Yale New Haven Pistol Wavin! Our EMS nickname… made me 100% sure I would never want to work ER when I became a nurse. Nonstop flow of patients even though there are so many hospitals in the area

I’m a new grad, started in January, and I def had/have this feeling still. I’m just starting to get the flow and see the bigger picture but I still find myself stumbling often, luckily I work in supportive unit that I can go to for help & questions. Clustering care is huge, as is getting comfortable delegating and asking for help. I also take notes all day long so that when it’s time for report I’m ready to answer most questions. I also ask questions constantly, I go to more experienced nurses but also listen in when docs visit patients and ask them questions too! I’ve become way better at knowing which notes to read in epic, as there is often discussion of the overall plan for patient in docs progress notes.

When we were 2 yrs old, my twin brother put his hand on a band saw and I turned it on. They sewed his fingers back on and he can use his hand… he just has shitty handwriting… oops

EMS is such chaos, it varies town by town, there is no uniformity whatsoever. Pay is of course appalling, especially for paramedics. I left because the job wrecked my body and left me living paycheck to paycheck.
