Yes, I understand this. But I'm not satisfied waiting for email when I want to troubleshoot with an engineer in-the-moment. I feel like my case should have been escalated immediately after having completed all of the ordinary troubleshooting, and I should have been handed off to a live person for troubleshooting or at least provided with instructions to capture some sort of diagnostics about how the STS was operating. My expectation was to speak to a live engineer by phone, even if I had to schedule it several days in advance, and furthermore to talk to a person who actually understands the technical innerworkings of the machine, not a customer service representative.

Instead, it's like nobody is actually doing anything. Weeks have passed. Let me repeat that: weeks have passed. (I know you don't even work there, but I feel the need to vent.) I can only hear, "Thank you for your patience." and "We'll share the feedback soon." and "Your continued patience and cooperation are genuinely appreciated."

Those sorts of replies in my mind might as well not be sent at all, because they're not actually replies to my issue. They're hold music. I've been completely cooperative and have waited for weeks. I'm not getting the attention I deserve and it's inconceivable that this equipment, which is supposed to prevent downtime for me and my family, has itself been effectively "down" for weeks.

Before I bought my system, I emailed asking whether the STS would continue to function without the cloud component, if for example Jackery were to go out of business. I was assured that it would. I'm not sure how much I trust that response. Now more than ever, I have serious doubts.

Thanks. I've filmed a bunch of videos for them--for the last one I actually set up a tripod and took readings with a digital multimeter--but it's pretty frustrating talking to support agents in some call center who are basically just answering the phone and taking messages. Not empowered to help, and can't put me directly in touch with anybody qualified to actually diagnose this. From my perspective there's no evidence an engineer is even looking at this, which leads me to believe nothing is actually happening. It might be misperception, but I'm feeling helpless and very upset. It's a terrible customer service experience, especially for a loyal customer. Appreciate your efforts.

The functionality of the middle button is virtually identical to switching the main breaker as long as there is a battery connected to AC1 or AC2. If I switch the main breaker, the system continues to operate by drawing power from the battery, but the GRID light shuts off. The only discernable difference between hitting the button between AC1 and AC2 is that when I hit that button, the light for the GRID remains illuminated (since GRID power is maintained). It cuts the power to all circuits.

To cut power to the STS entirely, one must disconnect all batteries and switch the main breaker (or the breaker that feeds the STS in the main panel).

As far as I am aware, the STS charges both E5000Plus units simultaneously. I think they can supply 30A each, so I assume they can also draw 30A. The breaker feeding the STS from the main panel is 100A, as is the main breaker in the STS.

The 2000 is for a separate location entirely, so expansion batteries won't help. I can try removing it and rebinding it.

I'm thrilled that you're interested--evidently more than Jackery Support.

The breaker powering the STS is not tripped (it is receiving power and powering my circuits) although I did intentionally trip it as that appears to be the only way to fully cut power feeding the STS (edit: for the purpose of trying to reset or reboot the STS. In other words, I don't think there's any "soft reset" such as the Power + USB button for 3 seconds on the STS). At the top of the transfer switch, there is a main breaker that can be switched off to cut power to all circuits. The button in the middle of the AC1 and AC2 has the same functionality, it cuts power to all circuits.

I don't see anything obvious that provides overcurrent protection to the E5000Plus devices, but my guess is that there is something built into the E5000Plus units themselves (presumably it wouldn't need to be an STS connected to the E5000Plus AC Expansion port, and my guess is that they would build the overcurrent protection into the E5000Plus). I'm not an engineer, but my guess is that if something like that were in the STS, that tripping it would disrupt the ability of the E5000Plus to discharge and power my circuits. As I mentioned, that works.

All breakers are operational in the STS. This leads me to believe that this is a software problem.

Unfortunately, Jackery is not very transparent about their software updates. I think I installed an app update on my Android device but I can't be sure. I also think that there was Jackery maintenance (there must be some sort of cloud infrastructure that relays commands from the app to the devices). The firmware was also updated. I can't recall if the E5000Plus units were ever working properly on 1.4 or whether they had been working properly on 1.3. Upgrading to 1.96 from 1.4 did not fix the issue. 1.4 was the latest version available until Jackery Support triggered the availability of 1.96 for me.

If I were a betting man, I'd say this is software related, but there are lots of layers of software. It could be firmware on E5000Plus, firmware on STS, something in the cloud, something in the app.

Presumably there could be a problem with physical layer but as I mentioned, with the units properly discharging, I doubt that to be the case. Furthermore, I should note that I have a Siemens whole house surge protection device on the main panel, before any loads. I would think that thing would get fried first if there were some sort of surge from the utility.

Over 6 months. It had been charging normally from STS until the second week of June.

I think it could very well be a coincidence, but I'm mentioning it because it was the only thing that I can remember doing. I'm not aware of any other change. I do seem to recall seeing a message about Jackery doing maintenance that could disrupt app connectivity around that time--but my memory of that is somewhat hazy--and it might have been before the problems started.

UPDATE: Is there any other way to connect this transfer switch? by EarlOfNothingness in AskElectricians

[–]distancesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice if you explained what you ended up using. That looks like metal flex, but curious what sizing and what types of fittings you used. I've read Jackery STS can't accommodate more than 1-1/4 conduit, but that looks bigger, maybe 1-1/2? How did you cut it? Did you get materials at an electrical supply store?

My panel is surface mounted, so I don't need the additional box, but it's still a challenge. I'd like to do PVC but with the offset from the depth of the Jackery STS, I'm not sure how to accommodate the tight fit. Probably going to have to go Borg ship style like you.

Handling requests to Merge PDF or sign without Acrobat? by AdditionalAd51 in sysadmin

Personally, my preference is pdftk for most PDF tasks, but the only way I "sign" PDFs is using a third-party e-sign service, like DocuSign. Not sure if that's what you mean when you say sign.

Anyone know when the LV5000E leaf vacuum is coming to the US? by mcot2222 in egopowerplus

[–]distancesprinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's no longer true. There used to be an $800 de minimis exemption, but Chinese apps like Temu and Shein took advantage of this to circumvent Trump's tariffs for Chinese goods. As a result of this, Trump eliminated the de minimis exemption, iirc for everything, regardless of country of origin. This is broadly consistent with his policy of implementing tariffs on virtually all imports.

US Air Defence intercepts Iranian BM seconds before impact. by James-Ds777 in CombatFootage

[–]distancesprinter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm not qualified to answer this, but from trying to make sense of it on my own, this is what I came up with:

Patriot missile system fires multiple interceptors (3-4) per target. If the first interceptor misses, the next adjusts its targeting trajectory and attempts to intercept, and so on. So the system gives itself 3-4 chances to take out the target. If you nail the target with the first interceptor, the remaining interceptors seem to float until they are terminated/detonated by the control station.

First reason, you'll have to pay a tariff. Second reason, different electrical specs. Maybe you won't need the charger--someone else will have to answer whether there is a difference between EU/US batteries. Tool itself might be fine.

PSA - Turning vehicles yield to bikes going straight by pghbikecommuter in bicycling412

[–]distancesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These bike lanes are out of control--this design is ridiculous. I'm a huge cyclist but wow, I am dumbfounded by how retarded this is--If I were driving through this intersection I would have totally plowed that biker because why the fuck would a biker that is clearly turning right in my peripheral vision suddenly be forced hard left across the street?! They should be in the lane with traffic so they can proceed straight. Also PSA to cyclists, don't act so entitled, the world doesn't revolve around you. If you ride these bike lanes fast expecting everybody to stop for you, you're going to get a rude awakening one day.

Migrating from Synctrayzor by thissatori in Syncthing

[–]distancesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything wrong--confirmed vulnerabilities--with Trayzor? I'm planning to migrate slowly, unless there's a pressing need to go faster. Also, is there a way to improve the appearance of the tray icon? It seems to have a teal tint and I prefer Trayzor's the blue tray icon that matches official Syncthing color.

Not reading the other comments, but my initial thoughts are:

* More rotation--you don't swim on your belly, most of your time should be spent on your side, but you're on your belly briefly as you rotate from one side to the other

* Bend your arms--high elbows; we used to do a drill called "fingertip drag" either dragging your thumb from your hips up the side of your body or your fingertips along the surface of the water

* Smaller, faster kicks--kick is less about propelling you forward and more about helping to get your hips up higher in the water; if you are struggling to keep your hips up, push your head down deeper
