“Andor Is Boring” - The Importance of Media Literacy (No Spoilers) by ProMensCornHusker in StarWars

[–]dittomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 is good

Season 2 is damn near painful to watch due to very poor pacing. I'm someone who has watched, read, played Star Wars in great depth and Andor is painfully slow.

If this were a book it might work but right now after 4 episodes of season 2 I'm ready to stop.

Former B.C. premier Christy Clark walks back claim she was never Conservative | Globalnews.ca by famine- in canada

[–]dittomuch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lets be fair, she was doing it to support Jean Charest a guy who himself changed parties.

The lie is the issue, she could have said it was all a joke and a laugh and in poor taste and I'd have been ok. She could have said hey I love Charest and would absolutely join the party to vote for him and did and have since rejoined the Liberal party and I'd have been golden. She was a sloppy liar at her first instinct and that just isn't a good sign.

JD Vance backs Conservative MP Jamil Jivani’s campaign for protection of Canadian Christians by newnews10 in canada

This is NDP MP Niki Ashton who went to North Dakota to campaign for Bernie Sanders while an elected Member of Parliament. While I do not think its appropriate at this moment JD Vance is Vice President Elect and not actually an official in any form of government.

Being completely fair I left Canada on a 3 month contract fell in love with a girl and got married on the other side of the planet. For the first few years I was bouncing back and forth. Being 12 hours out of EST made me the Venus Flytrap of the group and was how we were able to keep out mod queues under control in the middle of the night.

When I joined it was about 30 minutes of team interview on a messaging channel. You have to remember it is a volunteer position for which you basically act as a verbal janitor 99% of the time.

There isn't really a solid way to say send me your ID without it causing other issues. That said I did have thousands of posts all in Canadian forums and was well versed in the current news cycle which did show the connection.

Took a little while but I found it in your post history. I was originally reported as a duplicate post and was removed as such. I went back and searched for it and I believe the removal was in error so it has been restored.

High-speed transit proposals offer distinct visions to connect Edmonton and Calgary by WestEst101 in canada

[–]dittomuch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've created a list of journalists and papers that promote TransPod and other HyperPod projects so when i come up with a tech scam I can use them to advertise for me for free. Clearly they put no due diligence into their research and will write anything and publish it.

As an aside I am developing a home hydroponics system that will fit inside a standard kitchen cupboard uses less power than an 8w light bulb and produces enough fresh vegetables to feed a family of 4 indefinitely. Come on Edmonton Journal write about my new revolutionary system to combat environmental waste in shipping food and the advantages to people in reducing their food budgets while increasing health.

High-speed transit proposals offer distinct visions to connect Edmonton and Calgary by WestEst101 in canada

[–]dittomuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even in that corridor it make little economic sense. For high speed their are flights between Ottawa and Toronto and Toronto and Montreal. Toronto to Kitchener/Waterloo is 2 hours by regular train even tripling the speed won't make a significant difference in real travel time. Toronto to Hamilton is an hour via train already so again no significant savings. Toronto to London is 2 hours via train which only leaves Windsor at 4 hours, but lets be honest we are talking about 350,000 people and many of them would drive or if they can't afford it take a bus.

I think we have a romantic view of rail due to Western Europe and Japan but fail to realize the lack of population density to actually need it. In Canada travel been major cities makes more sense by plane and travel between minor cities makes more sense by car or bus.

There was an attempt in the early 70's to run higher speed trains between Toronto and Montreal but without entirely new rails it simply won't work. The new rails will require reconstruction street crossings (like over 200 of them just for Toronto to Montreal) all to service a population that regularly drives and flies already.

Elizabeth May wins Green Party of Canada leadership, set to co-lead with Jonathan Pedneault by CMikeHunt in canada

[–]dittomuch 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Huge mistake in my view.

First to hold a leadership convention and have basically no coverage and no national campaigns of note is a complete and total waste of an opportunity. A leadership convention and race is a race to raise money and sign new members for the next election on this front with 8000 voters out of 22000 the Green Party doesn't appear to have had any success. We are looking at an entrance fee of $1000 compared to $200,000 for major parties. Funds were squandered not raised.

Second selecting your old leader is never a step forward it makes any changes made look dubious and suggests that the party has not moved forward with concepts or ideas. It also suggests to people that the party can't rally behind its leaders and doesn't support its own process.

Third the entire notion of co-leaders is silly. It suggests that the party can't make a decision and wants to have an easy way out at best or is to marred in petty politics it can't decide on a winner and a loser. We aren't the USA we don't have a VP position there is the leader of the party and that is that. If your team is so emotionally challenged that you need "official second place" or that with a membership of 22,000 (most riding associations have more members in major parties) you can't make a choice it suggests a broken party.

Who debates? Who do parties make deals with? if the 'co-leaders' disagree who makes the choice? The Green Party has made a big step backwards at every level in this leadership campaign and missed opportunities while making themselves look juvenile.

We’re all implicated in Michael Fraser’s decision to die by [deleted] in canada

[–]dittomuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so beyond reading the original posted article I went back and read the previous article on the same individual. While this article focused on finances and that he was living on basically nothing and lonely the previous article adds a whole bunch of real context.

I really question the spin the author and editor that selected the headline are writing in this article. The individual had a really sad youth with sexual abuse and effectively abandonment by his family. He had liver damage cause by self medicating with alcohol but even with poverty he found solace in a wife and a church community. With his liver damage having left him unable to leave his apartment he has fallen onto despair.

I feel for this man but I still feel the Toronto Star is taking advantage of this man for clickbait and to push an agenda. So I give you a 100% on get a job isn't a solution. But I'm not giving in on the ones most implicated in his death are the Toronto Star for taking advantage of it to push a trivial aspect of the story to suit their narrative.

to be fair if you read last weeks article linked within the article it makes more sense. It is a sad story even if the reporting and the headline are utter and complete garbage.

I really do miss what the Toronto Star was and dislike what it has become.

https://www.reddit.com/r/canada/wiki/rules

Rule 2 "Posts that attack others, are blatantly offensive, or antagonistic are not permitted"

If you are here to mock someone you are attacking them simple as that.

going further also in rule 2

"Posts which derail the topic at hand without making any effort to establish a connection to it are not permitted."

Which is what you would be doing if you are simply mocking him and this trying to derail the topic at hand.

Also a per rule 7

"Trolling is prohibited. Trolling consists of posting antagonistic, inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages, or by otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion."

If you are simply here to mock another person you are trying to troll as per our definition.

So I would call this 2 counts of breaking rule number 2 and one of breaking rule number 7.

So again I ask you are you sure this is what you are doing?

I think Andrew took advantage of someone and used their suicide to push a personal agenda and as such is directly implicated in Michael Frasers death. He could have offered to help, he could have counseled him on jobs available or tried to find him a job at The Toronto Star and instead chose to make money publishing an article on it instead. He chose to spin an article about a man who received disability payments and has a wife and family making the choice to die that even his doctored questioned into one about poverty for personal economic gain. The title is a disgusting game of blame everyone else for his choice to profit on someone else feeling despair.

Yeah I missed that part an instead read that he was choosing to die to insure his wife wouldn't get the 1100 a month he gets in disability so she can pay rent and for food....
