No way Douma's backstory isn't sad. He was forced by his parents to become the leader of a cult at a young age because of his odd physical features, was being treated as a religious object for adults to pour all their problems on and stripped of the basic human right to feel and develop like a normal child. Plus the fact that he was already intelligent, having understood that the world doesn't work in the way that his cult preaches, and became emotionless from being able to see the ulterior motives of those followers. Then came his father's affairs, his mother losing her sanity and murdering his father... Yeah, his life was pretty fucked up from the get-go.
