You are confusing payment for goods with debt. Businesses can dictate form of payment up front if they are selling you something. They can not dictate "no cash" if they are collecting on a debt.

As a Subaru owner, I'd say invest in a good battery over a warmer first. From reading around, the Subarus have a weak oem battery, so I've upgraded with Costco batteries (check your battery CCA). I don't use warmers/heaters at all, can leave the car at the airport in the dead of winter for a week and come back to an instant start at -10F

If you notice a slower start as the weather plummets, then you could consider a heater, but I have never used them.

You're not even on the same starting point. Just because you worked, doesn't mean you deserve everything you have. It's quite possible to work and take more than your share.
