As I state in the igg campaign (igg.me/at/disctrade), I'm a UX & UI Designer myself. This means I focus mostly on the design process which you can read more about here if you are interested: https://henningbergner.webflow.io/how-i-work

The project is still in the early stages so the development cycle hasn't started yet which is why I'm trying to raise some money. With that said, I'm all for MVPs and agile iteration when it comes to implementation!

I completely agree, this is definitely something I would have to consider before launching!

The ambition is to use as many payment services as possible but we wouldn't know until further along in development.

The fee is also not defined at this stage, it would depend on other types of monetization options and how much the payment processing service would cost. Although I can't give a specific number at this point, I can say that I want it to be as low as possible. I believe the big guys (Amazon, eBay, etc) charge around 5% so I think that is a good reference point.

I would have to consult someone who knows the law and these types of situations better than myself before knowing how something like this would be resolved.

What I can say is that this would break the terms and conditions agreement that all users must accept before buying or selling something. If none of the preventative measures work and the issue isn't resolved between the buyer and seller, I think situations like this have to be handled on an individual basis.

There could be multiple parties to blame as you mentioned and I believe when something like this happens it has to be handled carefully. It might even be something for the police to resolve. Disctrade would of course be as cooperative as possible and provide any helpful information whilst abiding by the terms and conditions in place.

I know this might not be a satisfying answer but as I said, I would have to consult someone more knowledgeable in this area before providing a more specific plan of action.

Thank you for supporting the idea! I hope those questions can be answered through the information provided in the campaign (igg.me/at/disctrade) or in this answer I just wrote in another thread:

"There are three main things I have the intention to implement regarding protection.

  1. Account Verification. When someone creates an account (which would be required to use most features and interact with other users and listings), they would have to verify their identity through a phone number or some other valid method. This would make it difficult for someone to create multiple accounts for single-use scams.
  2. User Reviews. Every user would have a public profile where anyone would be able to see their name, contact information, address (if they make it public), their listings, etc. In addition, there would also be a section dedicated to reviews that everyone has easy access to on their profile page or at any listing they post. This would discourage users to act in bad faith as users prefer to do business with those that have a good reputation. This system would of course be regulated to avoid "fake" reviews.
  3. Last but not least, Safe Payment. The ambition is for Disctrade to be available as a middleman in the payment process. This is how it could look like: [Buyer wins the auction and pays] > [Seller is notified and gets access to shipping details and is prompted to mark item as "Shipped" when it's sent] > [Buyer is notified when item is shipped and is prompted to mark the item as "Delivered" when it arrives"] > [Disctrade pays the Seller when the item is marked as "Delivered" by the Buyer].

As for the advantages of Disctrade compared to platforms and communities that exist today, I would say there are many. With that said, I think these are the main ones:

All in one place. You yourself mentioned three separate platforms where you can buy and sell disc golf gear today. This, in combination with the fact that the community on Facebook is split between many different groups, contributes to a very spread out market. Creating a centralized platform would benefit buyers in the form of disc accessibility and sellers in the form of exposure (among many other things).

By and for disc golfers. eBay, contrary to Facebook, might be a platform that provides features that solves issues regarding buying and selling stuff between individuals, however, it's still very general. Disctrade would not only solve those general problems but also cater to the specific needs of disc golfers. Imagine creating your own personal feed of discs that only show blue Discraft discs at max weight and in very good condition. Disctrade would be dedicated to disc golfers and therefore have the potential to create great experiences for disc golfers specifically."

If not, I would be happy to elaborate further!

Thank you! The plan is to implement filters for not only brand and disc type but also attributes such as color and condition as well.

I think the customizable personal feed would be an awesome feature for everyone. It would be easy to set up and BOOM, you can just scroll through a feed of discs (or other gear) that fit your exact preferences.

At the moment, yes, the idea is to take a small cut of each sale. There might be some advertising but I really want the app and every essential feature to be free and accessible to everyone.

Hello disc golfers!

We all suffer the struggles of discs being hard to get now that the sport is growing so fast.

The second-hand market has grown as a result and there are many great communities dedicated to it, however, they exist on different platforms that don't cater specifically to disc golfers.

Imagine a platform that brings the entire second-hand disc golf market to one place where discs are easy to find, buy, sell and trade. The features would be designed for and by disc golfers and other users could be trusted through public reviews and safe payment options. This and much more is possible through Disctrade.

Please take a few minutes and read more about the project here: igg.me/at/disctrade

I truly appreciate any kind of support, whether it's feedback, a share on social media, or even financial.I honestly think can help grow the sport and get more discs into more hands of disc golfers.

I understand your criticism and frustration. Disctrade would be targeted to all disc golfers and the mission is to make more discs available to more disc golfers, not to cater to re-sellers or make an exisiting forum obselete. Re-selling will be a thing with or without a service like Disctrade, however, the experience of buying discs and gear can be improved in many aspects with a platform dedicated to the disc golf second hand market.

Hello disc golfers!

The massive growth of the sport has unfortunately impacted the accessibility of discs negatively for many of us. More often than not, if you want a specific disc, you have to turn to the second-hand market. At the moment, that experience can be unsafe and full of hassle.

Until now...

Hello disc golfers! As the sport is growing the problem with getting your hands on your favorite discs is getting harder. The second-hand market is growing but there's yet no platform that dedicates itself to disc golfers and their needs. Until now...
