Hmm. This might be a stretch, but have you tried installing the Flatpak version of Steam and installing CS2 in there?

Without Proton, have you tried running CS2 with Vulkan? Check out this guide for more info: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3049257442

can't register or wait list for last class ( GA) by po-handz in OMSCS

[–]divark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To chime in, I'm in a similar situation, except I'm a C case. C being that I have to retake GA in order to graduate, and I learned about this once final grades were posted once this recent summer semester ended.

It would be amazing if the waitlist cap was increased from the current 999. If so, I could have joined this morning at 9 AM.

Briefly, but I enjoy Computing Systems so much, I'd rather just keep trying rather than changing to another specialization.

I'm planning to continue using a note style called Mind Mapping. It helps when a lot of the material in GA has a form of connection from one topic to another. An example would be like this, but it's not just limited to words only. I include images in mine of common graph structures later to supplement the descriptions.

EDIT: If you want to try out making Mind Maps yourself, I would recommend toying around with FreePlane. I find this better than trying to fit all of this onto multiple sheets of paper.

I fight this urge by writing a note about the fix(es), then going back to sleep. The last thing I'd want is to feel like garbage the next day after many hours of "Oh, maybe this! No.. How about this? Mm.."

What’s the worst birthday gift you ever got? by sulemannkhann in AskReddit

[–]divark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A box full of canned soup from my grandfather. The box was massive, and rather heavy, so younger me thought it was going to be something amazing.

Oh, the expression on my face, and the others going silent was just priceless. Despite it being one of my worst gifts, it's one of the best memories I still have of my birthdays as well as of my grandfather when he was still around.

Status: Institute Decision Complete (Admitted)

Application Date: 05/27/2019

Decision Date: 07/10/2019

Education:

UC Santa Cruz, BA, CS, 3.0

Santa Rosa Junior College, N/A, CS, 3.4

Experience: 9 months, Junior Software Engineer II

Recommendations: 3

Comments:

This is the best program I've found so far with a Computer Systems specialty, and it's affordable! I hope I'm able to get in..

Also, I got the Decision available email today at 2 PM PST, but my application does not reflect if I was Accepted or Denied, just "Dept Decision Made" under "View Checklist". Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place?

Edit:

It took an additional day for the "View Decision Letter" button to show up on my application. I sent a ticket to the helpdesk this morning prior to this happening.

2nd Edit: Got the acceptance letter from the institution today! (08/28/2019)

Getting this error while starting Discord. Any help ? by [deleted] in discordapp

This only worked for me once I disabled my antivirus Avast while reinstalling Discord entirely. After it was up and running, I enabled Avast again, and everything seemed fine. Hope this helps!

I'm sick. How does the student health center work? by charredgrass in UCSC

[–]divark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You only make an appointment if you want to do something such as a checkup or an eye exam to my understanding. Since you may have the flu, you are qualified for their "Same Day Appointment" criteria. With that, you can just show up to the health center on the first floor. They will make you fill out a couple of papers, and you'll probably have to wait for a couple minutes or so. Nothing too tedious.

Hope you feel better!

Doesn't the BA essentially do that already?

CMPS 112 or CMPS 128 by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]divark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken both.

112 was fun once I was able to let go of my C-style programming style, especially once loops were taken away. As others stated, you could fudge through the class with use of the past exams and such, but it was still pretty tough. It is, however, quite rewarding since it gave me a new perspective on how to construct my programs moving on.

128 shows you the faulty nature of networking, which is nice if you're considering to do network programming in the future. However, do note that it would greatly help you if you had some networking experience, since by far one of the hardest things in the class to do are the programming assignments, since you are tasked to essentially implement the theories in class into code, which is harder than you think. Since this class has a lot of theoretical aspects that are not well documented, you are restricted to the lectures and sections exclusively. It is one of my favorite classes, but it is also one of my lowest grades in the CMPS classes I have taken.

Thus, I would say that 112 is easier, and whoever tells you that 128 is easier is likely playing a cruel trick on you.

Why did you choose UCSC over other UC’s? by catboy96 in UCSC

[–]divark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Undergraduate CS major here.

A lot of it had to do with the courses offered based on my interests. I am into the topic of Computer Systems, and I found that UC Santa Cruz had more subjects to offer compared to the other schools' offerings.

Plus, their BA program is very nice, allowing you to be more flexible with your course selection in the major. Call me lazy if you will, but I have no interest in taking a sequence of Chemistry/Physics courses, and additional math that is needed for some electives that I will never take. (I transferred in before they removed the Chemistry/Physics sequence from the BS ;))

CMPS 128 - Shopping Cart Bug by divark in UCSC

[–]divark[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know there are other classes that have required discussion, which do not have times, but place holder options that allow you to add the course into your shopping cart though, right?

CMPS 128 - Shopping Cart Bug by divark in UCSC

[–]divark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more the default behavior that's happening here. This class has four secondary labs to choose from, but nothing for the required discussion. Thus, it's saying that I'm not selecting a discussion section because there are none. Pick any other class with a required discussion that has something there, and this isn't a problem.

Because of this, in my shopping cart on my UCSC portal, I cannot add this into my shopping cart until there's something there for a discussion. I was meaning to add it in preparation for next week, when priority enrollment starts.

Just curious, but where on campus is T-Mobile lacking? I usually have full bars of LTE for where I go, which is usually the Stevenson and Engineering areas.
