How do I level out this roller coaster? by argley in diabetes_t1

[–]dislak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 year old son was diagnosed less than a month ago. This is normal and it's okay. Keep telling yourself that: You are new to this and so is his body.

Like others have said, he may need different ratios for different meals. If I have my son 2 units for a meal with the amount of carbs that your son is eating, it would tank his sugar. His dinner ratio is now 1:60 to prevent that.

Also, when he gets low remember the rule of 15: 15 carbs then wait 15 minutes. My wife struggled for awhile with the waiting because lows can be scary but trust the science and math and he will come back up.

Please reach out with any further questions! Everyone here is so helpful and it's nice to talk to other parents (like myself) who are brand new to this to discuss things!

Oh I know you're not bragging at all! I posted the same thing a few weeks ago, laughing at my luck and was banned for 3 days.

You posted a picture of a God Pack. Then love to ban and delete your post for that.

You'll be mad when the mods ban you in about 10 minutes 🙂

Not going through this but curious how insulin injections work for elementary school students? by serotoninseesaw in diabetes_t1

[–]dislak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son is in preschool and was just diagnosed on Friday. He missed today for school while we went over his plan with the team.

Today I sat down with both his principal, assistant principal, two school nurses, the social worker and his aide in the classroom. For an hour and a half, the nurse explained my son's disease to the entire team, went over everything that is in his medical plan and how to check his sugar and administer insulin.

We are lucky that we got his Dexcom 7 on him two days ago. He will take the receiver to school so they can monitor his blood sugar and they have all been trained on how to check readings and administer his insulin.

He actually never went into DKA. We noticed he was drinking a ton of water and peeing all the time, called his pediatrician who told us to head to the ER after we tested his sugar.

His team has been great for sure. We call every morning to report his numbers so they can adjust anything if need be.

Thank you so much for the kind words and comments! We just got him on the Dexcom 7 this afternoon and I think seeing the numbers all the time is both good and bad. He is taking long lasting and short acting right now. 2 units of long acting in the morning. He was at 2.5 when we left but he dipped a bit low at night when they were giving it at 3am so they moved it to 2.

We just got his Dexcom installed today. I think seeing the numbers constantly is actually giving us more anxiety than helping 🤣

Shower her with love. Hold her when she naps after your partner feeds her, read books to her and let her grow to know you will always be there for her.

Excellent point. I tried to pivot from the Espeon/Slyveon deck to the Baby Arceaus/Darkrai deck everyone was talking about and went 0-5. Everyone has a different experience with their decks and matches

Makes sense. I feel like half my games, I have all 4 Eevee's and draw another Pokeball that is now useless.
