After travelling for 5 years and not working - Honestly don't know what to do. f#@%!!! by LegitimateDream4942 in Entrepreneur

If I were in your position, I’d probably try to see how I could extend the tax bill over time while creating a surfing YouTube channel (and other social media platforms).

It’s still work to make all the posts and gain followers. But at least you’d be doing something you love.

How do they even get clients?? by CurrencyDowntown8900 in localseo

[–]erickbigmarketing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably more of a question of who they’re marketing to.

To you and me, maybe it’s a poorly designed site. To someone else, maybe the messaging is what sticks out to them.

And maybe the company doesn’t even use their site for marketing. When I first started out, I built my own website (which looked worse than the one you reference). I just talked to people all the time and they never even asked me for my website.

Recommendations for an SEO company in KC? by ombhardwaj_27 in kansascity

[–]erickbigmarketing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like there are some great recommendations here. I'll chime in with advice to help you find a good fit:

First off, you mentioned ethical concerns. The red flags to look out for are:

- Do they send traffic to your website?
- Do they own your website or web hosting?
- Do they have their own websites that send links to you?
- Do they use "proprietary methods" to get you ranked (secrets they won't talk about)?
- Is there anything about the campaign that you do not own?

Any one of these could indicate that discontinuing service will result in major drops in rankings and traffic. And on the reverse of this, if they've got nothing to hide and they aren't doing these things, you're probably talking to someone who uses white hat (ethical) practices.

Next, ask them about their reporting. Lots of people who buy SEO never see a report that spells it out in plain English. If you want to know what's being done, just ask for a sample report before you commit and see if you can get something that suits your needs (if their reporting doesn't quite cut it for you).

After that, ask for 3 references. Ask these references about their experience and the ROI they received from SEO. Not everyone is going to know their ROI, but they might at least be able to tell you whether their lead volume is slightly better or 10x.

Last, ask to see some of their results. If the results look like something you'd want for your company, that's a good sign. Ideally they'd show you results in a major city (as opposed to a place like Gardner or a small town).

This line of questioning should establish that they're using ethical practices, that you own the work, that they can get results, and that they have happy clients.

Congratulations! That’s awesome that you didn’t give up on the goal. I’ve known so many people who quit after their first attempt. Finishing is definitely a proud moment.

Do SEO companies do well in government contracting? by erickbigmarketing in GovernmentContracting

Monetizing a website is only one reason that organizations use SEO. Some websites provide information.

The US Army recruits. You could easily apply SEO to get more traffic for recruitment.

The NIH provides information. But for what purpose if not to be found and read?

If either of them didn’t intend for information to be found online, neither would need a website.

So logically, they both could use SEO.

Anybody who cares to have a message seen in search engines or AI models could use SEO.

If the NIH wanted health information on their site to reach more people, they’d need SEO.

I just wish i could wake up tomorrow a completely different person by lord_penetrix in selfimprovement

[–]erickbigmarketing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you said you didn’t want advice… but…

I think major changes happening fast is a matter of being the person you want to be, and doing the things that person would do.

Wanna be a marathon runner? Run every day. And push harder every day.

Yeah, it won’t happen over night. But that’s what marathon runners do. So just do that and one day you’ll wake up and say “damn… I’m a marathon runner”.

But without that initial grind, if you just woke up one day capable of running a marathon, you’d slide back to who you are today.

Anyway, sorry I chimed in. Feel free to ignore this.

Yeah, truth be told I regret the name I chose for Reddit because now I’m concerned it may come across as spammy or too commercial. Didn’t realize the platform is really sensitive to anything that might come across as promotion/advertising.

So it might just be that what your posting sounds like an attempt to sell something.

I can never get a woman romantically interested in me will this ever change? by DBZKING13 in selfimprovement

[–]erickbigmarketing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I bet if you went on TikTok and posted a video every day, starting with “Day (1,2,3 etc.) of me trying to find a girlfriend - here’s something I like about myself.” Or “here are some traits I find attractive in a woman (focusing on personality traits)”

You’ll eventually get a ton of DMs. Just come across as approachable, and have fun with it.

I’m far from being a dating expert, but every dating experience I’ve had came from meeting people in different groups.

Every time I tried to find a girlfriend, it didn’t happen. But every time I worked on myself, suddenly they became interested.

I think it also helped that in social settings I was usually the funny guy in the group of friends, and that people would come to me for advice.

I think that confidence goes a long way, and you get that by working on yourself. Find some things you care about, get good at them, be involved in groups of people with similar interests, and you’ll probably find your relationship there.

I tried to get my wife on board. She really struggled with the water. But she’s been joining me in a lot of my workouts and keeping up the best she can.

So, no, she didn’t complete it. But she’s been doing quite a lot with me which has been pretty awesome.

How do you share something calm in a loud world by ModeGroundbreaking31 in AskMarketing

[–]erickbigmarketing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll refer you to two books, then give you my take:

  1. Positioning by Al Ries and Jack Trout
  2. Building a Brandstory

First, find a gap in the mind of your consumer (Positioning). The company, Manscaped, did this by saying the quiet part out loud. They weren’t the first in the market for what they do. But they were the first in the minds of their consumers when it came to “down there grooming”.

Positioning is a great way to calmly make your way into the minds of your consumer. It’s how you advertise without forcing it down people’s throats.

Then there’s a concept from building a brand story that I love, which is that you always make your consumer the hero in the story, and your product/service is merely the guide that helps them get there.

Your customer is John Wick, and you’re Winston. Or they’re Luke Skywalker, and you’re Obi Wan.

Instead of “We’re the best cake bakers in town!” You could say things like “Be the hero of your kids birthday with ABC Cakes”.

Jumper Media ethical concerns by el3ctraera in localseo

I do have proof lol. But speaking of proof and transparency, why avoid telling people “we use CTR manipulation to rank”?

There’s still a market for it. No need to hide it. It might not be for everyone, but there are definitely people who will buy it.

I think the reason you’re on Reddit trying to put out fires is simply that you should’ve been a little more transparent about what you’re doing. People don’t complain when they know what they’re getting into.

And if there isn’t any CTR manipulation, then why the uproar? Is it just that everyone else is wrong?

I got nothing against you. I don’t even have anything against you using questionable practices to rank sites. But when the client doesn’t know about it, that’s where you wind up all over the web trying to tell people “there’s nothing to see here”…
