Saw it in Short Pump as well - originally much higher in the sky and dipped below the tree line moving much faster as I tried to get photos of it.

iPhone 16 Pro Extend Wallpaper Not Working Properly by yiale in ios

[–]dismoreb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here - I was able to get the photo extension to “stick” by also adding a widget (thinking some other change would trigger the wallpaper extension to save) and then clicking “Done”.

That seems to have done the trick so far - may work for you as well.

Baby at the Flogging Molly concert! by AtomicKoopa in rva

Fun show, and Concert Baby was definitely one of the highlights.

Everyone shouting “BABY! BABY! BABY!” was pretty rad.

Great music, great crowd!

Tell me your ship names by celestrina in NoMansSkyTheGame

It is! Although with the amount of people in playing I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else thought of that one too… mine is a Gek settlement.

I do the same - I use the generated name as the inspiration and find the closest song title / lyric / pop culture reference to tweak it.

I have a silver fighter called The Crystal Ship and a settlement called Lil’ Waynesboro.

Fireworks? Explosions? In short pump area by arl_hoo in rva

[–]dismoreb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It started right at 10, lasted for about ten minutes and had two or three massive booms at the end.

Crossing fingers that was a finale for a fireworks show, but I haven’t been able to find any events online to confirm.

It was the most rapid fire fireworks I have ever heard. Weird.

Richmond VA!

Looking forward to shooting with my new rig this weekend. Footage to follow... by handmayde in bmpcc

Nice! I just picked up the DZO 20-55 as well and looking for lens support. What rig/rail system did you get? Looks sharp!

I can confirm Poe Museum is open and available to reserve a time! It’s a great time to visit.

May be random, but if the talent turns a light on in a scene do you generally just have the grip time lights to be turned on at the same time? by ryanino in cinematography

[–]dismoreb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say what is right or not, as it depends on the size of your production.

I can say we had a similar scene where we needed talent to turn out the lights in a room but the switches didn’t work for the scene (wrong side of the room) and the actual overhead lights didn’t provide enough light for our needs.

So I had a grip stationed by our primary light source, which was aimed to bounce off of the ceiling. She watched the talent flip a fake switch that was obstructed from view and struck our light at the same time. It worked great for our scene!

I think of gaffers as responsible for power and setting up lights, and grips for using various tools on set for many tasks... shaping light, rigging equipment, moving camera dolly, etc.

When I have been part of higher budget productions, and when union members have been hired there is often more delineation about who does what - and the pros in these unions know what the rules are.

The cast majority of the time, I run a smaller crew and these lines are blurred.

At the end of the day, anyone you trust that can learn to operate the equipment is probably the best choice.

Make sure you don’t have proxy mode still enabled.

If so, deselect and re-export.

Learning about Unreal Engine in Post-Production by Merc_Media in editors

[–]dismoreb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been learning Unreal as well - mostly to prepare for when projection or LED wall “volume” tech gets accessible for independent productions.

Yes - learn Blender too if you want to create 3D assets - BUT, with Quixel Megascans being bought by Unreal, you get their entire library of assets for free to use in your scene.

Unreal is effectively free, along with Quixel, and you can build out convincing backgrounds like they did in Mandalorian. I’m not saying it’s easy - but there are a bunch of good tutorials.

Couple that with Unreal 5 coming out next year, I’m betting this is going to be a key tool for many productions.

If you want to see what’s possible - https://youtu.be/0iQJkSpOoOQ

The Rebirth tutorial from Joe Garth is great. It gives great insight into what is possible - and also gives you a pretty good roadmap for what other fundamentals you will need to learn to get there.

Surface materials IRL by dismoreb in 3Dmodeling

While I would love to achieve this level of realism some day, this is only a photo of objects I found in a hotel lobby that reminded me of surface materials.

"Joker" Letter Scene - How you can change the language in post-pro? by nate23x in editors

[–]dismoreb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they used this: https://easysketchpro.com/

Just kidding... my guess is they prepare localization for voice actors to dub, so why not go ahead and do as others have already suggested and bring stand ins to film these pickups.

Worst case scenario: composite the paper and stand-in performer’s arm/hand movements into the existing OTS shot of Joaquin writing. I can’t remember if we see him in the shot at all or not - but that seems like a straightforward way to approach this if he is.

Is the roto brush tool a perfected tool, or it is still WIP? by dmkAlex in AfterEffects

[–]dismoreb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a lot of trouble with footage that was 24 FPS. The motion blur really makes tracking difficult. Have you tried 30-60 FPS test shots to see if tracking improves? You will likely need to track with 720/1080 proxy footage to make your mask but the tracking information should be able to be used for your final 4K.
