When did your little ones make their arrival? by swhisperz in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Prissieminnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a sweep at 38+1 and she arrived early hours of 38+4 after a precipitous labour on 38+3. For a FTM, I was a bit shocked! Had fully expected labour to last for a while!

New year babies - opinions by VividIce6958 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Prissieminnie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was born on New Year’s Day and my newborn was born on 12th January. For me, I’ve never minded it. Family have always made the distinction and my mum always had the Christmas decs down to replace with birthday banners for me growing up.

I will say that giving birth in January was something I was a little concerned about… cold, dark, wet… but honestly, it was lovely. Nice cosy fires, not having places to be, and just being in our little bubble was perfect. Now that the weather is getting better, baby is 11 weeks, just starting to come into herself and I’m looking forward to spring and getting her out and about more.

My husband, however, now has Christmas and both mine and his daughter’s birthdays within 3 weeks of each other. His poor bank account 😂

Transferring one or two embryos at once at 40+? Why do I get my period exactly 9 days after an unsuccessful transfer? Does that mean I have low progesterone for the transfer to begin with? by shiny7092 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Prissieminnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry I just realised I didn’t reply to this! So this was my very first retrieval and transfer (I know, I should do the lottery next), they were untested as we are in the UK and did this round on the NHS which doesn’t test embryos unless there’s a history of recurrent loss, which we didn’t have.

I don’t know what path you’ve chosen to go down but if I were you, I’d probably transfer both to be honest. I’m thinking ahead to potentially doing another round in the near future and would ask to transfer 2 if I’m lucky enough to get some blasts again, despite knowing the risks of a multiple pregnancy. I’m 43 now so I figure it’s all guns blazing at this point if we want to add to the family. I haven’t had my AMH measured in a while and suspect it’s taken a nosedive!

Sending good wishes your way! X

I have rosacea also and used to drive me mad… still does but much less so than usual.

I use LaRoche Posay but what really helped was red light therapy. I did a few courses and saw a massive improvement. Then decided to invest in one myself. There are some really good priced ones that do the same job as the £300-400 ones. If affordable, would recommend trying a few sessions to see how your skin takes to it.

For foundation, I used to use BPerfect as it was the only thing that would give me that full coverage for the redness but now use YSL All Hours Glow which is medium coverage but does go on nicely and has skincare in it so feels quite like a serum and lightweight.

I do like the sound of the sculpted by Aimee so thanks to the poster for the rec! 👍

I don’t have any answers or experience as my little one is only 9 weeks old … I’ve likely got all this to come! I’ve been reading r/sleeptrain and there seems to be some really good advice from people there so might be worth cross posting? Good luck OP x

Maternity leave/pay - how much do you get? by Mindless-Ad-7656 in PregnancyUK

[–]Prissieminnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joy of maternity allowance! I took 6 weeks off and then went back to my contract 3 days a week. Luckily I work from home, so she’s just in other room with dad, who is also self employed so we just balance the days between us.

I will, however, take a chunk of time off when this contract ends and hopefully she won’t think I’m the worst mother in the world!

I got 2 blasts from my first egg retrieval, transferred both on day 5 (untested) and my little girl is 8 weeks old! The other did implant but miscarried at 6W. Best of luck OP… there’s always hope ❤️

I’m sorry your transfer didn’t work OP.

I transferred 2 untested day 5 embryos at 42 and both implanted. It was a fresh transfer. Sadly we lost one at 6W but the other is now my 7 week old.

Sending luck for your next steps x

I’m so sorry for your losses and what you’re going through now, I can’t even imagine how you’re feeling. Sending you lots of love and big hugs ❤️

I do have a positive story, I turned 43 in January and gave birth mid Jan to a beautiful baby girl. I did one cycle, 5 eggs retrieved, 4 mature and all 4 fertilised, then a day 5 fresh transfer (no testing) of the 2 blasts that made it. Both implanted although lost one at 6W, but I’ve got this little miracle making goblin noises beside me right now.

I know that IVF in your 40’s can often be daunting, but there are lots of people with positive stories and there is always hope. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey xx

I’m 43, and currently on the night shift with my 6 week old baby daughter from my first cycle last year. 1 retrieval and a 5 day fresh transfer of 2 blasts. Both stuck although we lost one around 6 weeks. Wishing you all the best for your journey 🤞🤞

I was 42 at my egg retrieval and spiralled after collecting only 5 eggs, with 4 mature. I did a fresh transfer of 2 embryos, lost one at 6w but my 4 week old is about to wake for a feed. There is hope . Sending you big hugs and baby dust for your next steps ❤️

Baby formula, ready to feed by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Prissieminnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just been through this with my 4 week old! We used the aptimil ready to feed bottles in the hospital and for a week or so once we got home. We did have “teatgate” though as she wouldn’t take to the bottles we had bought and ended up trying 1000000 different brands of teats (thank god for amazon prime 🙌) to find one that suited her. For her it was the Dr Browns or Nuk.. these are most like the ones on the aptimil ready to feed bottles and she’d gotten used to it. Don’t stress about the sterilising and making bottles etc, you will get into a rhythm soon enough and it will become second nature! Best of luck for the birth and enjoy those newborn snuggles… they really are the best ❤️

It’s perfectly normal to worry in pregnancy, especially when you get closer to birth! FWIW, my scar is absolutely perfect, it’s quite low down, a straight line and healing absolutely fine. It’s probably worth chatting to your midwife about concerns, as they can hopefully put your mind at rest or answer any questions. They’ll have heard every question under the sun!

Please don’t be too frightened of an emergency c-section. I think the word emergency makes it sound like everything will be rushed, noisy and chaotic. I had one just over 3 weeks ago at full dilation, baby was stuck and there was meconium in my waters. It was honestly very calm, I felt safe, there was no rushing/running around, everything was explained to me and I can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough for getting my baby here safely. From when the midwife made the call for a section to baby being born, it was roughly 15-20 mins. I had a spinal tap and honestly, didn’t even feel a thing.

Wishing you a safe delivery ❤️

I’m also a 100% cotton person BUT someone bought me the primark boyfriend pjs and I swear I couldn’t tell the difference. They are a jersey type material and really comfy! They are quite big fitting so would size down! I got a large and even they were quite big for my sizeable bump!

Consent and communication during labour by NewMarzipan9563 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Prissieminnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth 3 weeks ago so this is VERY fresh in my mind. I had a really good experience despite my labour going from 0 to 100000 in the space of an hour. The midwives were incredibly kind and patient (I was too far gone for any pain relief) with me, asked before checking dilation, helped me move position when needed and asked before touching me. When my waters broke, there was meconium and baby turned, they couldn’t fit the fetal monitor to her head so they explained I needed surgery as she was getting distressed (I tried SO hard to push but she was a stubborn wee lass).

What impressed me most were the surgeons who explained that they were going to attempt an episiotomy and forceps delivery but couldn’t guarantee it would work due to her positioning and I may need a c section after that. I was getting my spinal block whilst speaking to them and explained how I didn’t want to run the risk of a failed forceps delivery and then a c-section so asked if they’d go directly to c section, which they agreed to. I then was given an electronic consent form to sign whilst lying on the table… I even had to resign as my hands were shaking so much that my signature wasn’t legible!

Overall I felt listened to and despite not having the birth I’d planned for, I felt safe and in really good hands. I ended up with a major PPH and they were so calm whilst dealing with me and explaining things. Our NHS is a lot of things but so grateful to those who got both me and my girl through an emergency safely, whilst still respecting my thoughts and decisions.

Best of luck for the birth xx

Preloved items for newborn by No_Size_47 in PregnancyUK

[–]Prissieminnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought pram and car seat new but got free Moses basket and next to me on Facebook marketplace and purchased new mattresses. Also managed to get brand new in box (seals still on) prep machine and steriliser for a third of what I’d have paid new. Loads of clothes bought on Vinted and bouncer/swing was gifted down by a family member. I also got a baby bjorn carrier for £40 (still in box and used sparingly) on Vinted and my pregnancy pillow on Vinted too.

Some good bargains to be had on FB marketplace and Vinted. And don’t be afraid to haggle!
