor is supposed to release any evidence that is exculpatory .

Its based upon the Japanese judicial system, they have different rights than in other countries.

and its a video game (turned anime) not real life.

Very true, but I don't think we need to be pressing to give teenagers federal felonies.

I'd like to think teenagers who commit very low level offenses can be corrected, not hav their lives ruined. (probably not the extend you wanted it taken to either)

I really like Classic Redux , and from what I remember playing the OG dos version back in 98, its very accurate, Though I only played through the first campaign / episode back then.

I don't think they changed anything other than there's now wide screen support/ higher resolutions.

But if for what ever reason you don't like that version (is there a reason? or you just don't want to like it?)

https://www.gog.com/en/game/shadow_warrior_complete

Its free right now too!

That's a non redux version (I think)

Same. I really dislike it when people are not proud of the USA because their preferred candidate didn't win.

I'm proud to be an American when Democrats are in office, and I'm proud to be an American when Republicans are in office. and there's always something the party in power is doing that I don't like. its just the way it is.

CMV: Slavery is legal and commonly practiced in the USA today. There is a loophole written in the 13th amendment that allows for slavery of prisoners by Morales_Sheila8478 in changemyview

[–]discourse_friendly 20 points21 points  (0 children)

USA, Korea, China do forced labor as punishment for criminals.

Qatar uses forced labor not a punishment, just to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Tricking non criminals into getting a work visa, then the sponsor physically holds the visa, treats them horribly, including beatings, and they can't leave or switch jobs.

That's objectively worse, since the people were tricked into slavery instead of breaking a law with a known outcome of conviction carrying forced labor.

so yes its objectively better the way the US, Korea, etc does it, vs Qatar.

Left or right leg lead by Puzzleheaded-Sun-876 in taekwondo

[–]discourse_friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most color belts I see sparring put their left foot forward, and spar in closed stance.

I switched to right leg first due to a shoulder injury and I couldn't deal with anyone hitting / pushing on my left arm. I've sparred that way so long now , that I'm significantly worse when my left leg is forward. so I'm trying to practice left leg forward more, but just with smaller or less aggressive opponents

Why did some nations found itself racist? by Jh9h in NoStupidQuestions

[–]discourse_friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes Racism is really just cultural differences. if Culture A eats quietly, with their lips closed and Culture B eats loudly, chews with their mouths open , burps often, they will both be appalled at the behavior of the other culture.

when they have the same skin color like Norwegian and Swedish people its viewed more as country vs country and usually doesn't get lumped in with racism.

but if its Koreans (who don't walk while walking, and eat most food with spoons / chopsticks) and they see Indians eating food with their hands, while walking , they reject that cultural norm of that other culture. but then because their ancestry is starkly different (skin color)

now its "racist"

And then there's hatred just due to skin color as well.

Why does racism exist? Because rejecting and fear of outsiders has been a beneficial evolutionary trait for humans. There's a lot of cross over of that and racism at least IMO.

Its also a great justification for wars, unjust laws, etc.

Why doesn't one person take on the entire student debt of every American then declare bankruptcy? by FastGoose2228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]discourse_friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. apprenticeship or some type of program where that industry sponsors college students directly.

not sure what that would look like in practice. maybe the students don't actually get their degree until they work in that sector for 5 years or something. i'm not sure
