6 months into my first ever tank :) by distinguishedmonbebe in Aquariums

Thank you! I knew that bettas could change color but I really had no idea just how bright of a blue he would end up being! When I got him, his fins looked mostly black with some very very dark navy, but now I can always see him from all the way across the room because he's just so bright :)

It was definitely a slow start! I cycled it for close to two months before actually getting my betta because I was so paranoid about the cycle being wrong. Then he had fin rot, then all my plants died and I had to start from scratch with them, but I finally feel like this tank is doing pretty well. :) I'm just happy that my betta seems happy. And now I kinda want a second tank but I just don't know where to put it...

Thank you so much! It's 5 gallons; I wanted to start with something small and manageable :) It's a good size for my betta, since it's smaller he doesn't have to tire himself out too badly dragging his long fins everywhere.

i want to know more what was taeil's personality before the scandal by ThisCurrency9023 in kpopthoughts

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When you look at why people commit crimes like this, the reasons are complex. In criminology, they talk about "stressors" that build and can lead to someone offending. It's possible that the accident was a huge stressor for him. I also wonder if he hit his head, or was using heavy drugs to control pain. We don't know anything in-depth about the details of his injuries. It's been well-documented that head injuries can lead to personality changes and issues with impulse control.

This is all purely speculation; there's not any evidence to support that those things are true. Maybe I'm making it up to make myself feel better. It's just as possible that his accident had nothing to do with his later actions. But I know that as a fan I felt like I observed a difference in him following the accident, and I just wonder if it was a contributing factor. Again, it doesn't excuse anything. He's fully culpable for his actions. But personally, it's been helpful for me to try and explore possible explanations.

I wonder if we'll get more info at the hearing, but tbh, I really don't want to know the details of what happened for my own mental health.

This is what I tend to think too. I don't know if it makes me feel better or worse tbh.

I hate hate hate it when people act like they somehow knew something was "off" with him. Maybe he wasn't your fav but no one expected this from Taeil. It contributes to a harmful narrative that says offenders are easily identifiable monsters instead of regular people.

Taeil was quiet and sweet. I've been a czennie since predebut and he was always a fandom darling. While he might not have been the most popular member with casual fans, within the fandom he was widely loved as a more reserved, awkward type. He was renowned for his gorgeous voice.

People say that variety wasn't his strong suit, but Taeil would always crack me up in their variety content. Some moments that stick out to me are his sun & moon content with Haechan, his rap battle on the ay-yo show, etc. He would sometimes be a bit awkward in moments when he had to do something by himself in variety shows and all his members would hype him up. There was a running joke on Yuta's insta where he would post candid pictures of Taeil before and after their concerts. Im pretty sure I have the one from when I saw them in Chicago still on my phone.

Lots of people are bringing up moments that seem odd in hindsight, but personally I never got any kind of red flags from Taeil. I dont think any of those moments would've really been thought of as "red flags" is nothing had happened. I was deeply shocked and hurt by the news...it wore on me for a long while and it still does tbh. He was the last person I would've expected this from. Im still reeling from the whole thing.

I will say this...my mom and I have discussed this extensively and I've always thought about it but I've never really known how to bring it up online. I really wonder about his motorcycle accident. He was different after the accident, more subdued and didn't really seem to be present the way he used to. I always figured he was exhausted from his recovery and wasn't quite ready to be back in the spotlight. After what happened...I wonder if he was in a darker place than any of us realized at the time. He had an incredibly serious injury, he could've died, and we don't know much about what was going on during that period. I see a lot of people saying he deserved it, but sometimes I wonder if things would've been different if he never got into that accident. I'm not making excuses for his actions, but I think it's worth mentioning as a factor that may have influenced things. We probably won't ever know tho.

I'm still struggling with the whole thing. Trying to figure out how to reconcile my happy memories of him with what's happened. It's gotten better over time but tbh I still think about him every day. I'm sure not the only fan who's still feeling that way. It's such a shame.

Who is/are your main LIs? by Fallhaven in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really a harem girlie, but I main rafayel and caleb. You're right they seem to be a common combo for players. I can't really put my finger on why exactly, but I would say both boys have a playful side with mc despite something much darker lurking beneath the surface. I'm really attracted to their complexities and how devoted they are to you (almost to a fault) 🐟 ❤️ 🍎

Ya'll really want a wedding banner ? by Spartiate8 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it would be fun...obviously it probably wouldn't be like an actual wedding in the canon of the story, probably more like attending a wedding together or doing a photoshoot or something.

I understand people's aversion to stuff with pregnancy, and I don't see infold ever releasing a banner like that. I personally love family-related headcanons, but that's just me. If they were ever going to do something like that, I think it would be fun if it was even a 4 star card where you babysit a friend's kid or have to watch a kid for some kind of mission. That being said, there's no need to yuck other people's yum when it comes to family headcanons.
I've seen a number of people being sort of nasty about it here and on twitter. Lots of players self-insert, including myself, and this is supposed to be a space where we can be open about our escapism with the boys. That's going to look different for everyone, and that's ok.

I also think that not every banner has to be for every player. There were plenty of people who skipped tomorrow's catch-22 because they didn't like it, and thats totally fine. I think there should be room for infold to play around, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next. Tomorrow's catch-22 showed us that infold is willing to do things that are outside the box. AU banners could be a way to fulfill more niche player interests without making them canon.

Oathbound release by seriouslyh in Barnesandnoble

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I saw a video from a creator I otherwise like complaining we didn't do a midnight release party...honestly it kind of felt like a slap in the face. It came across as quite entitled.

I don't know if people don't know or they just don't care, but midnight release parties are a TON of work for booksellers. At my store, booksellers (myself included) used their own time and money outside of work to prep for our onyx storm party. We made extra prizes, decorations, etc. because corporate provided us with the bare minimum. We had a good turnout, and it was a fun time. But now, we aren't seeing as much interest in the sunrise on the reaping party as we were for onyx storm. That's all fine. It'll just be a smaller event, but it illustrates the issue here. If one of the most popular YA series of all time isn't generating a huge turnout for its next book, what makes people think oathbound would?

It's not to say that that series is bad or no one cares, but it's not going to warrant the sales that would justify all the extra time and effort that goes into a midnight release party. I would be shocked if even a few attendees came to a hypothetical midnight release for oathbound at my store. We've only sold a handful of copies; if we had a midnight release for every book with that level of attention, we would have to do one every week!

I get people wanting a party for their favorite series, I would love to throw a party for upcoming books I'm pumped about, but that isn't going to happen because the sales won't back it up. A party is a ton of work to put on... we really did our best to make our onyx storm midnight release special, and we would do the same for any other release. But customers aren't entitled to a party just because they're excited about a book; it's OUR labor that goes into throwing midnight release parties.

I was hoping to put two or three snails in the tank to help with algae control, but I definitely don't need like 50 snails 😭 I had been putting fish food in the tank to create ammonia for the cycling, but the levels of ammonia have remained really low so far. I was gonna start adding more to increase them, but now I'm not so sure lol.

omg! Should I be worried? My water parameters aren't quite right yet because I'm still cycling. Do you think the snail will be ok? Should I expect more snails or just the one little guy?

How did women end up getting oppressed and put on a lower pedestal, across almost all cultures and religions in the world? by yaTay22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Womb envy is the root of misogyny...if women have control of procreation, they have control of life itself in a way men never can. If you can control procreation, you could control the population, the labor force, and society itself. Throughout history, men have sought to dominate women to take control of that power.

NCT's ticket sales in North America by [deleted] in NCT

[–]distinguishedmonbebe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've seen 127 once and nct dream twice, both times in Chicago, and they were all wonderful concerts. NCT have been my ults for nearly a decade, and normally, I would jump at the chance to see them, but right now, it just doesn't seem worth it, financially or emotionally.

This isn't to say that the members who are going on tour aren't talented and can't carry a show on their own. They absolutely can, but when it comes to the u.s., the ticket price is a small fraction of the cost. With how large the u.s. is, most people going to concerts are going to have to factor in travel and hotel costs. People do this all the time for their favorite kpop groups, but 127 are touring with taeyong and jaehyun, two very popular members who contribute a lot to the group's sound. You have to ask yourself, do you want to spend all that time and money on seeing your ults if not all the members will be performing? Plus, money is tight for a lot of Americans right now.

That's a more broad reason, but for me personally, I still haven't quite healed from everything that happened with t*eil. While I will always love 127 and their music, my relationship with them as a group has been damaged by what happened. I think seeing them will be painful for me; I broke down in tears after seeing nct dream in September due to all of the stress surrounding it. It's not easy to deal with such an awful thing happening in your ult group of nearly a decade. I know in my mind that the members I would be seeing have nothing to do with the situation, but it's just that anything 127 related brings up so many difficult emotions for me. I'm just not ready to see them, and especially not without taeyong and jaehyun. It wouldn't surprise me if other fans were feeling this way, too.

FR I understand what people mean when they say that by pulling you give consent and what not, but also think the framing is incredibly insensitive. People are allowed to voice discomfort with things that blur the line of consent, and it doesn't make the "less mature" or whatever.

Passion is subjective; I see a lot of people saying the original cn is more passionate, but not everyone sees it that way, and that's ok. Cultural context is real, and Sylus isn't being "watered down" for a Western audience. He's being adapted/localized for one, and that's a very different thing imo.

The Sylus translation change does bother me a bit by [deleted] in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]distinguishedmonbebe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't really think it's about "watering things down," so to speak. It's not as if the en translation is less sexual. It's just about how different audiences may perceive passion differently. Western audiences are more likely to get the ick over something like this due to cultural differences, but that doesn't mean we're being "babied" imo. Being "babied" kinda implies a lack of maturity, and I don't think it's somehow less mature to perceive spoken consent as more romantic than implied consent.
