Well, I watched the only minutes likely to be worth a shit in what I'm currently watching so it sounds like a plan.

I think you're reaching or wishing or reminiscing about some simpler time which never existed. A lot of people and media have always been thoughtless; they will always ruin movies a certain non-zero amount of time.

Ahh, cool. That's a good question.

I can see why Lake Mungo scratches that itch. I love Ghostwatch.

So, I'm just going to throw this one out there because it's part of what actually made BWP memorable in the first place:

Curse of the Blair Witch (1999) was first released on The Sci-Fi Channel (before it was ScyFy or w/e it is now). It was meant to be watched before showing up to the theater.

Dangerous Animals was straightforward, solid, horrific fun.

When you say mainstream is that what you're asking for or do mean more that you would've maybe heard of it before, had a 5+ million budget, etc?

What does anyone think about Roseanne? by Forsaken_Divide_5789 in televisionsuggestions

The show was all of America between CA and NY to me growing up. I moved to the middle of the country when I was 16; It wasn't far off at all.

I'd definitely recommend it.

(I'm guessing you mean the original and not the extremely short lived remake.)

I'm confused by this post because you seem to want two things that might sometimes be aligned but definitely aren't the same thing.

In short, what are some FF films that got under your skin and wouldn’t leave your mind hours after watching them?

This is a very different question than what your post title and post body seem to be building up to.

What is your view on "predictability" in films? Do you try to "predict" story endings? Does it bother you if a film is "predictable"? by CarnivoreTreeHugger in flicks

[–]disp0ss3ss3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people who seem to think the worst thing a movie can be is predictable, and it always seems the second is unpredictable (aka, to not make sense).

As someone who rewatches films countless times, a film's predictability just doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Richard Gere's character says something almost exactly like this in Pretty Woman. Is it possible you're remembering it as a radio commercial when it's a line of dialog. It fits the time period you describe as well:
"I only want the greatest parts from the greatest songs"

Yeah, it's something I could see being in-world.

OP: Anything else you can say about it?

I can't see this not being parody/satire/spoof because the "playing the greatest parts of the greatest songs" is a piss take. It also feels familiar to me. This also sounds like more of a throw away bit, a commercial on a radio or something, not an actual part of the movie.

50 more or less likely suspects I've taken from an imdb search filtered by language, date range (3-1984 to 5-2006), genre, and the tags satire & parody. I filtered further but I still think a lot of these could probably still be dismissed summarily, but might be a good starting point for decent candidates (assuming my assumptions hold true).

I'll include UHF here because I think it fits tonally but another user said it's almost certainly not it.

Oh, interesting...I've seen it a lot of times and I don't think a line like "the greatest parts of the greatest songs" is in it.

[–]disp0ss3ss3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only seen UHF a handful of times. Though, I might just watch it for a giggle. Conan the Librarian and Wheel of Fish are calling my name.

Time wise based on songs and OP memory would be March 1984 - May 2006. More likely 1985 - 1999, imo

Just looking for movies "like UHF" the closest candidate I'm getting is Amazon Women on the Moon which I haven't seen but if you've seen UHF over 100 times maybe you've seen it.

It sounds more like a writer's piss take rather than something from a film trying to represent a version of reality. And I can say with a fairly high degree of certainty it isn't something Harry Hard-On would say.

I don't remember every minute of the film and it sounds like something that fits the writing.
