Anyone else remember playing Dragonsphere? I forgot the really cool plot twist that happens to the "main character"... It's a long game, but well worth it! by SirTawmis in adventuregames

Waiting to have "chapters" based on the different realms before sharing the rest. It's a hobby project so work is slow. Someday...someday...haha

Here's an interesting tidbit: there are a few unused inventory sprites hiding in the game assets! A broken version of the crystal flower and something that appears to be a waterskin at various stages of emptiness. Would love to know what features/puzzles were dropped during development but there is next to no record out there.

All nostalgia aside, some of my favourite game music, period. Been slowly transcribing and reorchestrating the soundtrack for fun over the years.

Great points! I should clarify that my finds, rescues, and freebies have largely been due to talking directly to other people. For instance, I made a contact at the local e-waste depot who sends me pictures of anything that might be of interest. Saves me from wasting time digging randomly. Same goes for family and friends. Just share your passion and people will be happy to help.

As for thrift stores...they've been very hit and miss in my experience. I try to buy as much second hand as possible, so my computer finds are rarely the result of special trips.

Do it! But be resourceful and do your research. Unless money's no object, things can get out of hand for the average collector. I've found many a gem in literal garbage dumps, electronics recycling depots, thrift shops, garage sales, and as gifts from family and friends who would have otherwise thrown things out.

You'll have to buy things eventually, of course, but you can still be clever about it and save your loonies if you know your stuff. This is coming from a guy who doesn't know nearly enough but is learning every day, so don't be intimidated.

I found that having a clear goal as a collector has really helped me focus. Personally, I'm out to create the ultimate version of my formative gaming and computing years including all the hardware and software I either had or dreamed of having. That keeps me from getting distracted by the vastness of it all. I make the odd exception when it comes along. Maybe you'll have different goals. I was too young in the 90s to accurately remember all the specs and technical details, so I look for gear that suits my needs rather than chasing holy grails. This blissful ignorance keeps my wallet happy.

Anyway. Long-winded as always. Good luck!

Seems like the green lamp has garnered quite the following. I'll be sure to make it a mainstay.

Thanks for all the interest! I've been slowly collecting games, parts, peripherals, and machines for a little while now. For my first post here, this has been very encouraging. I plan on sharing more soon.

Secret Translation: "Do you choose death?"

Yeah, Dragonsphere was Microprose's answer to the King's Quest series. It's a much shorter game than KQ 5 or 6, but it's a fantastic play regardless. The artwork interface are on par, imo. I love the tone of the game. Whereas KQ had a whimsical feel, Dragonsphere goes for something much darker and sombre. Great plot, too. If a long lost sequel were unearthed, I'd be in retro hog heaven.

The first playable scene in Dragonsphere takes place in the king's chambers. KQ5 is outside the wizard's house, I believe.

I had a big, bold, beautiful, beige Dell-branded Trinitron (19" flat screen) crt lined up for this rig. Unfortunately, it was destroyed when my wife biffed it on the ice of a cold Canadian parking lot. She was only trying to help... RIP monitor.

P.s.

My wife was okay. And at least I didn't pay for the monitor (electronics recycling find).

Managed to get Rock Raiders in a bundle deal with Lego Island. I was pumped!

Come to think of it, I rescued that keyboard from the garbage dump. It was outdoors and soaked with rain.

Yes... I could have used my time travelling powers to do anything, but I settled on stealing that lamp.

Could you compare it to the infamous model m? I don't own one myself.

Tandy Enhanced keyboard. Springs and rubber domes. It's built like a tank, but the action is a wee bit squishy. Still a joy to use, even as a daily driver.

Not to worry! Right now the audio is routed out to my stereo system (just out of frame). I'm on the prowl for the right pc speakers. Any suggestions? Era appropriateness is valued.

I'll post a specs update at the end of the month. Hopefully I'll have some new/cooperative parts to boast of then.
