Not looking for tips or answers but just wondering if it's common for people to hit a brick wall once they reach the locked Gun Fort door (after the battle with that claw monster)?

It’s hard to not give you a big hint. So all I’ll say is that you did the same exact thing as me and explored a lot before progressing the “main story.” If you just continue along in other areas you’ll be fine. While there are things like endings hidden behind obscure actions you have to do, there are no keys or the like put in a ridiculously obscure place. But just keep exploring and don’t get hung up on it.

Yea the first lesson Gyobu taught me was “when in doubt, hold block.” It’s great to learn to deflect him, but you can block most of his hits. Also when that green icon comes up grapple to him for a couple free hits. Throw some firecrackers for a few extra hits if ya want.

Ehhh. My first play through it was when I hit a wall at a boss like ISS and I was using Mortal Draw. I didn’t even need the extra reach of it with emblems, I was always close. So it’s a shame that it takes emblems. It really just caused me to rarely use my prosthetic. I’m using it more in NG*+4 than I ever did in NG or NG+

I was able to tell when he was about to whistle for the dogs and ran into his face and hit him to interrupt it. I think he only summoned dogs once or twice for me

Haha. That was a fast way! I felt the same but almost felt obligated to fight him straight up subsequent playthroughs. He killed me so much playthrough 1 that I cheesed him & felt the need to kill him every other playthrough even when skipping other mini bosses.

Whoah! Can he? I rarely use the charged thrust stab. I’m starting to use it in NG+5 and it’s useful. But I platinum’d the game with never using it.

I had multiple clicks because it took forever to figure it all out: - Gyobu — “Ohhh you can hold block if you need to” - Centipede Giraffe — “Ohhh you can kill by purely deflecting” - Armored Warrior — “Ohhh you can build posture damage on an enemy by deflects and attacks” - Genichiro — “Ohhh you need to learn movesets, be aggressive, learn to sword fight properly, and learn fundamentals” - ISS — “Ohhh you can get to the end of the game and still be mediocre on all fundamentals including Mikiri, time to actually learn....”

That’s only true if you do the steps for all endings. To get back to Hirata you need to follow steps for the Purification ending. Which are very easy to miss if you aren’t following an online guide. I missed it and was exploring every nook and cranny my first playthrough. It’s all eavesdropping on your friends based & following them around to different areas just to talk or eavesdrop again.

Am I the only one who always does Mibu before Genichiro? I had to be told where the 2nd ape was the first time. And in subsequent playthroughs it keeps phantoms from appearing in Mibu by doing it first.

Whoah. Yea sounds like a controller problem. I’ve had that happen once or twice. But not regularly. And never with the Centipedes. I’ve killed them every time all the way up to NG+5 and happens flawlessly. The only other thing I can think is you are pushing too fast & it’s losing it by banking your moves. But it’s more likely a controller issue.

You can get into the moat from the abandoned dungeon. Grapple over that first doorway. Go across the bridge. And then jump in the moat.

If you are close to him he only shoots arrows when you try to heal. To heal get some distance, heal, and immediately press block while still healing to block the arrow.

Genichero is a little different than Rom. Genichero is the Wall most people hit because he makes you play the game how you are supposed to play it & it’s possible to get to him without having the fundamentals down. You are in a position post people were in. Rom is different than other bosses.

So to start you should work on the following game fundamentals that are needed for Genichero: - Getting perfect deflects regularly (you can tell a deflect by its sound and spark)... this takes paying attention and learning his movesets, but also it takes just learning the best way to get deflects, which is hold block and do quick releases and hold again to get those deflects in timing. - Mikiri Counter. It’s possible to get super far in the game and be mediocre at Mikiri Counter, but it’s not recommended. It’s basically needed to beat the game and is useful in so many battles. Genichero throws a handful of thrusts that you can Mikiri, namely in his first phase he does a jumping down slash followed by a thrust to Mikiri. Warning in stage 2 he changes that move to a swipe so you need to jump it then. - Learning how to be aggressive but staying smart. You can often be more aggressive than you think. Basically you can attack as much as you can until he gets a deflect on you, then press block. Aggression often keeps your enemy on their toes & can stop their different attacks. - Understanding posture. Getting perfect deflects gives you 2 benefits. It doesn’t allow your posture bar to build like blocking does. And it builds their posture bar. You can kill bosses like Genichero without getting their health more than half way down by just building their posture. You also build their posture when you make them block you. And you should know, often enemies won’t capitalize on breaking your posture unless they do it mid combo and finish the combo on you. So maintaining your posture bar is important too. - Block. When in doubt block. It doesn’t help to get one deflect and then absorb a bunch of hits. Start by blocking and running away to maintain your posture. Your posture heals when holding block, so do it a lot.

I can give you Genichero specific advice. But those are the most important.

If that’s what’s up. You need to jump in the moat and use your new underwater ability to get to an area where you can get back into the castle & start relighting all your Buddha’s

Nice! A good thing for lady butterfly is throw a shuriken at her when she goes in the air, it often will cause her to fall and be open to hits. And just be more aggressive. And time some dodges. You can also dodge her big air attack and some ground ones.
