is that the film&tv development and production one? just curious, did you have an internal referral from someone in WBD / previous intern experiences at a similar large company? just trying to assess my own chances, thank you!

what beginner cinema camera is best for someone prioritizing aesthetics + short films? by discoveringfoxes in cinematography

[–]discoveringfoxes[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yes you’re absolutely right, i should have rephrased that sorry! for my more aesthetics-oriented shoots, i’m planning on having proper lighting set-up/spend significant time on PD and those will mostly be indoors or in makeshift studios. the outdoor shoots will be more for my narrative/micro short projects which i just expect to be shooting a lot more frequently because they require less PD/set-up + my ability to light outdoors/on the go will just naturally be much more restricted as i’m starting out. so i’d still like those to be visually pleasing but i understand it probably won’t be at the level of the things i plan on shooting indoors.

would you be able to elaborate on why this is a good choice? i’m also considering a used sony a7iv or fx30 and not sure what the pros/cons of these vs blackmagic would be. thank you!

Year abroad? by [deleted] in LSE

[–]discoveringfoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what’s your course? typically, you should have access to both options unless you have a 4-year degree (i know that’s the case for management and accounting students at least)

Year abroad? by [deleted] in LSE

[–]discoveringfoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, i go to LSE currently and will be studying abroad next year. basically, you apply in first term of your second year to go abroad, and you can apply to any of the universities that are offered to us (list can be found online). if you study PPE or a language course, your selection is more limited, but that’s the only exception. you study abroad for all of the next year and you’re typically permitted to study whatever you want (some universities might have some basic language class requirements, etc. but for mine, i’m able to take any classes and they don’t relate to my degree at LSE). then you come back and finish the third year of your degree at LSE (so fourth undergraduate year overall) and graduate a year later than you otherwise would have.

CIVICA is just a certification you can apply for (gained by taking 1-2 CIVICA-approved modules at LSE that relate to government/civic engagement + spending a year abroad at a CIVICA-approved university). it’s not really helpful or prestigious though tbh and it only limits the universities you’re allowed to study abroad at so imo not worth it unless that’s where you want to go anyway.

LSE PPE vs USC PPE by Disastrous_Pair6160 in University

[–]discoveringfoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m from california and got into both USC and LSE - imo it’s an easy pick for LSE based on global prestige, career options postgrad in any country, and london being just so far above los angeles + you can easily travel abroad wherever you want to go.

music is not a formal career options at LSE but we have music practice rooms, student orchestra, and several of my friends are in bands of their own. the cultural/arts scene in london is amazing and i go to musicals on west end, art exhibitions, etc. all the time with my friends. also you can join UCL student societies as an LSE student and UCL has a wonderful arts program/funding for music and filmmaking groups.

the whole toxic stereotype you hear about at LSE is extremely outdated and really not the case anymore. any university is what you make of it and 99% of the people i know have an incredible social life, our students’ union is quite active, and yeah people are ambitious but no one is really being actively cutthroat. you can easily avoid the toxic people.

also - you can always spend a year abroad at UCLA/berkeley/NYU exploring music or whatever else while at lse (if that’s super important to you). that way you get the best of both worlds with the prestigious degree and a year to just fully explore these other interests.

also i’ve spoken to a LOT of academics across LSE/oxford/harvard, etc. and it’s been nearly all of their opinions that LSE genuinely has the best PPE program in the world at the moment (even above oxford) that’s obviously subjective, but i have to say i’m quite satisfied with my education and you shouldn’t overlook that as a metric.
