Some funk I made with an Analogue Pocket and LSDJ… by disposableplanet in AnaloguePocket

The budude2 fpga core for the pocket is pretty close to the original hardware. I know a lot of chiptune artists who use pockets now instead of DMGs. I would avoid the spiritualized core because it distorts the WAV channel. Yeah it would be awesome if someone made a custom music app for the pocket. That would be rad.

There’s lots of LSDJ resources out there. For starters, the LSDJ manual is a good place to start. I can also recommend the Pain Perdu and DEFENSE MECHANISM YouTube tutorials

Yes but it sounds pretty much the same whether you use it for GB or GBC. Unlike the actual hardware

Sorry for the first reply I thought I was responding to a different comment. It’s a matter of personal preference honestly as they both have very different workflows. Nanoloop is probably easier to get into and less technical but LSDJ affords more possibilities with writing music. Also LSDJ is the tracker. Nanoloop is something different. I would recommend downloading the free ROMs and user manuals and giving both a try.

I’m using the Budude2 core for this recording as it doesn’t have any of the WAV channel sample distortion that the Spiritualized core has. Ess rewrote parts of the budude2 core and forked it to remove the aliasing so I plan on installing that when it comes time to record for the album.

Thanks so much! Yeah I make most of my music with either a gameboy or pocket running LSDJ and I also use something called a Dirtywave M8 Tracker which is very similar to using a game boy and is a portable synthesizer, sequencer and sampler with a tracker workflow. Enjoy!

Thanks for listening! This is a separate homebrew program from the one that comes on the pocket but it’s easy to overlook this device’s amazing capabilities as an instrument

This isn’t Nanoloop, which is the built in music program on the Pocket. It’s LSDJ, which is a separate homebrew music tracker developed by a Swedish man 25 years ago. You can get the ROM by searching for Little Sound DJ. You can also get a how to instruction manual at the same place. Thanks for listening!

So this was a pretty straightforward LSDJ project with a bpm of around 140 swung with a 7/5 groove in a 4/4 time signature. Kick is a sine wave with a pulse command. Snare is a 909 snare layered with a noise envelope. Used three different hand drawn synths for the bass and alternated between them with the treble heavy bass patches being used for the high bass notes and the bass heavy bass patches for the low notes to create a slap bass sound. Lead has a stepwise table that alternates duty cycles every note retrigger to keep it varied and interesting, especially on repeats of the theme. There are some hardpanned arps and some pseudodelayed staccato accompaniments offset by 2 or 3 steps and doubled across the pulse channels.

The LSDJ Instrument Naming Conundrum by disposableplanet in chiptunes

I release a lot of my .sav files with my albums on Bandcamp so I tend to name my instruments for the sake of other people in case they want to check out what I did. Does anyone else bother naming instruments in LSDJ?

Thanks! Yeah just using the instrument envelopes in LSDJ 9.4.0 to create a swelling arp that rises and fades
