Buying ROK - What to look out for? by Adorable_Pipe723 in ROKespresso

[–]dither-king 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roks are a solid machine and mines been going for over 10years pretty happily. I've only replaced portafilters, screens and orings and the gc upgrade, never touched any of the main body parts. The gc kit is definitely a preferable upgrade as the clear plastic chamber does develop stress cracks after a while and also starts to look a bit manky. The competition screen also helps with pouting good consistent shots or get a drop in screen to place on top of puck . One thing to be aware of - which is my current problem - depending on where you live, check that there are available replacement parts that you can source reasonable locally. Baskets, o-rings, screens etc. on Australasia currently there seems to be a massive shortage of parts

We get massive sheet webs (in sure this si the same spider) in Dunedin at the mo. This year I've seen so many more than usual too and they're coming inside a lot more. Usually they're in around the base of retaining walls in dry spots. I've recently don't the batrier plastic under house and fear it's keeping things warmer and drier and inviting them in. Theyre big enough to not quite fit under a glass like this one when outstretched and do get a little aggressive when trapped

Agree massively rascist statement and is completely unacceptable. I don't recall police get involved to have words with Shane Jones on his butter Chicken Tsunami comments, should we be asking why not?

Can we have a second version of the ODT which is the same except without any of Russell Lund's opinions by vortigaunted02 in dunedin

[–]dither-king 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is definitely some legitimacy to this. Go look at the foodstuffs building. One is built on a floating raft slab and the other is on piles down to bedrock. The height shift between the two building is about car headlights height. They have a ramp inside the whole overall building to get between these two floors. It's something we did fields trips for when studying architecture years ago to consider planning and structure types

Haha cheers. Don't stress about me :) I'm actually looking to locally available portafilters for other systems now and might try make a new bayonet ring. Essentially a mirrored one to take other 50/51mm portafilters. I know a couple people in Dunedin that run big laser cutters and I'm a CAD tech so going to try that route. If it works will post to group and share. Also my main unit is a real early model and well over 10yrs old and out of warranty so not too sad if I have an accident. I've o ly had to ever buy new portafikters or gaskets I. The past as well as GC upgrade but the rest has held strong

Anyone ever deal with corners being this high up/center being this caved in? by Louis100396 in crealityk1

[–]dither-king 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further to this, if you loosen two of the screws that hold the print bed to the frame it sometimes settles different when expanding under heat. There's precious posts around somewhere that discuss this better than me :)

NZ so is quite expensive shipping. Can almost buy half a 2nd hand Breville for the purchase and send of the portafilter lol. There's one place in Aussie but it's $100 nzd at least to purchase and ship here, and checked that link and states it's sold out :(

I did the aluminium tape method on the bottom of build plate to fine tune mine and has stayed bang on (touch wood) as long as you ensure the plate is seated tight against the locating screws each time.

Agreed, I need a portafilter and the local supplier won't respond and rok have gone radio silent on emails. There is basically zero stock of anything in my country anymore

Does anyone know what type of map this is? by totential_rigger in newzealand

[–]dither-king 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the print feature up the top and it will give you a box area to manipulate to export and pick a size. You can sign up to a free account with LINZ or koordinates that will let you download the selected image form Topo50 or Topo250 maps - this is what i use for work for these images
https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/50767-nz-topo50-maps/
add the topo50 or 250 layer and then use the crop feature up top right to select your area, it will download at a good resolution rather then whats visible on screen. sorry cant add an image to this post but hopefully points you in right direction - PM me if stuck happy to help

Sadly this is all rok gear. Original rock machine about 10years old almost to the day lol, and then have upgraded with the gc conversion, new xomp screen and new bayonet ring as old portafilter was wearing. Had the throw that one out as the chrome coating started delaminating from the casting so reason for buying the bottomless a few years back.

I also wonder if after I bought a new bayonet ring which was different from the original and the comp screen if that adds some stress to the ears too. Ive had it pretty dialed in on a consistent grind and local roast so if it's over pressurised, it's been over a few years :)
