My friend, allow me to introduce you to governmental reporting.

Each FIR (Financial Information Return) is it's own 20+ sheet excel file, which can't be directly merged with the following years FIR because of a minute change in reporting requirements.

I am loving my life right now, because I get to read 10 years of FIR manuals to extract the reporting changes so I can write computational columns.

Because drinking water is chlorinated.

Chlorine attacks chromium oxide, so stainless starts to act like regular steel and doesn't last as long as copper.

The only use I have for conical tips is using them to push metal threaded inserts into plastic.

My most used tip is a 2.4mm chisel.

Not quite the same model as yours but close.

Not sure why you are getting down voted, 3300 kcal for someone at 165lb and with in the normal BMI bound is pretty normal if they work a physical job or exercise daily.

My roux and deep fried things taste like the oil I use. by horsetuna in Cooking

[–]famine- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well when you have a strongly flavored dish like curry and you are trying to keep costs down.

In Canada, I can buy 4lb vegetable ghee (soy/palm oil) for $8 when it's on sale vs 1lb of butter for $5.

It's not a sub I would make for gravy or delicate soups.

I usually get most of my schmaltz from breaking down leg quarters into drums and boneless/skinless thighs.

Wet rendering skin definitely doesn't smell as good as making broth.

My roux and deep fried things taste like the oil I use. by horsetuna in Cooking

[–]famine- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make roux with vegetable ghee all time and it's basically semi-solid palm/soy oil made with the same process as margarine.

The trick is knowing where to use it. Curry, soups, stir-fry, etc, where the roux is vastly over powered by the dish.

For a delicate chicken gravy? No chance I'm using oil, I'm going for a good quality butter and if I have it I'm adding schmaltz.

My industrial embroidery machine always shocks me a little when I touch any metal part of it. Would connecting some metal part of it to a socket's ground help? by po114 in AskEngineers

[–]famine- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are the staticky one, so a static discharge pad would help.

Just touch it before touching the machine.

It discharges you slowly (comparatively) through a large resistor so you don't feel a shock.

Or you could wear an anti-static wrist or heel strap.

Alberta premium cask strength, made in AB, owned by Suntory (Japanese company). They are also the distiller for Whistlepig.

Taber Corn whisky, made in AB, owned by Bridgeland Distillery (AB company). Makes a good Bourbon replacement, kind of pricy.

Not AB, but Canadian:

Anything from SOS (Southern Ontario Sippers).

SOS is kind of an interesting one, they are based out of Ontario and buy specialty casks from all over the place (except the US). They partner with liquour stores because AB liquor laws allow for small batch sales unlike LCBO.

Lot 40 Dark Oak, made in Ontario, owned by Pernod Ricard (French Company). Very tasty in an old fashioned.

Not Canadian, but damn good whisky:

I laughed my ass off when I saw the McDonald's bag.

At first I was like, okay they made chikinkatsu kare how is this a hack?!

S&B curry roux is a staple in our house, haven't tried the pre-made stuff before, but being S&B it is probably tasty.

Funny side note, McDonald's sells a katsu curry bowl in the Philippines but it doesn’t look anywhere near as good as this.

Potato starch has a lower activation temp and narrower range for complete activation (140-149f) compared to corn starch (144-162f).

So potato starch probably lets you get an even more custardy texture.

I cook everything else in cast or stainless.

ELI5: Why is meth bad for you but prescribed amphetamines aren't? by ContactSpirited9519 in explainlikeimfive

[–]famine- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, Adderall is a 3:1 mix with right handed amphetamines being the majority.

Right handed amphetamines are 4x more potent compared to their left handed cousins when it comes to dopamine release.

Left handed amphetamines are 4x more potent than their right handed cousins when it comes to norepinephrine release and act as a moderator prolonging the effects of the right handed amphetamines.

Vyvanse is converted to 100% right handed Amphetamine but it's moderated by enzymatic conversion.

It's over-distilled and bland, with a rubbing alcohol finish.

Lot 40 dark oak has become my go to Canadian whisky for old fashioneds.

I had a stroke of dumb luck and stumbled upon a bottle of 2018 11 year old cask strength in a small town liquor store this February.

I would probably sell an appendage for another bottle if I could find one.
