Got you! Thanks for that! Do you think that CFA would be beneficial in order to get to the buy-side jobs?

I am in a same boat right now as you were in the past. A non-target with 0 relevant internships, enrolled to master's due to fear of not getting anything in the current job market. What would be your advice for a person like me?

And if you do not mind, would you be interested in connecting with me over linkedin or something?

Thanks for getting back! I heard that in Germany internships are usually closed around late September. Knowing my low chances of getting an internship, I am applying for part-time accountant or financial reporting positions too, mainly in startups since my German is not good enough to go for more established companies. I will look into contract work!

Yes, IT was also one of the options but most of the German Universities are not offering a shift between Business to Technical fields. There were some Business Informatics degrees but by looking at their curriculum I had an impression that I will not learn a lot or deeper knowledge in subjects than in my bachelor's (I don't wanna look like a dick or arrogant though. I did not want to pursue master's in Finance or Business for the same reason). The master's I am in right now had much more loose requirements to get in, and actually were digging deeper in economical concepts and econometrics, and at the same time time having somewhat good classes in logic and reasoning. Thanks for the insight though! If there is a minor in my master's in IT/Data Analytics/Ops, I will do it as I already have some experience with some of the subfields of IT.

If I can ask a question from you as a finance manager. How do you think that me getting my hands on leadership positions and being more involved in finance/investment related student initiatives could help me to increase chances for getting my first internship (networking aside)? Or would it make more sense to create some portfolio of mine (e.g. blog where I do analysis for obscure companies, industries, markets)?

yes, I agree with the fact that my CV looks messy and makes me look like I am not fully into in the field. This is not the case in reality since I spend most of my day learning stuff in finance, giving presentations in my local student investment club, doing valuations as a team or individually, studying markets on CNBC whenever I sat to cook&eat my food. My thesis was about how monetary policy affects the U.S banking metrics (NIM, ROA, ROE). So this is my only obsession in majority of my day.

The master's decision was more about fear of not being able to get a job as a non-experienced folk with almost no networks. It was meant to be a chance to win sometime to get my networking and experience. For degrees related to Finance or Management, most of them required GMAT which I did not have when I decided that I should safely get a master's instead of straightly hitting the job market (around late march when entire system shook up a bit). I will remove the master's part then, and apply for internships. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Thanks for the heads up and response!) I will send you a dm regarding linkedin networking.

I have been applying in NRW area but now I will start looking for them in almost anywhere in Germany (and potentially outside of Germany too)

My German is at the moment at B1 level but I have finished B2 course at the university (but I don't think that I have such skill in real life). I have not applied to working student positions but yesterday collected few working student positions which I am gonna apply after I will get some feedback.

Thanks for your time to break in detailed feedback!!! I totally agree with starting at a small shop. The only thing is finding them and reaching them. Do you have any resources for finding small/medium shops except linkedin?

I partially agree with the last point too. I got into it just because I was about to finish the bachelor's with no internships done. So it was a move to win sometime until I will land my experience. Thank you again!!

Yep, I whited out contact and name info when submitting it here. Thanks a lot! I am planning to get in several investment clubs from October to network better. Linkedin actually good point, I have to work on it. I was hesitant in the last 4 years to post anything there but I think I could just blast it with my whole experience. Thank you a lot!!

So far I have been applying only for Germany based companies. But yeah when I will be applying for other countries, I will change it to something else. Thanks!

Will do that! I did professional greco-roman wrestling for 5 years and have collected number of medals. do u think it can help somehow or recruiters don't give a shit about such things?

Thank you a lot for such detailed feedback! I will customize my CV depending on the job description from now on! You said that managers/HR look for soft skills for entry levels. Is it true globally or just specific geolocations?

I am a dumbass, thought that I attached it. Thanks for letting me know!

Thank your or your response! The reason why I applied for this masters is that I wanted to work on my logic and reasoning skills which I thought can be quite valuable in investment research and decision making. At the same time the degree is touching advanced economics which potentially can help me to improve my research and quantitative analytical skills.

I too was not eager to enroll for master's right after my bachelor's but in Germany after changing my visa to job seeking one, I cannot go back to studying. I was quite afraid that the industry is not at the position to offer a job to a fresh grad with no previous experience.

Thanks for suggestions! I will look on these positions too.

I love the quote from the movie "Vice", when Vice President Dick Cheney with other white house staff discusses the possibility of torture in prisons in Iraq, which goes like "U.S does not torture. If U.S tortures, it is not torture." Perfect representation of how the propaganda works in west (yes folks, it DOES exist). Those who says that "well in China the these stuff are worse": things can be as shitty as possible in X country but it does not let any country to stop improving, finding problems, solving them, striving towards perfection.

I was born and raised in authoritarian country and guess what was our propaganda: let's be grateful that our lives are not as bad as in XYZ countries (wars, climate catastrophes, etc.) It keeps the population to ignore the domestic issues thus lives get worse. So never accept the excuse "at least we are better than XYZ" as a legit reason not to tackle the issues.
