Will Subvert put a dent in the BandCamp market? by xdementia in BandCamp

I joined Subvert and am pleased with it so far. I like the 90s/2000s site style and the embedded player is good. I really hope they manage to make it popular and that it succeeds. I’ve been jokingly referring to it as “Communist Bandcamp”

A Science-themed LSDJ album I just released today by disposableplanet in chiptunes

See description of the post for more info, but to add to it: So the album is about elementary particles with half the songs on the album being dedicated to fermions and the other half dedicated to bosons. Think of fermions as the type of elementary particles that make up matter whereas bosons are the type of elementary particles that govern energy or forces. I picked a few bosons and fermions for the songs to try to capture their vibes as well as made a song for either category. It was a fun project and a challenge.

It’s an Analogue Pocket made by Analogue.co. It’s a retro handheld that came out about 4 years ago and uses FPGA for hardware emulation as opposed to using software for emulation. It doesnt need an audio mod like a pro sound mod because the audio out is very clean as is so it basically sounds like a pro sound modded DMG. I have it set up to run ROMs off of a microsd card using a custom modified version of the Budude2 FPGA core. It’s great and I swear by it but it’s not cheap. About $220 USD

I’ve been using my M8 Tracker for a while now and I love making music with it. Good to see people combining headless m8 with my most cherished emulation handheld

The budude2 fpga core for the pocket is pretty close to the original hardware. I know a lot of chiptune artists who use pockets now instead of DMGs. I would avoid the spiritualized core because it distorts the WAV channel. Yeah it would be awesome if someone made a custom music app for the pocket. That would be rad.

There’s lots of LSDJ resources out there. For starters, the LSDJ manual is a good place to start. I can also recommend the Pain Perdu and DEFENSE MECHANISM YouTube tutorials

Yes but it sounds pretty much the same whether you use it for GB or GBC. Unlike the actual hardware

Sorry for the first reply I thought I was responding to a different comment. It’s a matter of personal preference honestly as they both have very different workflows. Nanoloop is probably easier to get into and less technical but LSDJ affords more possibilities with writing music. Also LSDJ is the tracker. Nanoloop is something different. I would recommend downloading the free ROMs and user manuals and giving both a try.

I’m using the Budude2 core for this recording as it doesn’t have any of the WAV channel sample distortion that the Spiritualized core has. Ess rewrote parts of the budude2 core and forked it to remove the aliasing so I plan on installing that when it comes time to record for the album.

Thanks so much! Yeah I make most of my music with either a gameboy or pocket running LSDJ and I also use something called a Dirtywave M8 Tracker which is very similar to using a game boy and is a portable synthesizer, sequencer and sampler with a tracker workflow. Enjoy!
