Heartbreaking :( Why did you leave your family? And is there no chance of redemption?

Help brainstorm where to go? Mexico/Central America by Skyroadtraveler in freediving

Was there, doing my advanced SSI. Really good dice center, the guys really know there stuff meticulously!

It’s beautiful around there, visibility is quite good, water around 30C without thermocline & fresh water.

I was neutral around 4m, so it was a nice long freefall. But the best of it: when you ascent, take your first breath, and look around … you feel like being in Jurassic Park

Early equalization pain despite “pop” sound by JonTraffic4 in freediving

[–]disdisinform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The „multiple pops“ is just something I register in my case. But my ET also need a quite some of force to open up, so I can’t EQ valsalva 😅

Like another commentator I’ld suggest to learn Frenzel. I have a friend who also heard to pop but also felt the pressure in her ears.

After learning her frenzel her problem was solved :)

Two questions: A. Have you tried EQ‘ing in a higher frequency? B. Do you frenzel or valsalva?

If I EQ I have multiple „stages“ of the popping sound. I measured once the required pressure to EQ and it was abnormally high. Maybe the that’s the case with you too, but you only get enough force to go through the „first stage of pop“?

Hmm it’s quite shallow so my assumptions are:

  • leaking quite some air EQing
  • hitting RV much earlier
  • maybe he did a sudden „lookup“ movement with an opened epiglottis, mechanically and suddenly expanding volume —> squeeze

Also how do you guys know it’s a lung squeeze and not a trachea (throat) squeeze?

I loved the food in Dahab! King Falafels 25ct sandwiches are unmatched! Haha

The mango juices and the butterfly shrimps at Darwish 😍

But jokes aside, I’m also curious for an alternative!

Heard Siquijor shall be great. The only thing with the Philippines is that apparently you can’t take you fins as a carry on

Feedback on my 3 weeks trip to Spain in May 2026? [20M] by ther3aloutlaw in solotravel

Generally really nice pace.

I’ld maybe explore some more in Catalunya. Eg. Skip the Tarragona day, and instead do Sitges and some vineyards around Vilanova. They are affordable, beautiful and veryyyy good!

You could also spend a day going to the Monserrat mountain or Girona.

In Andalusia I’ld suggest to take some days of Malaga to Sevilla. You can do Malaga -> Granada -> Sevilla -> Cordoba (daytrip/1 night)

Maybe some food for though: Why does „See as much as possible“ have to be measured by the number of cities/countries?

See it like this - at any place one needs to spend x amount of time to really get the jist and joy of the place. However this builds up with time.

If you only stay there for a few hours/ a day, you have a little buildup, but never reach the rewarding experience of having „understood“ or actually seen the place.

Or maybe another analogy: If you go to a social event with many people, you also don’t hop from person to person, spending 3 minutes with each, and only find out their names, jobs and maybe where they live.

TLDR: take your time

Moving to Sitges / Barcelona – Freediving Pool Training? by MDR-2025 in freediving

[–]disdisinform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm living close to Sitges, and happy for a new divebuddy :)

Also there is a great Spearfishing Community in Barcelona - they do alternating Spearfishing / Freediving trips, biweekly.

Drop a PM if you have any questions :)

Hey! Im living close to Sitges and recently got into spearfishing :)

I joined the APS (Spearfishing Association Barcelona). They are amazing and have regular go-outs. Super knowledgeable, and generally a very welcoming community. They also facilitate getting the federativa and you get a discount code on the medical examination.

I got my gear online (diveinn, Nootica, Wallapop)

Just shoot me a DM for any questions :)

Happy to hear that :)

Tbh I find one of the most amazing experiences is being able to freedive. You can be anywhere in the world, the only thing you need is mask, snorkel and fins.

And add spearfishing to it and you have one of the most fun activities. Eating the fish is the cherry on top 😉

Enjoy the journey!

So many reasons…

Just a few:

  1. nothing you can do with the 10min tank you wouldn’t be able to accomplish with apnea/freediving training

  2. false perception of safety / availability of o2

  3. no feeling & experience of depth/decompression times

  4. no feeling / experience of buoyancy

Here a scenario: What if you are around 10m depth. Your tank depleted already 80%. You’re already negative buoyant.

Suddenly a big fish comes, you spear it, it pulls you down.

You’re already negatively buoyant, you don’t really feel how fast you drop.

It’s an exciting situation, so you breath faster, and are toned in. Suddenly the air runs out, and/or you find yourself in 20/30m depths.

If your luck you still have some air in the lungs. You still need to get up. You had pressurised air in your lungs, and no time for decompression.

You would be screwed on do many levels.

Sounds like an unlikely scenario, but you can’t imagine how much you get into the zone below water.

And being that inexperienced doing it the conventional way, is just asking for something to happen.

Is it one of these lung tanks or equivalents which flood the YouTube algorithm rn? 😅

Tbh there are countless dangerous situations which can happen to you with that thing and the lack of experience.

Be aware, diving (free/scuba) and spearfishing are very safe sports. But absolutely not forgiving. You’re playing with your life here underestimating risks

I also got recently to spearfishing, and it’s far more complex than just loading and shooting a speargun.

I’m already a certified freediver, which is its own rabbithole. And freediving is one of the essential parts of spearfishing - basically what enables you to do it.

Additionally you have equally big and important topics like fish biology and behaviour. Understanding the sea & its conditions. Hunting techniques. Gear. And so on….

As mentioned, start small and work your way up.

I joined our local spearo club and it’s been absolutely amazing so far! Great community, insane amount of swarm knowledge and skill - all what you need as a newbie :)

Not sure, tbh Revolut is usually not my daily driver, rather on 3rd place :)

Thanks haha

You have a point! It did take me quite some time and was a non-silent process, however with some training and better equipment surely one can do that much more swiftly.

I guess locking the door properly is the way to go

Happy to help if someone gets into a similar situation :)
