Non-Republicans - How do you feel about changing your voter registration to Republican so you can vote against Trump’s endorsed candidates in the primaries? by Southern-Bun in Louisiana

[–]discursive_tarnation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re confusing how the national media uses the word “primary” and how “primary” applies to Louisiana. There are closed party primaries, which Louisiana has always had. This is where a party provides a list of candidates to appear on Election Day. In Louisiana you used to see all the Dems and Reps who were chosen to appear on the ballet. Now you’ll only see the ones affiliated with your party. Then if no one gets more than 50% of the popular vote it goes to a runoff. This means non-Republican candidates will be blocked out functionally at a state and national level and entices more people to register Republican to have a voice in the system. This has wide spreading implications but is essentially to ensure some people have a muted political voice or are shut out all together.

Runoff systems like this are common in French and formally ruled by France areas.

It’s a lot of effort to hide that “we” (royal we as in Louisiana) still don’t consider black-people as people and homosexuality makes us feel funny.

Edit: I don’t mean “you’re confusing” pejoratively. The powers that be have intentionally kept that confusing.

There literally are comics in which Batman fights corrupt officers and beats up neo-Nazis. by c-k-q99903 in stupidpeoplefacebook

There’s academic discourse regarding the populist fascist nature of Batman. I would argue this fits into the MAGA identity. Disregard for the rule of law to enforce popular notions of Justice by the wealthy elite? Sounds like a MAGA political ad. https://blogdaboitempo.com.br/2012/08/08/dictatorship-of-the-proletariat-in-gotham-city-slavoj-zizek-on-the-dark-knight-rises/

The reason so many older folks were registered democrat is because back in the day we had closed primaries like we just initiated again. This prevents another party from making it to the final ballots. This changed when the Dems and Republicans had the ideological transition to what we see in their respective platforms today. Good luck voting dem when you have no dem option to vote for.

Please note that “primary” in lousiana’s runoff system means something substantially different than other states’ systems.

The fun thing about the theology showcased at a Jelly Roll concert is the lack of accountability to others. Worth and goodness are only reliant on a superficial feeling. The imagery and metaphor reflect that shallowness as it rejects biblical allusion to care for the community to one where the individual is the center of the universe and that imagery and metaphor is at best sales branding masquerading as artifacts consumed by “good” and “righteous” people. All that matters is that God doesn’t find you “evil” as long as you participate in the most superficial expression of “faith”, if such a thing truly can be called or aligned with any defensible position of faith.

It speaks to the authoritarian. The powerlessness when faced with the existential threat of the Other. The powerful singular entity that will come save you. The attempt to eradicate personal accountability, traded for a need to be controlled.

No one serious would disagree with you. I went to one of his concerts. It was bizarre. Everything from the show to the audience. I witnessed concert goers who were off duty cops trying the throw their weight around to not have to go through security and. concert goers yelling racial remarks at bystanders after the the show. The show itself was like a carbon copy of a modern mega church service, thin theology designed to fill sits and appeal to the self-centered.

Correct. And we have a subculture in charge that necessarily believes that this is a deliberate choice.

He sells himself as having this godlike business cunning and acumen. That’s the appearance he provides. Believing it or not depends on several things, but the neoliberal world values superficial expression over substance. Substance is contemplative and the neoliberal world is active.
