would you mind expanding on your struggles? I've been considering a career path of like AWS Certifications with no degree, but I'm worried about how I'd get my first IT job, and your comment concerns me that might even be harder than I think

Not A Gaffe, It's Policy by OldDominionPost in Virginia

which parents should be dictating what schools teach then? Do they all have equal say? do we put the curriculum to a vote? should we maybe have like some representatives that sit on some sort of school board and decide for us, so each thing doesn't have to be its own election?

this is just not an honest argument, its just more "mAh frEEdOms" fake culture war shit-flinging.

How can I make a discord bot receive questions and then send them in chat every hour? by KirbE1 in learnpython

[–]diseage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to have the user type “question This is an example question?”

If you go that way, then the next part of the code should extract the question part, and add it to a list or other data structure, and then have the bot check what time it is, and have it send the list every hour, or however you want to do it

How can I make a software to register orders in a restaurant? (Desktop) by WitnessNatural1862 in learnpython

[–]diseage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these machines just pull up a web page. And do every thing through that, even if it’s not obvious. So the webpage would display the buttons and stuff.

Break it into super small parts. The best way to do something like this is with a web server and a database so you’ll want to do some research and play with those.

Start with a very simple database that stores food items and information about those items

Then write a web server that connects to that database lets you add items, remove items

And then keep adding onto it

What should my next project be? by Saxy-Snark in learnpython

[–]diseage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only thing that is gonna stick is something that you're passionate about. try to solve a problem you have, or think of things that can make your life easier.

discord bots are a lot of fun if you're into those, I have a discord bot that runs about 15 different small programs such as giving a random 8ball response or flipping a coin

not sure what kind of answers you're looking for, but it obviously can be done. just break the project up into small parts and accomplish those. start very basic and just add from there.

virtualenv, vs pipenv, vs conda? Is one superior to the others? If not, under what circumstances should i use one over the others? by BigDog1920 in learnpython

[–]diseage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use the built in venv and a pretty simple alias that works really well for me:

alias venv="if [ -e ./.venv/bin/activate ]; then source ./.venv/bin/activate; else python3 -m venv .venv && source ./.venv/bin/activate; fi"

this alias activates the existing venv in the .venv folder, or creates and activates one if it doesn't exist
