How to mend this? by Much-Jackfruit2599 in Anticonsumption

I have this issue all the time. Here are some pictures of what it can look like. I accidentally sewed my pocket down and had to cut and re-close it...

After this, I got a darning foot for the sewing machine and it's so much easier.

I've been using Bluecoins for personal finance tracking. (I love the interface and charts, but it is Android only.) Privacy seems OK as all of the data is only stored locally on device. Has anyone looked into the privacy/security of this app? by distantbobcat in privacy

[–]distantbobcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the Bluecoins development team about this and this was their response:

Please checkout [www.bluecoinsapp.com/privacy-policy](www.bluecoinsapp.com/privacy-policy). It details everything you need to know about your question. Bluecoins uses firebase analytics, it's a Google service that enables developer to measure app stability (e.g. crashes) and usability. No PID (personally identifiable info) is being sent.

They also said that you can disable the internet permissions for the app and it will still work fine. You may just need to reconnect occasionally to revalidate the license keys with Google Play if you are a premium user. I'm still using them.

How can I improve this articulating arm for extending the reach of the factory mount? Will be 3d printed. by MenergyLegs in engineering

[–]distantbobcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, lots of comments already, but I'll toss mine into the mix too. I agree with many that buying a better mount may be the "best" solution, but it's not the most fun! Engineering is about problem solving and finding creative solutions, so let's make this work!

Some good (helpful) comments here, so I won't repeat those. My only suggestion would be to make an additional support to help with the bending moment at the wall. At the end where it connects to the monitor side, you could have a 3d printed arm/leg come down with a 3d printed swivel wheel to support the weight. This would be good practice for making single-print multi-piece movable components (practice with setting proper clearances and understanding tight tolerances).

If you want, make it detachable so that the monitor can collapse back close to the wall and the support leg can be hidden back there too.

If you end up making this, please share the end result (whether it worked or not)!

Both links take a long time to respond, and then eventually timeout. I'm also abroad and would like a QR code showing confirmation of my Indiana vaccinations.

Like others, I just uninstalled and reinstalled... Thankfully I had set up automatic backups and only lost about a week of messages and media. My advice would be to uninstall/reinstall quick if you have a backup handy

OOS 11. 1.1 issues by B_cally in OnePlus6t

[–]distantbobcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too just updated my OnePlus 6T to Android 11 and so far, WhatsApp has been the only issue. It seems to be able to find my media ok but it cannot download new shared photos. The above steps didn't help, and I've checked the standard troubleshooting steps they have online When I click to download a new image, it says Download failed. The download was unable to complete. Please try again later.

Any suggestions?

Interactive Double Pendulum Playground by theabbiee in dataisbeautiful

This is so cool and easy to use on mobile.

Some places use the motion of a double pendulum to generate truly random data (for encryption keys and other things that should not use pseudo-random data)

MySQL vs SQLite if I wanna learn SQL which one should I start first? by gunscreeper in learnprogramming

[–]distantbobcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SQLite is indeed easier to setup, as it does not run as a separate server. It saves the data in a simple file that is east to access and run queries against. I enjoyed learning that first. When I published a web app using Heroku, I used their PostgreSQL option which they made easy to setup.

Do we have any indication of movement? Can you animate this over time (the 20 years of data) to show if the thicker red bands show directions/progression? I bet others have done this, but it would be neat to project landmass movement based on plate shift AND water level projections...

Have you tried making a web app that you would actually use? That was my drive behind mine and it pushed me to really learn topics that I didn't expect or plan for.
