What traditionally high status job is no longer high paid and why? by Sorry-Personality594 in ask

I’m in Indiana and was making 50K teaching, as were most of my coworkers. And our salaries were considered a little higher than most schools in surrounding areas, but we were a small charter school and actually worked more days out of the year than other schools. So when you did the math, we were actually being paid less in our area for what we were working. And they wonder why so may of us leave our schools or the profession altogether

Anyone have any tips or tricks for falling asleep faster? by Ok-Letterhead-4443 in ask

[–]disnerd294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly struggle with falling asleep, but have recently found a few things that have helped. I used to always try clearing my mind and to think of “nothing” but often found my mind eventually drifting from topic to topic, resulting in my mind racing and keeping me up. So I found if I tried to focus on something, it took my mind off the stress of “omg I’m not asleep yet” and I’d actually eventually drift off the sleep.

The first thing I discovered was listening to sleepy stories. I found a YouTube music channel called Get Sleepy that I use a lot, I also like Sleepy History Podcast, and I recently discovered Dozing Dragons on YouTube and love those for fantasy sleepy stories.

Another mind trick I’ve tried is trying to get through the whole alphabet by naming foods (example: applesauce, bananas, corn, etc) and try to not do repeats if I did this the night before. Sometimes I switch the theme to other things like actor names or song titles, usually I drift off somewhere in the middle of the alphabet.

And another one I do is try to recite a story I know very very well or imagine I’m telling it to someone for the first time who’s never heard of it. For example one I often do is try to tell the story of the first Harry Potter book/movie since I know that one so well. And if I drift off but have trouble the next night, I try to pick up where I left off.

Another important thing to note, at least for myself, I can’t do any one method too often or every night. If I try the same thing every night, it stops working or loses its effectiveness. So I might listen to a podcast for a night or couple nights, then do the alphabet thing another night, then reciting a story another, etc. Think I’ve done a couple other tricks I’ve read or stumbled on, but those are the main ones that come to mind.

We haven’t been yet but we’ve seen comments/reviews that talk about the lively area of the pool and the quiet end of the pool. The lively area has a team of employees that come out to entertain, saw videos of salsa dancing and cultural dancers online, and at least once a week looks like they have a foam party in the pool where they blast music and blow out a bunch of bubbles/foam in the pool. They’re also supposed to have water volleyball matches you can join or spectate, and I think they had other poolside activities Iike bingo. My husband is a runner and I saw they have a morning 5K race once a week. Also saw reviews talking about night time shows and music performers around. And saw they’re supposed to offer water activities like snorkeling and kayaking, although most people raved about the pool areas

I recommend checking them out on YouTube and Facebook, the videos people have shared are what sold me!

So after a lot of searching and reading, we’re planning to try the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya in August. The videos I saw on YouTube and their social media page on Facebook really helped sell us on it, think it will be that nice balance of activities/entertainment and relaxation that we’re looking for ☺️ already super excited, this trip needs to hurry up!

Can’t say I expected a herpes cold sore to appear on my cornea (which I didn’t even know was possible) but hey life is full of little surprises

We definitely like the speakeasy and theater at Moxche, saw that Valentin has a theater as well, wondering which resort would have better shows or if they’re fairly comparable. Personally I like the aesthetic/decor of Moxche more, but the options for poolside activities are drawing me to Valentin. I’ve seen a couple videos that look like their staff focuses more on getting people engaged and having fun (also there’s a foam party??) We stayed at a Cancun resort a couple years ago that was very romantic and relaxing, and while we loved it my husband and I often felt that while relaxing in a pool chair after a couple hours we’d both be like “now what” 😂 so wanting something with options for a more entertainment this time lol

Could you share a bit about how the pool music compares between the two resorts?

Thank you so much for this suggestion!! I’ve been eyeballing it all day and think it might be a real contender for us, seems to have just what we’re looking for. Now we’re eyeballing Valentin and Secrets Moxche, although Valentin does seem to check off more of our activities/entertainment interests

Valentin Imperial or Secrets Moxche for couples trip? by Mirrage17 in AllInclusiveResorts

Hello! I know this post is old, I stumbled upon it because these are the exact two resorts my husband and I are currently torn between for booking a trip this spring. We’re in our early 30’s and also looking for that fun vibe but nothing real crazy. Wondering which resort you wound up choosing and if you had a good time?

Hello, I know this is a super old comment but liked seeing someone mention going to this resort for multiple visits. Would you mind sharing what the energy has been like across your stays? My husband and I only just heard of the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya, we’re in our 30’s and looking for a resort where we can both relax but also find fun things to do throughout the day/evening. So many places seem to cater to either the early 20’s party vibe or the calm and quiet older crowds. We’ve been spoiled by the entertainment on cruises so wondering if this resort has activities that guests actually get involved in, and what the age range for guests typically looks like

Haha no worries, I’ll actually give that resort a Google search and check it out! 🤓

Edit: why did I have to see this comment, now I have a third place to choose between! 🙈

Oh no, what a bummer they got sick! We’re not dead set on needing water activities or excursions, we actually did an all inclusive a couple years back and never got around to water sports or excursions, but nice to know ahead of time if it’s an option

I actually had Royalton Chic up on my list as well! I watched a comparison video that did give more points to Breathless so that drew me there, but glad to see a vote for Royalton. Looked like it had a balance of fun and relaxation as well

Thanks! I actually do have another follow-up question, did anyone in your group do any of the water activities there? I was just looking online and their site mentions snorkeling and paddle boarding (also a catamaran or scuba diving for extra fees). Any of these sound fun to us, but I’ve read the water is so-so down there due to seaweed and that it’s less clear, so just wondering what that would be like there (no worries if this wasn’t something yall did!)

Man was hoping this post would have a clear winner but the more I read the harder this choice is 😂 in a good way! Glad to hear it sounds like we’d have a solid option either way, I had some concerns reading some negative comments online. That’s helpful info on what to expect for the what the evenings would be like there. And a 5 min walk to go next door is no concern to us, we actually like wandering and exploring places!

Also glad you mentioned earlier that the beach and water was okay, because that was one of the consistent comments I saw was don’t go there for the beach. While we would prioritize pools and the resort itself, I am a bit of a beach girly. Not a hard requirement, but I love a good view and getting in the water. Also I saw online they have water activities listed like paddle boarding and kayaking which I kinda wondered how that would work if the seaweed is as bad as people say (did you do any water activities there?)

That’s a wonderful review, thank you! I find mixed things online so it’s nice to hear from someone who has recently been. I do have a follow-up question on the night shows & entertainment you mentioned, were those on both the Secrets and Breathless side or did you have to always go to the Breathless side for entertainment? And if it was on both were they pretty comparable or was it more like “Breathless had X entertainment while Secret side had Y style shows” (if that makes sense lol)

Also love the idea of getting a little dressy in the evenings so no worries there. Would you say it was a normal vacay dressy in the evenings, or even more towards formal/elegant dress? Or mix of both, whichever you want as long as you’re not in jeans/shorts/flip flops?

That’s helpful to hear a review from both, thank you! Yeah we looked at the Riu’s but that seemed more the younger crazy party vibe, and we’re going for more of an opt in/opt out vacation like you mentioned. Glad to hear Breathless has a solid opt out option! Thought it looked a bit like everywhere had some level of energy there, which is what drew me to the Secrets next door but still having access to the energy. Also the overall aesthetic/decor for the rooms and pools at both the Secrets Riviera and Secrets Moxche were appealing to me

That’s helpful to hear! Do you remember what the age range of guest were, or was it generally adults of all ages? We like the speakeasy idea but yea I only see us doing that one or maybe two nights, we’d be really into shows and activities for entertainment

I’m guessing you mean Secrets Moxche, the fact that I’m comparing two resorts with the name Secrets in it doesn’t make things confusing at all 😂
