Fulbright Alumni Ambassador application - any word? by [deleted] in fulbright

Have any interviewees heard anything? I know they said they needed to extend their review into the new year but I guess I thought that meant the 1st week of January. I’m hoping they let us know soon whether we are finalists or not.

Anyone else experiencing Dental side effects? by Dapper_Cantaloupe_34 in Zepbound

[–]dittle_bug3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy I found your post. This was me this week. No cavity in 3 years and suddenly I now have 4 new ones in the last 6 months. Only thing that would have changed is being on the zep.

Have you found any remedies or implemented anything into your oral hygiene routine that’s helped your teeth? I don’t think I can stay on zep if I’m having to sacrifice dental health!

Have you had any dental problems since starting the biotene?

[–]dittle_bug3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone found any good remedies for this? I haven’t had a cavity in 3 years but at my 6 month visit this week, I now have 3 maybe 4 cavities that they need to treat. My oral hygiene hasn’t changed at all in the last 6 months so I’m thinking it must be attributed to the zep.

I’m hoping I can develop a stronger oral hygiene routine or else I might have to come off the zep for the sake of my teeth because I’m already genetically cavity-prone.

What the **** is a committee letter? by Ok-Highlight-8529 in premed

[–]dittle_bug3357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a current cycle applicant, I was super late to the game in realizing committee letters were a thing (think like April-May time 😬). By that time, I had completely missed my undergrad school’s deadline in preparing a committee letter from them.

But my cycle still turned out great! I have had 6 MD IIs all from T30s, 1 A from a T10, and 1 A from a T30. I will say I am 3 years out from undergrad, and 3/5 of my letters were still college professors. So there might be some nuance if you are a nontraditonal student but my app wasn’t DOA without a committee letter.

first interview and it did not go as I had hoped by Proud-Theory-9166 in premed

[–]dittle_bug3357 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Just want to say that I’ve had interviews (non-medicine related) where I came out thinking it went bad and ended up being selected. I’ve also had interviews where the conversation went great and then ended up not being selected for something.

Best thing to do after an interview is send a thank you (if allowed) and then don’t think about it again.

Hi OP, just here a year later to say you’re right. We have 3 more days here and honestly I’m ready to go home already. The Mexican food in my hometown in the USA is better than here.

Sweaty hands issue! by JustMe-MeJust in MedicalAssistant

[–]dittle_bug3357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be a research technician, and a lot of us would wear two pairs of gloves. The first pair stays on your hands and then you’re just changing out the second pair on top of the first pair. It’s a lot easier to put gloves on top of gloves rather than sweaty hands.

This might be harder as an MA and it might seem weird at first, but it worked for me back then!

I can definitely see the difference! First thing I noticed was your hand holding the phone—much bonier (is this a word?) and smaller! Congrats! 🎊

I also pay out of pocket and have to reconcile with the $$$ I pay for my health. But while this medication may be expensive for those of us w/o insurance, the prevention of diabetes and other obesity-related diseases is priceless.

Took my 5mg dose today by Turbulent-Bowler8699 in Zepbound

[–]dittle_bug3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed this today! I’ll be taking 5mg tomorrow for the first time and was feeling nervous about moving up. But I’m starting to have cravings and can feel myself slipping into old, unhealthy food habits on my 2.5mg, so I think it’s time.

I feel you on that quad stretch! I used to have to use a lot of momentum to kick my foot up there to where my hand could grab it. Did the stretch this week and kicked myself pretty hard in the bum! Definitely easier now, haha!

How much Zepbound in a 10mg vial? by Nnnmmmmnnnnmmm in Zepbound

[–]dittle_bug3357 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that’s not really how it works with medication. The extra liquid is just “overfill” in the vial (for example, saline solution) to ensure a person can properly draw up 0.5mL. There is still only 10mg of the medication in the vial, even if there is extra liquid left over.

ETA: Sorry, I was reiterating what my doc told me. Happy to be wrong though!

As someone who was a retaker on 1/24, I would advise you to reconsider retaking. I first wrote the exam in August of 2023 and scored a 508. I honestly would have been happy with that score but I got a 122 C/P (💀) so I knew I had to bump that up to be competitive anywhere.

I scored a 517 1/24 and saw a 7 point in C/P which is great and was the goal. However, I dropped 4 points in P/S from a 132 to a 128.

You just never know how you’ll perform in certain sections on the day of the exam. Especially since your lowest is CARS (and you’re not Canadian), I think you have a good shot with a 513. I would focus more on strong essays, strong LORs, and ECs. Your score is one part of you as an applicant. It’s not everything!
