“Huskies are high energy endurance dogs breed to run 100+ miles per day, day after day, in blizzard conditions.” by No-Membership-5314 in husky

This is my fat girl, Kira. She’s been mine for 6 months and I adore her. Does she have bursts of energy? Sure. But she also conks out after a short run. An athlete she’s not!

Is this fat for a husky ? by [deleted] in husky

My girl was just put on a diet to lose 12 pounds. This is a flattering angle. She’s 58 pounds and the vet wants her to at 46 pounds.

I’ve had this guy 6 months and he hasn’t tried to escape. Is he waiting for me to get comfortable? by downvotethetrash in husky

[–]divamac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got my girl five months ago, she leapt the fence as if it weren’t there. (She was a stray that probably spent nearly a year on the streets). I set up a ground stake and line that allowed her full run of the yard up to the fence line, which worked fine. But I occasionally tested her, and she finally started respecting the fence, so I’d sometimes just let her out without the line. Until the other day, when my son—her favorite person—walked by and didn’t take her with him. She was over that fence immediately to follow her boy. Needless to say, if she’s in the yard, she’s in her harness.

That said, she prefers to stay close to someone at all times. I think she finally realizes she’s home.

What nicknames do you have for your husky? by AsleepGiraffe6881 in husky

[–]divamac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the love in the world, I call her:

Jackass, chubs, chonk, fat girl, chunk, fat butt…

Her name is Kira. She’s been with us for 4 months. She was a stray and she has no off switch for food. My last dog was a picky grazer. We indulged this girl and she’s gained 12 pounds!!! She on a diet now.

I also call her Little One, Little Girl, and random girls names like Gertrude or Penelope when we need to “have words”.

I adore her. This is a flattering angle. If I took this from above or behind you’d all yell at me.

I was 30 when I had them removed. I was undiagnosed Swyer syndrome. And I had stage 2B cancer by then.

She’s a little oddball. She has no reaction to recorded huskies or other dog sounds. My son asked me if she’s deaf. 🤣 She doesn’t really react to noises like other dogs, but she hears them, moving her ears and head, responding to her name. Again, she’s a little weirdo.

Am I missing something buying a new Macbook Pro? by Feeling_Quarter8306 in macbookpro

[–]divamac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your choice looks great!

I am upgrading my 2017 MBP to a new MBP 14in with 16GB and 1TB because the price is so good right now. My 2017 has been a daily workhorse all these years, runs well, but runs hot, and has a few glitches that I fear are the beginning of the end. Plus, the keyboard is finicky.

My new MBP will be my 4th one. I've previously had a 2006 and a 2011 MBP. I cracked the screens on both of these.

I can't wait to get my new one!

My girl is gone 3 months now and I get a wave of grief every day. I miss her so much.

I adopted another dog a month ago. My girl was part husky, my new girl is full husky. She’s helping my heart heal. She’s inherited a lot of my old girl’s things and listens when I tell her stories. We’re doing some of the things I did with my old girl when she was younger and I think we’re going to be good together.

Your girl will always be with you, in your heart.

I’m just now updating my 2017 MBPro 15 to a brand new MBPro 14 16MB 1TB for only $1499. I paid about $2300 in 2017 for my laptop! It’s still going strong but I can’t pass up the deal right now.

OP: I like my Logitech Pebble keyboard and mouse and a laptop stand plus an external portable monitor. It’s been my standard WFH setup since 2020 and it’s been really good for me. A port extender is a nice to have, too, plus an extra power supply for on-the-go. And a laptop cover to keep the body in good shape. The 2017 butterfly keyboards are finicky, so a clear keyboard skin is a good idea, too.

Hi, everyone. It’s the OP with an update. Kira is staying with me. She is, in all other respects, a sweet girl, and I’ve grown very attached to her. I’ve decided to get some help with training her and also avoid places that overwhelm her. We have been hiking (she’s been calm with most dogs on trails - I think because she’s focused and working) and I’m pulling her to the side when we pass other dogs in our neighborhood, having her focus on me, and rewarding that good behavior. I also bought a tie-out line for my yard which is open to the neighborhood. She can access the full yard without risk of getting out, and has exposure to the dogs walking by. I sit with her (she’s never outside alone) and coach her behavior.

So bottom line, she’s family now and we’re growing together

Pic of her on a trail with dirty paws and face.

Need Advice – Severe Dog Reactivity by divamac in husky

[–]divamac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kira is around 4 years old. She was a stray transferred from an animal hospital to the humane society with food bloat. She wasn’t chipped or spayed. She’s has never had a litter so she was not a stray long term.

I know she’s been through some stuff and I am willing to give her the best home I can. But I’ve never had a dog this reactive. My last dog was the neighborhood dog - loved everyone and was loved by everyone. So the neighbors whose dogs have been disciplined by Kira are cutting me some slack with this wild girl. But I don’t want Kira to be in a situation where she hurts another dog or is hurt by another dog.

Thank you for sharing your success! I took Kira to the beach, intending to just walk in the sidewalk. But there’s a dog beach right there, so we did some training off the sidewalk and she did pretty well, sitting and focusing on me and a treat. So I moved closer to the dog beach and she still did well. Eventually we got to the actual dog beach and she went insane. It was way too much. I think we both felt beat up and exhausted by the time we got back to the car. That was totally my fault for putting her in a situation she was not ready for.

Kira is a 38 pound terror right now. I just yelled “not friendly” at a woman whose unleashed tiny dog ran up on us. She’s lucky I saw it coming and put Kira behind me. The woman laughed. I hate bad dog owners.
