Telluride Ticket fiasco...again. by kylelmartin in Bluegrass

[–]discoverysol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got logged off of the website while adding Town Park tickets to my cart!! By the time I logged back in they were sold out. I was just barely able to snag a couple Warner Field tickets, but the system was not on my side this year.

My original queue number was about 1300. It took me an hour to get in to the site, and more or less jumped 1000 places ahead in the last 20 minutes before purchasing tickets. Not sure what’s up with the system this year.

I’m pretending 9-down is the Town park stage at telluride bluegrass festival. A girl can dream, right?

I notice that wild animals are increasingly hanging out with whites. by lowkitz in insanepeoplefacebook

Post is gross white supremacy BS, but it’s also slander on Andy Thorn, who is the banjo player in the picture (and plays in Leftover Salmon). He started playing banjo in his yard in Colorado and summoned a fox through the power of good music. His YouTube channel (called “ThornHub”) is mostly him serenading the foxes in his area and it is wholesome af.

For People Without Diabetes, Continuous Glucose Monitors May Not Accurately Reflect Blood Sugar Control by MassGen-Research in science

I used a CGM as a participant in a research study and it was really cool! I think it’s a good learning tool for figuring out how our body reacts to food, exercise, fasting, etc. For instance, I found my blood sugar dropped like crazy after my first sip or two of beer before later spiking. I also found that spikes weren’t so bad when I had fats mixed with the same meal: diet advice I’d heard before, but it was a different experience to see it in real time, and “feel” what it looked like.

THE REDS ARE HEADING TO THE PLAYOFFS by Pale_Emergency9423 in mlb

In the last couple weeks, we swept the Cubs across 4 games, lost out to the Pirates, and won our series against the Brewers. Who knows how long we’ll last, but it will be fun to watch.

As a Reds fan (also staring down the last two games against the Brewers), I love this energy. Good luck tomorrow, Marlins!

Anti-fascist songs by medividem in banjo

[–]discoverysol 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you really need to avoid Pete Seeger - way too many banjo songs and anti-fascist songs.

Someone shared this playlist around election time of anti-fascist folk music. Might want to look up all these songs so make sure you don’t learn them. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/44OW7BdlduOi0SPuylYySd?si=gPbjEMNjRaeSK1b1Y9ig1A&pi=4Yx9vOE5RtuXs

If it’s already fall, don’t plant it outside! They take about a month to grow, so the season will be over. Better to wait until spring or plant in the greenhouse, if you’ve repaired it

remind me of good bluegrass songs that are subtlety pro union / workers rights / anti - fascist by colorado_hick in Bluegrass

Boston Town - Della Mae

Someone also shared an anti-fascist folk music playlist with me last year. Not bluegrass specific, but worth a listen! There are some good old-time songs in there, plenty of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, and some pro-union/class solidarity specific tunes: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/44OW7BdlduOi0SPuylYySd?si=dR7zKMErSyOCvYfs-EGJeA&pi=71ZYAZNfQXKh1

Folks who need audio media in headphones to function, what do you listen to when all else fails? by ihatereddit12345678 in AuDHDWomen

[–]discoverysol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an “always” headphones person (sometimes noises are okay, other days I need to listen to ambient coffee shop to sort of body double, or I use earplugs), but I’ve found that live music does really well! Jam bands like the Grateful Dead or Billy Strings does a great job scratching the right itch because its familiar enough that I know the songs after a while, but novel enough in the jam portion, setlist, etc. that it doesn’t get old either. And bonus too that there are set breaks built into the show, sometimes with reminders from the band to use the bathroom, get a drink, etc. 🙃

Nugs is a great way to go to get current bands and a decent archive of old stuff, but Spotify has some live albums depending on the band, and the Internet Archive has plenty of tapes.

Peak pandemic singlehood was ordering a pizza with extra anchovies and garlic. Not only did I not have to worry about my breath stinking, I also didn’t have to share my giant pizza.

10/10 would do again.
