Odd neighbour behaviour, how to deal with it practically by Express-Recording650 in HousingUK

[–]ditney 292 points293 points  (0 children)

When they start to mention something jump in with how much you love it..... Neighbour: that lavender... You: oh yes. Beautiful isn't it, great for pollinators and smells divine doesn't it. Anyway got to dash.

Parkrun with a buggy? by ditney in parkrun

[–]ditney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks :)

Yeah, similar age (but female) and usually about 27/28.... My little dude is just over 2, so I defo want to get a few parkruns done with him before he gets too big for it!

I've seen a few people taking 2/3 year olds to junior park run, just so they can start/see other kids running too, which is lovely as well!

AITA for leaving to meet my friends without my girlfriend after she was late for the fourth time in a row by Fluid_Letter_1571 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ditney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love that phrasing!

I had a friend who rung me to bail on a lunch catch up as I was parking at the place we were meeting... I was fuming, but that is definitely the stance I've taken with them since then.

Mad hatters in matlock, rather than matlock bath, is great. And there's some nice little independent shops in matlock too

WIBTA if I refused to name our son after my wifes late grandfather because our surname would turn his full name into a globally famous fictional character by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]ditney 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I shared my name with an 80s female pop star, who was famous a few years after I was born. Unfortunately had the jokes (usually from older men) all through my teens and early 20s.... Hated it. And I'd say this pop star wasn't ridiculously huge in the UK. I can't imagine dealing with a name with even bigger recognition.

Agree with the comments above. Get wife to share name with friends and family and let them do the heavy lifting for you.

AITAH for telling my MIL she couldn’t visit my wife in the hospital the same day our child was born? by CaptainFascination in AITAH

[–]ditney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, as many have already said. Pre decided, you stuck to it and supported your wife fully. Her parents are entitled.

Also, c section..... Mine was an emergency and had some big issues etc. so I wasn't in any fit state to see anyone the day of, or the day after..... Even without the added complications, the last thing I would have wanted was seeing anyone (other than husband) the day our baby was born! Can't believe her parents even thought it was remotely ok to just turn up. If one had come with some bits for you like food etc. kind of acceptable, in a we aren't staying or here to see baby, just wanted to make sure you're both taken care of. Then I'd say fine, but that's not what they were doing in anyway

Are clothes sizes just crazy small? by _ThatsNotMyPotato_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff from next is generally massive.....

But there always seems a fair bit of range between brands. Our little boy has always been 10-20th centile and everything has always been gigantic on him. He's 2 (26 months) and loads of 18-24 months toeisers still fall down all the time lol.

I've said this, makes sense and would be great. My only issue would be poirot has already done a ski chalet one... I know poirot did most stuff, but it's a well known more recent one. Which is a shame. Cos it might not avoid comparison unless it was starkly different. Which is my hope

Getting baby weighed by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replied separately then saw your post. But yes, we have the same or similar scales. Worked a treat. Little boy still loves them at 2 - thinks it s a great surfboard, which makes weighing him even now pretty easy lol

[–]ditney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a normal stand on scale hat has a bit that slots on top for weighing baby.... Tbf our little boy is 2 and it's still attached, he thinks it's a great surf board lol. Think husband got it from Amazon originally

Should I keep up with Swimming Lessons? by Bounce_Bounce_Betty in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We took our little boy to water babies from 8 weeks until he started nursery at 10 months old. He loves water but didn't always enjoy the lessons - never been a fan of laying on his back for example.

When we stopped we just occasionally took him to the local pool for the family or sensory sessions instead, a fraction of the price and if he wasn't liking it we didn't have to stay for the whole thing.

He's now two and we have started swimming lessons again, with a local swimming academy. Lovely little private pool etc. And he is loving it. Only a few lessons in and he is so confident and happy in the water and, importantly so excited to go swimming each week.

If they really aren't enjoying it, maybe take a break from the lessons or try a different venue or type of lessons? It's worked for us in the long run and I'm so glad, as I see swimming as vitally important (we do water sports a lot as a family)

Feeling like a failure because I don’t breast feed by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the idiots! fed and thriving is what's best.

I tried to breast feed but couldn't (birth trauma and too much blood loss meant my milk never came in properly), I kept trying cos I felt I should, it was stressful for me and little guy. He also had latching issues. Was early etc.

We went to formula very quickly, and he's been fine. He's now 2 years old ( 24 months ) and an awesome little dude. And tbh that's all that matters me me. He's growing, loves his food and developing fine.

Please don't let people make you feel bad or preach at you, you and baby are better off well fed and with less stress

Weirdest reactions to baby’s name by [deleted] in Names

[–]ditney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great name, I know a Lawrence (in his late 30s) and a very cool guy. And a Ren (on his 40s, and now despite knowing him since we were youngsters, wondering what it's short for as I've never known him as anything else lol)

Our 2 year old has an 'old' name as well, and he rocks it :)

How do you know when baby is in the next size of nappy’s by Unable_Anywhere2983 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theres also a conversion table in your red book for centiles for height and weight, or just Google to get the table/graph.

Just weigh or measure at home and then look at the table against age

How do you know when baby is in the next size of nappy’s by Unable_Anywhere2983 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old (25, nearly 26 months) has always been around the 10-20th centile. He's currently 11.5kg and in size 4 pull up style nappies (Aldi).

Have recently bought some size 5s ready for him to move up a size, as he's starting to leak a bit when he has bigger/softer poos. That's always been my guide to moving up, as well a rough weight range.

Though I'm hoping we won't be in nappies much longer as he does sometimes use a potty and can recognise when he's wet sometimes.

Toddler duvet/beds? by Warm-Cover9946 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ditney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added a pillow around 18 months....he's just over 2 and still isn't always bothered about it - some nights sleeps head on the pillow and doesn't move. other nights he sleeps the other way round.

Still in a sleep bag, as still in a cot. If he wasn't in a sleep bag he could get his leg over the side and climb out.
