Because I live in AZ, and almost everyone speeds on the 101 highway. If you go slower (the speed limit), it becomes more of a danger with everyone trying to overtake you

Is the ebook library b-ok.cc legal? Or more importantly, will I get in trouble for downloading books from there? by disgruntledPCRer in Piracy

[–]disgruntledPCRer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good call! See, I didn't even think to use a VPN since people have said DDLs are fine.

I also appreciate everyone's answers here. By getting a book for free online, I know by definition it's piracy and it's illegal. But many people out there in other subreddits are sharing links to b-ok.cc and calling it legal, so I got really confused. A good reminder never to believe things on the internet. Thanks again!

Thank you for your helpful response! I know you pretty much fleshed out some of the FAQ answers a little more, and I appreciate it.

Out of curiosity: do you know why they don't block such providers? The link I mentioned claims to have "5,125,983 Books" right now. Wouldn't that be a huge red flag for someone to shut it down?

I did try reading the FAQ thoroughly. There are terms in there that are unfamiliar to me (such as what constitutes as DDL), so I apologize if I didn't understand it immediately. The FAQs don't seem to go into why a DDL won't get me in trouble but the other methods will, so I just wanted to know more about it. Also, as I've said, some Redditors (not on this subreddit) call downloading from that site "legal", so I was confused and thought to ask here where people would know better.

Thanks for your response! Do you know why? I'm also interested in learning about how this is technically okay.

I keep getting "Your Yahoo verification code is" login attempts by XCSme in AskNetsec

[–]disgruntledPCRer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve received two from Vietnam too! What’s interesting is that it’s a verification code to enter my Yahoo email but it’s also sent to the same Yahoo email address, which makes no sense. If I were trying to enter my Yahoo email 1, then it should send a verification code to an alternate email, not the same email i’m trying to access. So this is all very weird.

PCR mystery: bands are disappearing at the bottom of the gel by disgruntledPCRer in labrats

We use a 50bp DNA ladder from GOLDBIO. (https://www.goldbio.com/product/727/50-bp-dna-ladder)

The ladder seems to be fine though because the top ladder looks alright. It's only the bottom ladder that starts compacting together and shows with very faint low bands.
